Rubio phones into campaign event after plane makes emergency landing

(CNN) - Sen. Marco Rubio delivered a speech by telephone Saturday after his plane made an "emergency landing" in Albuquerque, New Mexico, preventing him from physically making it to a Mitt Romney rally in Des Moines, Iowa.

"Not one, but two planes I was on today had malfunctions," Rubio tweeted. "Second one forced to make emergency landing in New Mexico. I know how to take a hint!"

Rubio also said he was looking forward to the rally, but the replacement plane would not arrive in time for him to make it.

A spokesman for the Albuquerque International Sunport told CNN that the plane may have had an electrical issue.

"We did have a private plane land here at about 3:58 local and they had a sensor that indicated that it could be an electrical problem," spokesman Daniel Jiron said. "They went to Atlantic Aviation to make a determination on the issue."

Rachel Sandoval with Atlantic Aviation said four passengers were aboard the jet, and that passengers thought the battery was overheating and believed they saw smoke.

Rubio is a high-profile surrogate for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, and was scheduled to hold a campaign event for Romney in Iowa at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday. Earlier in the day, he attended an event in Las Vegas.

Well, if he were to fly like us, poor middle class people... he would have been stuck for hours!

He may be lucky. The folks in New Mexico don't resemble the bigoted, right-wing population of gullible red-necks he relies upon in Florida.

Sen. Marco Rubio will not attend a Saturday campaign event in Iowa after his plane made an "emergency landing" in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Sunday, the Florida Republican tweeted.

I didn't know it was Sunday in NM...

Glad everyone is okay. Other than that, mom told me," Don't say anything if I can't say anything nice."

Not in the stars for you Rubio....and I know this is not the thread to broach the subject, but there may be something wrong with Obama...his birth date 8/04/61,gives him the astrological sign of Leo (July 23-Aug 22).....Obama's real life behavior is out of sync with his sign....Obama needs help. That is what is in the tea leafs.....are there any astrological sign readers out there that "sees" something else....Obama is way,way out of his path?? Yes, he is leading our Nation to hell in a hand basket with his "engineered" recession....his future will rip and tear at the very existence of your family unity.....but, not to fret...the demise of Mankind is written in the southern hemisphere of the Orion Constillation....we are almost there....Earth's magnetic field strength has now decreased down to 50% of maximum strength...when it gets close to 0% strength...hug all your Democrates, and Republicans good-bye....party is over.....for Mankind..

Oh no. What is the conspiracy? If it is near election time, and you are either a liberal with losing poll numbers or a conservtive with winning poll numbers, you better stay off the planes.

Rubio sounds like a "drama queen", just get on another plane and be done with it, I'm sure there are commercial flights available to accomodate him, that is if he doesn't think he's too good to fly with the general public.

"Rachel Sandoval with Atlantic Aviation said four passengers were aboard the jet, and that passengers thought the battery was overheating and believed they saw smoke." – That is impossible. The batteries are in the back of the aircraft in a completely seperated exterior compartment. It would have been impossible for the passengers to see or even smell smoke from an overheating aircraft battery. How would the passengers diagnose an overheating battery anyways? CNN very much needs to fact check their sources before posting reports like this.
