Cheney: Picking Palin in 2008 was a 'mistake'

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain made a mistake in 2008 by picking then-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, former Vice President Dick Cheney said in an interview that aired Sunday.

Cheney led the vice presidential search for Gerald Ford in 1976, and again for George W. Bush in 2000. That last search resulted in Cheney himself being selected, and he served as Bush's number two for eight years.

On Sunday, Cheney said Palin failed to meet the number one requirement for a vice president: a readiness to step into the top job if needed.

"Based on her background, she was only governor for two years, I don't think she passed that test of being ready to take over. And I think that was a mistake," Cheney said in an interview with ABC News.

Cheney, who said he knows and likes Palin, argued that considerations about which demographic a potential candidate could help pull in clouded the 2008 decision to put Palin on the ticket.

"Those are important issues but they should never be allowed to override that first proposition and I think that's one of the problems that McCain had," Cheney said.

Choosing Palin was nowhere near the mistake that choosing Cheney was. How many thousand guys died for his failed war in Iraq? Cheney was, is, and always has been an opportunist and a draft-dodger. And his wife is even worse. Horrible, horrible people - both of them. Its no reason their daughter turned out with issues.

Wow!!! It only took 4 years for someone in the republican party to acknowledge Palin was not ready to be the president. A little slow on the uptake.

I knew that 4 years ago. I would be very proud to have such insight, but so did one hundred million other people. So obvious makes me think McCain purposefully threw the election, Same phenomenon picking Romney. The power brokers running the country, I believe, want Obama as their figurehead. OK by me.

Yo, Richie. Be humble. You started a war built on lies and fears. Palin could easily do the same. The two of you have so much in common.

Not only was she not ready to step into the role of president, she wasn't ready to step into the role of VP. She had no clue what that role was. She had no understanding of world affairs, no solid idea of this country's history, let alone what government branch presides over what function, and she had no decorum – no clue to the propriety and respect of other people and other cultures so needed in someone in both a leadership and diplomatic role. Worse than that, she showed absolutely no desire to learn. The best thing that happened to this country was McCain's loss.

Cheney is completely correct. Cheney knows everything. Everyone else is wrong except Cheney and his life has been
spent telling everyone what is true. If he had been President he would have corrected every other President's mistakes.
The question is would you like to live in the world he would have created? Just maybe he is the "mistake".

It's too bad he is still around in the news, running his mouth. Cheney makes me want to upchuck.
What he should be saying now is that Romney is as bad as Palin, and is the main candidate.
I don't think these women who support Palin will vote for Romney if they look into the mormon way.
Then again, anybody supporting Palin..........needs help.

Mitt Romeny is too smart a guy to pick Sarah Palin. I don't think he's going to make the same mistake that McCain made. Had McCain picked Romeny instead of Palin McCain would be President today. Right now no one knows who Romeny will pick. I believe that he won't pick a VP until right up until the Republician Convention. This is a smart move on Romeny's part because this keeps the everyone guessing. Sarah Palin should do just what she is doiing getting key Republician elected and stay a "Power Broker". It would be a big mistake for Romeny to select Sarah Palin for a cabinet post. I have to agree with former Vice President Dick Cheney that Sarah Palin would be a bad choice.

This is a rethug ploy to now say the old man made a mistake choosing this bimbo over the lesser of two clowns. The bully bishop or the clueless. The flip flopper has already shown the world that not doesn't he have what it takes with that creepy look of his but that money can't buy smarts or diplomacy or brains!
It doesn't matter what we have all known since 2008 and the mistake made by mcnasty, culvahouse and those who thought that just any woman would do it. It wasn't a woman it had to be the right woman and the mutant failed miserably, and continues to fail miserably, as a mother or human being. Where's Trig? Anyone seen him lately?

It took Mr. Cheney four years to come to this conclusion? What keen grasp of the obvious he has. I can't believe that this guy was actually Vice President of the United States of America.

Palin's bigotry, ignorance, greed and corruption pales in comparison the that of Cheney's. The Bush/Cheney junta is the biggest disaster this country has every experienced and we will all be paying for it for years if not decades.
