Hillary Clinton: Romney ads featuring her a 'waste of money'

(CNN) – She's been featured in two negative television ads from Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, but Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Monday the spots would have little effect on voters who already know the story of the 2008 Democratic primaries.

Speaking in Jerusalem at the tail end of a two week diplomatic trip, Clinton said in an interview with CNN Foreign Affairs Reporter Elise Labott the spots were a "waste of money."

"I am out of politics, and I haven't seen any of the ads that you're talking about," Clinton said. "But I have to say it's a waste of money. Everybody knows I ran against President Obama in 2008, that's hardly news. Everybody knows we ran a hard fought campaign and he won. And I have been honored to serve as his secretary of state."

Romney, engaged in a heated battle with Obama for the White House, has released two spots featuring Clinton from her 2008 Democratic primary battle with the then-Illinois senator. The first ad, released at the end of June, uses video of Clinton campaigning against candidate Obama in Cincinnati ahead of the 2008 Ohio primary.

Clinton accused Obama of "blatantly false" attacks against her in campaign mailers, which Romney used to highlight a fact check by the Washington Post calling one of Obama's current ads "misleading, unfair and untrue."

A second Romney spot, released last week, responds to one of Obama's latest slams that claims Romney's former private equity firm, Bain Capital, in part specialized in advising companies on 'outsourcing.'

The new ad recycles a quote from then-Sen. Hillary Clinton in 2008, when Clinton fired off on Obama over her opponent's latest round of blows.

"Shame on you, Barack Obama," Clinton says in the clip.

Good for Secretary of State Clinton for speaking out against Mittens pathetic ads. Obama showed how smart he was by offering her the job. She's been a great Secretary of State. Mittens has no grasp of foreign policy or anything else, except for destroying jobs and sucking the lifeblood out of companies.

He's hiing the fact that he pays either too litle or nothing in taxes. He has his money in accounts abroad and he will be caught with all his lies. Anybody voting for this person is crazy. This is NOT the message we want to send to the world.

Romney has not been honest about anything. He, and his supporters, have told nothing but lies during this campaign.

The add the washington post calls untrue isnt. While it is exaggerated its not entirely false. That is one of the things obamas campaign does is take something true and exaggerate it. Always has probably always will, basically hes a politician. At least hes runnning on something other than romney is wrong just because i say so.

It seems Romney's ad is inappropriate. During a time of war, should Romney be pushing an old tape of a currently sitting Secretary of State accusing the now President of the United States of lying? Granted it might not be fair for Obama to be able to use similar situations in Romney's past against him (such as when Gingrich called him a liar during the primaries), but the fact is that Hillary is now Secretary of State and Obama is President. How do you think foreign leaders would look at this ad? Does that ad make the Secretary of State’s job more difficult? Can you say undercutting America in the eyes of its allies? Can you say "giving aid and comfort to the enemy"?

It's all blaa, blaa, blaa. Spend those hundreds of millions of dollars raised on both campaigns on something productive and you might earn my respect. Otherwise countless ads telling us how bad the other candidate is and telling us nothing of how you plan to make America better won't get me to vote for you. Two kids insulting each other on the playground doesn't impress.

You know all of you democrats talk about what Romney is hiding, how about fast and furious!!!, how about college transcripts????, Bain capital is out in the open. Let's look at obamas dark side. The media will not go there I wonder why?.... Enough said. Obama could not beat himself out of a wet paper sack!!

Hillary Clinton is front and center in that historic picture of the War Room, when Osama bin Laden was brought to justice.

She and Barack Obama are 100% on the same wavelength now, and Romney is barking up the wrong tree.

This latest misstep by the Romney camp shows that they are really grasping at straws in trying to deflect all of the criticism of his failure to release his tax returns, Bain, etc. Sad.

Did you ever see the clip of the 2008 canidates going up the stairs to the stage and they were laughing and joking with each other. Then, when the debate started they were right at each others throats. It's all for the cameras no matter who it is. Behind the scenes it's just fun and games.

This guy will say and do anything. I thought that wives of presidential nominees were off limits. John Kerry ran for president awhile back, not his wife. Hilliary Clinton cannot campaign for the president, so they go after her, knowing she cannot fight back. Way to go. Once a bully always a bully. This guy is so dirty, that he will say and do anything to bring everyone down to his level. Way to go!

What is Mitt Robmoney's economic plan? He has none whatsoever. And he's such a whimp that he would bring up stuff not relivent to the state of our economy and deficit. And to show how low, deceitful and hypocritical Mr. Robmoney is, since he cannot attack John Kerry on not releasing more than two years of taxes because Kerry released 23 years of tax returns in 2004, Mitt Robmoney has decided to go after Kerry's wife! Mitt Robmoney, you're short on character and integrity.

Romney is accusing the Obama campaign of running nagative ads. What a joke. His negative camapaign against his primary rivalries, especially Newt Gingrich, was absolutely brutal. He can dish it out but he can't take it. What did he expect? Did he think the Democrats would sit back and let him do it to the President and not fight back? He's in the big leagues now. Everyone knows that the Clintons are strong Obama supporters now so this ad is mute.

More proof of the desperation in the Rmoney camp. This so reminds me of the Road of Death, when Iraqi forces left Kuwait and were slaughtered on the road out, only difference is Obama is not letting up.

Please - like none of Ronmey's GOP opponents ever complained about him, his tactics or his disassociation with the truth during the Republican primary. Maybe we should play back some of Gingrich's observations regarding Romney's veracity.

Most ads are a waste of money. Is there anyone who really hasn't make up their mind. Anyone who says they have not is just looking for attention.
