Why a president's faith may not matter

(CNN) - He called himself a "life-long Quaker and a church-going Christian," and at first there was no reason to doubt him.

He played piano in the church, taught Sunday school, and praised Jesus at revivals. His mother thought he was going to be a missionary. His friends said he would be a preacher.

The religion doesn't matter. Remember the stink made over John Kennedy being a Catholic? Well, we're not all converted are we? I am more worried about what will happen to the middle class under Romney than his religion. After all, like George Bush, Mitt is a mouthpiece for the way the Republicans rule. They are never for ordinary Americans, but they are very good at getting middle class people to vote against their own best interest.

Faith should not matter but integrity does, which Romney clearly lacks.

It is the Constitution that matters. Activist Presidents are the problem. Too many Activist Presidents and those that supported them have now run up a 16 Trillion Dollar Federal Debt. Richard Nixon went to China and The Soviet Union in a quest for world peace. Omana went on an Apology Tour. I will take Nixon every time. He didn't run up a 16 Trillion dollar federal debt. If the people want the debt to continue to go up, and Jobs to be scarce the Nanny State is there, in Spades. More people taking from the system and less paying into it. You can vote for your choice in November.

I think Obama only has Obama to blame for people thinking his religion is Muslim. In his attempt to point out in 2008 that he had experience in Foreign Policy and not Hillary Clinton he spoke of spending most of his childhood in Indonesia (Muslim), his stepfather Indonesian (Muslim) and his mother was an atheist which means he had no contact with Christianity but was exposed to Muslim. Than there is Obama's trip to Pakiston in 1981, US Citizens/Americans were prohibited, not able to enter Pakistan but Obama entered Pakistan, remained there 3 weeks. The only way Pakistan (Muslim) would have allowed an American with an American Passport to stay is if the individual claimed Muslim as his religion. Obama is at fault for people having believed he's Muslim. Later he claimed to be Christian but so much was out there that he talked about of Indonesia, having learned about the Sunni and Shia sects in Pakistan that he makes the case for Muslim religion as these Shia and Sunni will not be friendly to non-Muslims. Obama got us to believe he was Muslim.

In my view faith and religion are two different things and no one knows who has "faith" but God. Religion is a pledge to a certain religious sect, Catholic, Baptist, Muslim, or whatever, and those to me are considered a freedom of choice and no one has the right to question your faith in God just because you belong to a certain religious sect.

As far as the so-called Religious Right is concerned, the President's religion is not as important as his politics. These folks are conservative first and Christian second, as evidenced by their support of Reagan over Carter. I honestly think they would vote for a conservative atheist over a liberal Jesus. They routinely bend their religion to justify their personal and political interests and justify it all with the odd verse of scripture. Romney's religion was an issue in the primaries only because they were choosing among conservatives. They may or may not turn out on election day, but hell will freeze again before they vote for Obama. (Hell already froze once a couple years back when the Saints won the Super Bowl)

Funny. Almost weekly in the news there are stories about the (supposed), most devout among us, making headlines for various scams of every kind. And yet there are those among us that are relentless in their quest to make religion a focal point of elections. Seems the need for salvation is wasted on politicians, and needs to start where the church was razed.

I could care less about the president's religion and whether he goes to church doesn't go to church. Integrity, character and ethics, among other things is what is important.
Unfortunately a religion who thinks that their followers each get his own planet scares me because the bishop thinks that being president is his god given right. This from a man sit no integrate, ethics and a BIG lied to boot!

"If the earth hath He given to the children of men (Psalm 115: 16) and set before us Life and Death (Deuteronomy 30: 19)
"that thou mayest obey His voice" (v.20). I"It is a fearful thing to fall iinto the hands of a Living God, Who is a "consuming fiire (Hebrews 10: 31; 12: 29). "I command you this day; that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth"if you obey Him (Deut. 28: 1). Anyone who refuses to obey Him would be handed over by me to Satan's Kingdom.

"I will take Nixon every time. He didn't run up a 16 Trillion dollar federal debt."
Nixon was a dishonest, alcoholic who stumbled around the White House talking about nuking the Russians. He also didn't inherit the Bush economy – the reason for the large deficit spending. You numbers are of course wrong and attributed to Fox News. Your mention of "spades" is noted but not anything surprising. You are from Georgia – one of our "red' welfare states. By the way... "irregardless" isn't a word.

Even if was a Muslim erlier n life, he could have converted to Christianity later in life. When the holyspirit calls a person..they come. Maybe that's what happen later in his life. The holyspirit drawn him frm his Muslim beliefs to accept Christ in his life. People become Christians when the holyspirit shows them the light, which can happen at any point in a,persons life.

Religion does matter. The moral compass that separates right from wrong guides a man of integrity. (from the latin, integer, meaning whole) A man without convictions and principles fally prey easily to situational ethics. No man is above the law, and no man dare raise himself above GOD, though many have tried and their graves are here to this day. Though religious men may lie, and fail miserably, their moral compass sets them right back up again. I wholly reject your premise, that in a godless society we need a man after GOD's heart more than ever!

You continue to beat your own record for nonsense and bigotry. People who believe President Obama to be a Muslim are the same ignorant, racist hicks who believe he was born in Kenya. These same people use his middle name for a reason – because Hussein appears to be a Muslim name. The greater question is about those of you who think being a Muslim is something improper. I really, really dislike what has happened to conservatives since the days of Barry Goldwater.

I think that many Americans want their president to believe in a power greater than himself. Some may think that it would make the president humble which isn't really true. Look at the number of presidents (and other politicians) that have huge egos that aren't really warranted.

The only thing matters is 'Faith"/ Too mush emphasis is paced on religion. One can be religiously a liar, flipfopper, Morman or a selfish republican!

"Myviewis, Obama got US to believe he was Muslim". Ahhh no. Not US, only the ignorant. If Obama looked more like his mother would he have MADE you believe he was Muslim? Do you believe this same headline could have been written in 2007? So, is there anything in Romney's past that is MAKING you believe he is "BAD" and not like US or do we get to overlook a few things because his skin is more like... Obama's mother?
