Reid: Romney couldn't be confirmed as dog catcher

Washington (CNN) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid blasted Mitt Romney Thursday in personal and biting terms, so to speak, telling reporters the presumed Republican presidential nominee could not be confirmed as "dog catcher" by the Senate.

A day earlier, Reid said on the Senate floor that Romney "couldn't get approved" as a Cabinet officer, because "he won't show anybody his income tax returns."

"If he doesn't qualify to be a Cabinet officer, how could he qualify to be President?" Reid asked Wednesday.

Thursday, he took it a step further.

"He not only couldn't be confirmed as a cabinet secretary, he couldn't be confirmed as dog catcher. As a dog catcher, you'd at least want to get a look at his tax returns," said Reid with a look of disgust on his face.

The Democratic leader didn't leave it there. He also attacked Romney for a Boston Globe report Thursday that Romney left Bain Capital 3 years after he said he did. The Romney campaign disputes the report, and backs them up, saying they don't see evidence Romney stayed at Bain longer than he said he did.

That didn't stop Reid.

"He said he left Bain to go to the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and stop any association with Bain, and his SEC filings indicated that he was Chief Executive Officer, sole stock holder and ran the corporation for at least three more years," Reid said of Romney.

Reid wasn't the only congressional leader to dive more deeply into presidential politics Thursday.

Across the Capitol, less than an hour earlier, House Speaker John Boehner tore into President Obama over the issue of outsourcing.

"Americans are not only asking the question 'Where are the jobs?,' I think they have a right to know where the hell the Obama administration shipped their tax dollars overseas during a recession here at home. I think the President owes every American an explanation," said Boehner.

Republicans have been attacking the president this week by saying stimulus dollars ended up paying for jobs overseas.

But again, a fact check by the Washington Post showed there is little evidence companies that received federal money used it to pay workers overseas.

@Bill "Previously, Reid was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Nevada's 1st congressional district, and served in Nevada local and state government as city attorney of Henderson, a state legislator, the 25th Lieutenant Governor, and chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission."

Thats not enough real world jobs for you? Then what do you call a guy whose only "job" experience was running a firm that didn't produce any goods or services of use to anyone but businesses in trouble... who may have been put out of business by the fees for those dubious services?

Why wouldn't you ask the President for his college transcripts, his views on America, how he got scholarship as a foreign national? I think compare to accounting frauds, anti-American views are worth looking into & serious.

John Boehner asks where are the jobs – how about asking Boehner that? The house has had one and a half years and they have yet to put forth any substantial legislation to create jobs. You won the house, now use it for something other than 33 fruitless motions to repeal healthcare! It's pathetic.

The GOP always says that the government doesn't create jobs, so why ask Obama where the jobs are? According to the Repugnant-licans, the 1% (AKA the wealthy) are the "job creators". They've had their Bush-era tax cuts in hand for a decade, and are sitting on huge piles of cash. Where are the jobs, job creators?

Dog catchers should be insulted. Romney is a perennial Republican candidate who can't even win a Fox News poll against Obama. At least dog catchers do useful work.

If the president has to show proof of his birth, then its fair game for Romney to disclose tax returns. This is the game the republicans have started and now its being thrown back in their face. Mr Boehner, you have had your turn in congress but what has congress done. Why is the rating for congress 9% which is abysmal. Please quit your job instead of lying that you guys in congress are doing something.

Why is it that Dana Bash always reports on this specific kind of story? Always something that belongs in a tabloid, never something that belongs in the actual news.

    What a CROOK?
Even though he was the CEO of the Bain Capital, Romney tried his best to fool himself and others.Romney eventually negotiated a retirement agreement with Bain Capital in 2002 to release himself from the CEO position. But crookedly the agreement was made retroactive to February 1999.
"The Boston Globe reported Thursday that a Massachusetts financial disclosure form Romney filed in 2003 stated he still owned 100 percent of Bain Capital in 2002. Romney was elected to one term as Massachusetts governor in 2002". I think he should be tried and punished for his misconduct. After knowing the facts, who will vote for Romney? But 1/3rd of voters in America have no time to read or listen any news but blindly follow their Church Leaders and VOTE.

  15. Just the FACTS please......

REALLY? This is all he's got? How low can the campaign blows go? With Reid, Pelosi, Biden and the gang we're about to find out! What's next? He hates old people and Disneyland? I guess these kind of stories appeal to the mostly uneducated who appreciate a sound bite no matter how intellectually dishonest it may be.

In computer terms the Left is attempting the political equivilent of a Denial of Service Attack. Starting with that speculative and innuendo-based Vanity Fair article – what if...? – is it possible that...? – which the fidos then report as truth. Meanwhile "unbiased" folks provide unsolicited advice to Romney. Such as extolling the merits of picking Christie for VP. Most educated people see through it pretty well. But meanwhile it provides red-meat to to people who don't know anything about economics or law or anything except mob-type social justice.
