Obama opens wallet, makes first donation to his campaign

(CNN) – President Barack Obama made a $5,000 donation to his campaign Monday night, the first contribution the president has made to his re-election effort.

In an email to supporters, Obama wrote that his donation "won't be enough to surmount the unprecedented fundraising we've seen on the other side, both from our opponent's campaign and from the outside groups and special interests supporting him."

An Obama campaign aide said the donation was made online in New York City, where Obama attended a fund-raiser Monday.

Obama's email announcing his donation came as his campaign was peppering supporters with emails asking for contributions before the end of the month. In June, Mitt Romney and the Republican National Committee brought in $100 million, out-raising Obama and the Democrats who took in $71 million.

In May, Mitt and Ann Romney each donated $75,000 to the Romney Victory Fund, the joint fundraising committee between Romney's campaign and the RNC.

Under U.S. law, $75,800 is the maximum amount an individual can contribute to the fund, though each candidate is permitted to give unlimited funds to his own campaign.

Obama's contribution was first reported by the Huffington Post.

WOW!!! A pathetically small amount for a millionaire that has lived off the tax payers for 4 years. I guess he sees the writing n the wall and is saving his money for finding a new residence next January.

True, but all we have to do is SHOW UP AND VOTE FOR YOU and that alone will send a message that America is NOT for sale nor will it ever be.

Unfortunately for Democrats, Obama’s unprecedented fundraising push has not kept pace with his unprecedented campaign-spending rate. Just like the economy

He is now hoping Clinton will save the day at the Dem Convention. Obama can't talk economy. That is why he does not. Obama can out spend Kim Kardashian though. Its probably better that he is out raising money so he does not cause any more damage.

Romoney himself and his Mormon church have contributed over 32 million to his failed effort to buy a country – but he hasn't touched the money he is hiding in the Cayman Islands – NOR is he reporting it in his AMERICAN taxes

America DO NOT sell out to the highest bidder – it will destroy your HONOUR and COUNTRY

Don't worry Mr. Obama, the American people aren't as stupid as the Republicans think. Who in their right mind would want a robot for President! Mr. Romney should go home and save his money.

I like the fact that the President donated $5000 to his own campaign.
It's a symbolic gesture on his part to the millions of average Americans that have and will contribute to his campaign in small doses.
Unlike Robmey and his friends/corporations/puppett masters/co-buyers/investors/ and 23 average Americans, President Obama is NOT attempting to buy the Presidency.
President Barack Hussein Obama 2012. Because America deserves the BEST.

It's not how much money you have its how you spend it.. The fact Romney can't even visit another Country without making us Americans look like fools is sad.. Just goes to show you, you can only buy so much before ignorance shows its true colors. Money is worthless at this point, voters are not getting what they paid for on all areas of Washington! This goes for both sides, Obama needs to smarten up as well, lucky for him the most important issue is actually Congress and how they choose to waste money over arguing rather than help fix the problems.. Obama doesn't need much money like Romney does anyway, because Romney is flushing his own campaign down the can.

We all still have your back Mr. President. We don't need a bunch of ADs which we all either turn the station or turn it down when they come on. If your watching both candidates, check the facts (and I don't mean at Political Fact, I have caught them several times being wrong on both sides) and if your smart you know Mitt is not President material. Mitt has been running for President 4 times now... What makes him think today is a new day? Signed by a Republican voting straight Democratic Ticket in 2012. I'm giving the President his Congress too. My company's future and my children's future depends on it.

He should open up his wallet to the struggling Americans as well. He raised almost a billion in 2008 and I am sure he has raised close to that now as well. Instead of using that money for negative campaign and ads, he should share it with the very poor . And even take a salary cut.
    !
After all he has never owned a business, or otherwise. He made all his money from politics.

""Federal Court finds Obama appointees interfered with New Black Panther prosecution" "

That's not what the ruling says and the Washington Examiner headline is 100% mischaracterization. All the ruling says is that emails exist between DOJ and some appointees and that Judicial Watch should be able to get them through a FOIA request. It makes no comment nor finding regarding the substance of the emails. The WE was clearly unable to restrain its right-wing bias on this one...perhaps the same people who own it will be telling their editors at The Weekly Standard, another right wing trash rag, to do likewise and publish a blatant mischaracterization of the ruling.

Dominican mama 4 Obama- Obama's master puppeteer, George Soros bought the presidency for him in 2008, Obama announced before the campaign actually began this time that he would have $1 Billion for his reelection campaign; sounds like he THINKS he can buy it.

Oh yawn. You guys should have to eat your tinfoil hats for that one. Nothing makes you angrier than massive, widespread voter registration drives, eh? Don't worry your pretty little tinfoil-encased heads about it though...we know why it drives you nuts...WE KNOW...

Good for you Mr. Obama. Don't forget to take the tax break you get on that.
It's much less that Willard's "horse" deduction. If he'd release those tax returns we see what he doesn't want the American people to confirm – that he pays less in taxes than MOST of the working people, middle-class and all.
Where's your Tax returns Mitt ?

    =======================================================================================
He bought it with record money in 2008 and was trying to do it again, until he discovered people weren't contributing to him like they did in 2008. The billion dollar presidential purchase was simply not to be.

Seems lefties and Democrats only have a problem with people contributing if that money isn't going to them. Scream and cry all you want children.... you've played wolf far too often for people to care about your screams.
