Romney lands second $100 million month

(CNN) - The fundraising effort of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney brought in more than $100 million for the second month in a row, his campaign said Monday morning.

The $101.3 million haul is just shy of the campaign’s June fundraising, which reached $106.1 million.

Romney's effort ended July with $185.9 million cash on hand, up from the $160 million in the campaign war chest at the end of June.

Both numbers include money raised by Romney's campaign, the Republican National Committee, and several state parties in a joint committee known as Romney Victory.

President Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee, meanwhile, raised $75 million in July, marking the third consecutive month the president has been outraised by his Republican challenger. Obama's similar alliance of committees raised $71 million in June.

Romney's campaign said nearly 95% of donations - some 600,627 - received in July were for $250 or less.

In July, Romney's fundraisers included one held in Jerusalem and attended by major GOP donor Sheldon Adelson.

In announcing the numbers, Romney Victory National Finance Chairman Spencer Zwick said, "We are honored to have the support of a broad spectrum of donors—independents, Democrats and Republicans—whose support of Governor Romney shows that he has the needed plan to jumpstart our economy and get the country on the right track again.

"We are well on track to raise the money to be successful in November," he continued.

Zwick and a couple members of his finance team joined Romney on the road last week, attending closed finance events in Reno, Nevada, as well as one in Sun Valley, Idaho where Romney picked up Clint Eastwood's endorsement. The fundraisers, having occurred in the first week of August, did not factor into July's numbers.

In Sun Valley, Romney's young finance chair spoke briefly about how the campaign has outraised the competition and has more cash on hand than the Obama team.

"I want you to know we're using this money very wisely," Zwick said before urging donors to help them "turn this campaign into a cause" by reaching out to their friends and colleagues across the country.

the people handing romney $100 million will expect much more in payback if he gets elected-they want at least 10 times their investment in government deals, contracts, grants, programs, set asides.... It's a big con-and taxpayers are the chumps having to pay up.

Romney's campaign said nearly 95% of donations – some 600,627 – received in July were for $250 or less.

In the words of GW, "that's some fuzzy math". ..that is roughly 570,595 people, however if each only gave $5, then that is only $2.8 million of the $100 million, conversely if each gave $250, then that would be over $140 million alone without the larger donors factored in...so this stat means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

It begs the question, why not state the percentage of $ that we're $250 or less? I'm just saying....

Romney doesn't release those returns, he won't be elected.
Problem is he might not be elected if he DOES release those returns.

All this money going into the elections. Seems so wasteful when the country is such need. Instead of donating to politics, donate to feed the hungry, clothe the children, or help your neighbor. Rules in elections need to change. And yes, that goes for both sides of the fence.

The amount of money being wasted in this campaign turns my stomach. How dare any corporation/business person who is donating large bucks say that our economy is in the tank and the private sector is not doing well. It is all fabrications and stonewalling to make President Obama look bad and it is disgusting. If they are so worried about the debt why not use that money to help our country? I know there are big corporate donors on both sides so this goes for both. Also, with the millions that Romney himself has, if he's such a patriot and is so worried about the unemployed, why hasn't he used some of his dollars to start re-education programs, or manufacturing plants or whatever else would produce jobs? Instead, he hides his money off-shore & this is what we want for our President!!

Romney should release his tax returns right AFTER Obama releases his historical records that he paid millions to hide. We know nothing about the man except the fictional books he wrote and the little tidbits he has let slip; "my muslim faith". 57 states,.redistribution of wealth, etc.

MITT - RELEASE YOUR TAX RETURNS!!! If Harry Reid is such a "liar", then you can prove him so! What's your excuse?? Oh...maybe we should all be asking John McCain why he didn't pick you for his VP! Ya know...because you gave him 20+ years of your tax returns and HE FREAKED ABOUT HOW DAMAGING IT WOULD BE TO THE REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGN!

MITT IS A FOOL – AND SO IS ANYONE STUPID ENOUGH TO VOTE FOR HIM!! HE HAS NO PLANS – EXCEPT TO GO BACK TO THE BUSH ERA POLICIES THAT SCREWED OUR NATION IN THE FIRST PLACE! HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOU AND ME!! HE ONLY CARES ABOUT HIS MISERLY SELF AND SQUEEZING EVERY LAST DIME HE CAN OUT OF HIS MONEY EARNING MONEY OVERSEAS! HE'S A DISGRACE OF A HUMAN BEING- AND UNTIL MITT RELEASES ALL HIS TAX RETURNS, I'M 110% BEHIND HARRY REID'S ASSERTIONS! WHY ELSE WOULD MITT BE HOLDING BACK?????????
