Romney campaign expected to launch multipronged effort to rebut attacks

Washington (CNN) - In the face of a barrage of negative ads about Bain Capital–as well as calls from Republicans for Mitt Romney to release more years of tax returns–expect the Romney campaign to launch a multipronged offensive to fight back.

There is some acknowledgement inside the campaign, according to sources, that the attacks by the Obama re-election team have begun to drive up Romney's negative ratings. While the national horserace numbers have not moved, there is a sense that the underlying numbers are showing some changes–and not in a good way.

The Romney campaign, which has been outspent by more than 3-1 in key battleground states, intends to start its own ad onslaught.
"This gap (in advertising) won't exist forever," says one source close to the campaign.

After Democrats last week pounced on the issue of when Romney left his job as head of Bain, Team Romney released three different commercials attacking the president's re-election campaign for its tactics.

Campaign surrogates have been briefed on going after Obama for so-called "crony capitalism" and giving preferential treatment to his donors, a charge his advisers categorically deny.

One surrogate reports that, oddly enough, he had not been briefed on how to respond to the attacks on Bain Capital and taxes. The campaign is in overdrive trying to turn the page and start going on offense, with the candidate himself making the case Tuesday that Obama has been bad for small business and doesn't understand what drives Americans.

"I'm convinced he wants Americans to be ashamed of success," Romney said in Irwin, Pennsylvania.

Team Obama expects to win Pennsylvania, as have Democratic presidential candidates since 1992. The Romney campaign, however, claims it has more of a shot at Pennsylvania than did Sen. John McCain–because of Romney's appeal to suburban women.

Some Republicans believe that, in order to break out of this bad cycle, Romney needs to change the subject to something bigger–like his vision for the economy.

"I would move on with economic vision for the country," says one senior GOP strategist. "How about calling on Congress to stay in through August, get a solution to the fiscal cliff and elevate the debate?"

Who is more qualified to attack our president on being un American than Mittens, a limp wristed flip flopping chicken hawk who avoided the Viet Nam War in France, keeps a substantial amount of money out of the country, evades taxes, jobs outsourcer, who has lied his way to the nomination of the bagger party?

If Romney doesn't do something as benign as release his tax records then why would ANYONE think this man could possibly support transparency in government?? The GOP are inept are governing because they HATE government and are therefore the WORST possible candidates to RUN a government! Who would want to marry someone who doesn't believe in marriage?? Then why would anyone vote for candidates from a party who HATE government?? Their hatred translates into incompetency! They are NOT QUALIFIED to run our government...except into the ditch!! Thank you GWB!!

Of course Romney should release at least eight years of his income tax. This should be the minimum released by any
individual who is serious about running for high government office. Governmental officials should be responsive to
the electorate. We the people have the right to vet those we choose to represent us. If the American people want to see his tax records, then he needs to oblige. His failure to do so should remove him from consideration for the highest
    government office in the land.

  8. Wake up people

All he has to do is show us the tax papers. There is definitely something amiss. If there wasn't Mittens would show the taxes, shut us all up and enjoy his conservative support.

    OBAMA 2012!

Mitts attacks which will be lies, distortions, fabrications, false accusations, and anti American rhetoric will not dceive the American people this time! Repuglican hypocrisy is at an all-time high in America! Mitt signs into law a healthcare mandate, now he say it's unconstitutional and demands repeal of a Healthcare plan he was the "father" of and similarly implemented in Massachusetts! Repuglican spin machine wants this to a non-issue, like the, evaporation of 5 trillion surplus, -8.9 GDP, 11 trillion national debt, 1.3 trillion deficit, 2.8 trillion in tax cuts (unpaid for)2 Wars (unpaid for), Medicare prescription plan (unpaid for), 3 trillion borrowed from China, a Wall Street, Banking, Auto, Mortgage crisis’s, losing over 800,000 jobs monthly and a economy on the brink of depression when President Obama took office! Repuglican spin is that this economy belongs to Obama! Well, when this country is out of the recession started under George Bush, I will agree! Until then, President Obama is still cleaning up repuglican mess of 6 years total control and 8 years Presidential control, whose policies and spending hit our economic structure, like the iceberg that struck the Titanic! Now, these same repuglican "Talking Heads" who sponsored, voted and defended these disastrous policies, want the "Keys" back too the car, because it’s been fixed up and is in running condition, "not perfect" just good enough so they can finish what they started! Well, I will not let the American people forget what they took 8 years to do, to this country! Just as Jim Bowie, and Davy Crockett shouted "remember the Alamo" in Texas, I now shout "Remember what those eight years under George Bush and Repulican policies did to this country!" If President Obama had taken over with a economy, like what Clinton left Bush, Bush's economy would not even be applicable to the conversation! Out of 14 recessions including the Great Depression, 13 were started under a repuglican President, a democrat had to clean up the mess!

  10. Republicans - "The Not Intended to Be Factually Accurate" Party

As long as Mr. Obama keeps the middle class focused on voting for their own self interests instead of those of the 1%`ers, he will do just fine.

The Republicans have sold a bunch of "Joe-the-Plumber types" a PIPE DREAM . . . you too can be rich . . . and so you should support our GOP tax vision which shifts the tax burden downward to "broaden the revenue base" because ONE DAY in the future, you`ll benefit from it.

I got a suggestion folks, vote your HERE and NOW and address your lower tax rates for the 1%Lers after you cross that QUARTER-of-a- MILLION per year mark.

Its just the same old game. remember the old shell game where you put a pea under one of three shell and shift them around hoping that the shell with the pea is not picked. Same game with Romney's campaign keep your mind on something else, Yhr only problem is will the American people be dumb enough to keep guessing

Cheez Louise Buddy! You can launch multipronged attacks, shoot laser beams from your eyes and juggle bananas until you're blue in the face ... or you can simply release your tax returns like EVERY presidential candidate does and end the discussion...

...unless it doesn't end the discussion...

Romney can rebute all the attacks he wants to. The bottom line ? He is not going to win the Presidential Election period.Even his own Party really doesn't like him.I kind of feel sorry for Romney because the T-Party is really pulling his strings and the Big Money guys too.Now that all the Tax issues are slamming him and the overseas Bank accounts, sending jobs overseas ect, the american people will not accept that at all.To tell ya the truth, Romney is nothing more than a rich-boy who feels entitled and is self-consumed on the Title fact. POTUS Title. He really doesn't care about the average person at all.He even stated that he wasn't worried about the Poor eighter. Just wait till he has to go face 2 face with President Obama, it's going to be a disaster to say the least. The world is going to be watching this debate in every country on the planet. It will be the most entertaining venture recorded in History.

We don't care about your ads Mr. Romney, where's your tax returns. The Republicans want them before September so they can give you a retroactive boot.

how about producing the returns? Actually we can expect romney to produce a few more returns lets say 07 to 09 (when he was actively running for president) and then announce the issue is behind us. He will not touch the years of 99-05. That has probably been the plan from the start.

how do you build a stable economy, do you want an economy with a private sector and public sector partnership to move our country forward, or you just want an economy based upon fake numbers by big corporations that the economy is doing good, and depend entirely upon the volitile stock market. well if this is what the American people.want just because big business and their greed give the repubs money, to say this is what is good for the country. the gullible deserves what is coming to them. let the earth fight to exist with her furry, let factories move from our shores to bypass American middle class wages, let the fake economy of the bush era return with a furry. this is what the gullible wants, well let them have it!!! .
