(CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday that President Barack Obama should apologize for his Justice department's "insulting lawsuit" against a voter identification law in the Lone Star State.
Perry took a swing at U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Obama in a statement issued ahead of the president's campaign trip to Texas.

"Perhaps while the President is visiting Texas, he can take a break from big-dollar fundraisers to disavow his Attorney General's offensive and incendiary comments regarding our common-sense voter investigation law," Perry wrote in the statement.
Perry continued: "In labeling the Texas voter ID law as a 'poll tax,' Eric Holder purposefully used language designed to inflame passions and incite racial tension. It was not only inappropriate, but simply incorrect on its face."
"The president should apologize for Holder's imprudent remarks and for his insulting lawsuit against the people of Texas," Perry concluded.
Perry's comments come during a heated national debate over the validity of voter identification laws.
The Justice Department is challenging a Texas law that would have required voters to present photo identification before casting a ballot, a requirement that Holder says would disproportionally affect minorities.
On Monday, a panel in Washington reviewed Texas's request to uphold their voter identification law, which proponents say protects against voter fraud.
Holder told the NAACP last week that voter identification laws could be politically motivated, as it is thought the laws would help Republicans at the polls slightly more than Democrats.
On Tuesday, Obama will attend a luncheon in San Antonio hosted by the city's mayor Julian Castro, U.S. Rep. Charles RodrÃguez and actress Eva Longoria, followed by a fund-raiser. Then he will speak at another event in Austin, also followed by fund-raiser, before heading back to Washington.

Spotter, the numbers on Texas employment have been out there for some time. Check with the new republican talking point, factcheck.org. They destroyed Perry's claims time and time again. Unless you now wish to re-label factcheck as a liberal hack or something....
These right wing nuts (Perry, Romney and more) have really devolved into crybabies. Oh, oh you insulted me now apologize. lol
SCOTUS already upheld laws that stated one must provide valid ID to vote. Just like u have to show ID to get ur freebies fr the govt, cigarettes and alcohol.
To all u ignoramous Obama sheeple, Florida just won. Texas and everywhere else that implemented the same laws will also win. No more fraud. I'm sure if the fraud was happening more in favor of Repubs u sheeple would be screaming for these laws!
This has been another day of liberal hypocrisy....
OOOOops and the unhinged GOBP want voter suppression. The laws weren't used during the Anybody but Mitt(I have nothing to offer)McCain primaries.
Apologize for trying to prevent the GOP/Teatrolls from committing voter fraud by disenfranchising voters through abuse of their control over certain states? Ha.
Sure, right after Cowboy Fonzie sends a personal apology and thank you letter to Obama for the Stimulus funds that were sent to TX and which Cowboy Fonzie used to create 150K GOVERNMENT JOBS in order to offset the private sector job losses....and which he then used to hypocritically claim that he did a wonderful job saving TX jobs from the recession while saying that Obama didn't and pooping on the Stimulus.
@Spotter-
Now you sound like Mitt Romney – making excuses and no sense.
"I'm sure if the fraud was happening more in favor of Repubs u sheeple would be screaming for these laws!"
EXCEPT THE FRAUD IS NOT HAPPENING, PERIOD. IT HAS BEEN DISPROVEN NINE WAYS TO SUNDAY.
Spotter, the report has Texas as having 10% of it's worker making min wage. That has nothing to do with population. Geez, you guys ask for numbers and when you get them, you try to dispute them as well.
Fact is that a man cannot feed his family on min wage.
The Federal Government has given Florida access to the Federal Voter List, law enforcement database, so they can check on the legal status of voters. I think this pretty much says it all.
And why weren't these laws put into affect during the primaries. You know, the republican primaries, in which republicans can make their own rules?
