Washington (CNN) – The Obama campaign has taken the extraordinary step of booking $77 million in additional ad time starting Friday and running through Election Day, a Republican ad buying source told CNN.
The new buy is for thirty second broadcast TV spots that will run in eight battleground states.

Through Thursday Team Obama will have spent at least $106 million in general election ads – more than twice what the Mitt Romney campaign has bought. This buy will bring his total media purchase so far this cycle to almost $190 million.
However, GOP groups, such as American Crossroads and its affiliate Crossroads GPS and Restore Our Future, the super PAC backing Mitt Romney have helped to give Republicans an overall spending advantage in recent weeks for ad spending compared to the Obama re-election campaign and its supporters.
As the general election media war heats up – especially after the party conventions wrap up – this move will allow the re-election campaign to ensure it can place its commercials in these key battlegrounds although the move could take a major dent out of its bank account.
Voters in these battleground states have already complained they have been inundated with political commercials – which in recent months have been largely attack spots. However, from all indications that onslaught will continue. Republican-leaning groups are expected to spend around $1 billion in presidential and congressional races this election cycle with a majority of that money being devoted to ad spending, sources familiar with the groups have told CNN.
Team Obama had no comment on this latest buy.
Politico first reported earlier this week that Obama's campaign was reserving ad time through Election Day.
Here is the breakdown of the new Obama buy:
Colorado: $7,025,120
Florida: $13,355,226
Iowa: $7,315,224
Nevada: $4,939,620
New Hampshire: $4,939,620
North Carolina: $7,647,844
Ohio: $19,533,433
Virginia: $11,582,494

I have to question their ad buy in North Carolina. If he wins it, good for him, but it won't even be close to the state that puts him over the top.
Meanwhile, TiVO sales have surged in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.
( If you let your program record a few minutes ahead you can fast forward through all the attack ads. )
WOW, who needs Casino & ( overseas ) money,& Koch Bros-Karl Rove big bucks ? Pres.Obama seems to have some of GODS money ! LOL....Thats good to hear. I hope God keep up the good work ! The POTUS deserves another term.
Everyone understands all of the propaganda, the real choices will be made after the debates !
It is good for Republicans for Obama to spend money advertising on this failing network.
imagine the good they could have done with that money
what a waste of money.
GOOD! Shall this Godless Romney fell down from the stairs of fallacy.
Great more propaganda.
At least you can't claim the Romney bought the presidency.
you have to watch TV to see this. I turned mine off and down sized my service in late 2007 and only watch one on sports events!
Sick. Why vote for this guy? His food stamp unemployment polocies drain us and hes spending 200$ mil on ads? Treason! I dont support romney either, and i dont want to hear about 'blame bush' which is a typical lib argument
And this why we need to remove money from political elections. Both parties are spending way too much money and special interests – on both sides – have too much influence. Elections should be publicly funded with a set, equal amount allocated to each candidate and the amount based upon the position being filled.
So he's just buying his votes pretty much. Spending $106 million in just ads... Try harder Obama.
The only people who care about this is the TV Broadcasters, big whoop !
how about spend that money, and give it out to the poor, or the people who are uneployeed, it would defenanantly get you their vote, plus get you a good name....
If these candidates can raise so much money in so little a time, why can't this nation stop fighting against each other and put these stupid "he said / she said" type of campaigns to rest, and use that same money to either pay off the national debt?
Obie, has no choice! Gotta keep the negative and the lies going. What are you going to do when you have no record to run on?
It was just revealed that Solyndra referred to the White House as their "Washington Bank", truly sickening!
No Pennsylvania? Looks like Obama is quite sure of his victory there.
Why not just say, go vote for Obama, you channel is so bias
Buy stock in TV companies.
There is a law in effect for campaign ads where it you purchase ad time early you only pay 60% of the cost, look it up. I assume that's why President obama wanted his donors to max out early.
How many families homes would 77 million save? How many small business's would 77 million have helped? How many children in poverty would 77 million save? And on and on.
America-where buying elections is perfectly legal as long as it is done through television...(sidenote: the republicans are no better...)
Now he can tell us how great the first four years were/are? Run on his record? He can spend the money.
