Hillary Clinton: Romney ads featuring her a 'waste of money'

(CNN) – She's been featured in two negative television ads from Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, but Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Monday the spots would have little effect on voters who already know the story of the 2008 Democratic primaries.

Speaking in Jerusalem at the tail end of a two week diplomatic trip, Clinton said in an interview with CNN Foreign Affairs Reporter Elise Labott the spots were a "waste of money."

"I am out of politics, and I haven't seen any of the ads that you're talking about," Clinton said. "But I have to say it's a waste of money. Everybody knows I ran against President Obama in 2008, that's hardly news. Everybody knows we ran a hard fought campaign and he won. And I have been honored to serve as his secretary of state."

Romney, engaged in a heated battle with Obama for the White House, has released two spots featuring Clinton from her 2008 Democratic primary battle with the then-Illinois senator. The first ad, released at the end of June, uses video of Clinton campaigning against candidate Obama in Cincinnati ahead of the 2008 Ohio primary.

Clinton accused Obama of "blatantly false" attacks against her in campaign mailers, which Romney used to highlight a fact check by the Washington Post calling one of Obama's current ads "misleading, unfair and untrue."

A second Romney spot, released last week, responds to one of Obama's latest slams that claims Romney's former private equity firm, Bain Capital, in part specialized in advising companies on 'outsourcing.'

The new ad recycles a quote from then-Sen. Hillary Clinton in 2008, when Clinton fired off on Obama over her opponent's latest round of blows.

"Shame on you, Barack Obama," Clinton says in the clip.

If the Obama team did roll out ads featuring comments by Gingrich , Santorum, Paul, Perry about Romney, then Romney and his team would say he was lieing, being nasty and divisive , unlike Romneys ads which are all truthful and positive (lol)

Willard, where are your tax returns from 1999-2003? We want to see them, and we will not forget! And, actually, how about long form birth certificate, too?

This thing is neck and neck! All Romney has to do is pull a few blacks, a few Clinton Democrats, and he'll win it! All this Bain b.s. is just a diversion from a bad ecionomy! If the economy improves between now and Nov. Obama will win, if it doesn't Romney wins!

In typical Rethug fashion, they find a Woman to exploit and make matters look like doom. Give it up Thurston, you will will NEVER measure up to our Secretary of State.

The problems in the country are unemployment, economy etc. NOT what Clinton said 4 years ago or what Obama did not do. We need Mitt's potential solutions to these problems. We are not seeing his plans for the future, not even who will be his running mate. Day in and day out, going on and on about what Obama did not do. This guy does NOT belong in WH, for sure.

Actually, by showing a consistent Obama trait of campaign sleaze, they may help explain some of the tactics Obama/ Biden 2012 has taken recently. When the going gets tough, the losers get more pathetic or something like that. Romney 2012 for someone with a plan and a capability for turning that into results that help the American 100%.

If he shows his tax return, he will lose the election. If not, he will be defeated..so..he is better not to release his income tax...at least after he loses election..he still can run the Bain safely. Romney is smart.. Esp, he is too smart to be the U.s President...

How desperate is this clown that he's using Hillary Clinton and Bob Schieffer in ads without their permission? and these folks are obviously not supporters of his. RMoney should save his money and our time and just concede now. his campaign is a whiny, sniveling joke.

Really Willard??? Complaining about Obama running misleading ads against HIllary is just plain dumb. If that's the best WIllard can come up with he's in trouble. However, he does have a lot of money to waste. Willard's supporters don't want to pay taxes but they could care less about throwing away millions for him to make dumb ads??? What is wrong with this country???

I never thought I'd say this but I like George Bush better than this disconnected, sneaky, untrusting, flip flopper. I don't know why he won't release his returns, but a good guess would be he doesn't want us to see how he sheltered his tax obligations with over seas accounts or how much money he maid sending jobs overseas. Of course the lock step right wing followers would probably think thats a good thing.

There is one way for Romney to stop the Obama attacks and really increase his chances of winning the White House and that is for him to release his records from 1999-2002. If he has nothing to hide, game is over for Obama. Obama still faces a tough election because of a poor economy which is a reflection of Bush policies, Bush wars, the Bank meltdown, the Housing Crisis, Europe and now the slowdown in Brazil, Russia, India and China, but people vote with their pocketbook and that may be enough reason to vote Obama out. The economy will eventually improve no matter who is in the White House.

Hillary Clinton is serving as Secretary of State in the Obama administration. Anything he or she said in the last campaign should remain there. The world has changed since 2008 and all of these comments that Mr. Romney is willing to use past statements from those opposed in to Obama in 2008 or critical of him during his presidency in his ads without their permission. Mr. Romney needs to change tactics. He is not taking the onus away to release his financial information.

Hillary Clinton has served with distinction and has stated on many occasions that she is not campaigning during this election. Instead, she is fulfilling her obligations at the State Department.

    It is a waste, Romney.

In case Mitt missed it or flip-flopped retroactively again, the mandate that Sec. of State Clinton was referring to in that segment ended up being adopted by President Obama as a means of personal responsibility in ACA.

You know, the same national mandate Romneycare originally promoted but tries to lie he ever said it now.
