Washington (CNN) - CIA Director David Petraeus is shooting down a report that tossed his name into the mix as a potential running mate for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
The suggestion came Tuesday from The Drudge Report, which is very popular and influential among conservatives.

A few hours later a spokesman for the CIA director and former top commander of U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan put out a statement shooting down such talk of Petraeus leaving his post in a Democratic administration to join the GOP ticket.
"Director Petraeus feels very privileged to be able to continue to serve our country in his current position, and as he has stated clearly numerous times before, he will not seek elected office," said CIA Spokesman Preston Golson.

The man has far, far too much class to join a Republican ticket. Besides, I don't think he could be trusted to take orders from the Koch brothers.
Good to see that the man has too much class to be on the Grand Obstructionist Party ticket..
These running mate "rumors" are most likely deliberately created and disseminated by the Romney campaign so that they can gauge the response of political analysts and the general public.
There was no way they would have picked him; he wouldn't put up with the kind of crap dished out by Romney's handlers, e.g., the Koch Bros., the Turdblossom, and Sheldon the Felon, all the people who would really be running the country if the sockpuppet were ever elected.
Actually, I think Patraeus would get those Koch brothers squared away........he'd have them peeling potatoes and scrubbing toilets in no time. He'd also be giving orders to Mitt.......might be able to get him squared away as well. It would be entertaining to watch......
The question is going from, "Who will alexithymic Mitt pick," to "Who is willing to run with Mitt?
The Drudge Report is Team Romney's GO-TO-GUY(S) for when a "distraction" is needed, if there's too much heat on alexithymic Mitt--remember the rumour that The Drudge Report came out with, that Mushroom Cloud-Condi was going to be Mitt's VP choice???
Hey, Mitt! STOP USING OUR MILITARY PEOPLE to try to get yourself into the Oval Office-it didn't work in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and it won't work in the Belt Way, either.
Have you no decency, Mitt Romney???
I really doubt he would want to serve with a draft-dodger like Willard. Romney only knows how to get other people's kid's killed in wars.
Yeah, because the Drudge report is soooo accurate.
Yet again, it's proven that Matt Drudge has no credibility whatsoever – you'd think that even the gullible rightwingers would have learned by now to NOT trust anything Drudge tells them.
Romney will put anyone in the MIX and see how it gets tossed – In reality, there are not too many that are THRILLED about the second spot!!!
Obama 2012 – The Only Trusted Way Forward!!
He's too intelligent for the (lower forms of life), needed to be a politician.
I knew Director Petraeus wouldn't bite on this bait. He understands honor and he is now serving the current President,
there's no way he'd jump ship. I'm not at all surprised and believed him to be too attactive a candidate for the Romney campaign. Romney's number 2 will be distinctly underwhelming, as he himself has proven to be.
I agree , the man has far too much class to be Romney's Lap Dog
Another good man leaving the wreck?
No one with any sense will join this ticket. It is a one way trip to failure. Mitt just cannot get his act together. He is his own worst enemy. Is it possible he is actually a Democratic shill cleverly working to undermine the GOP agenda?
This man is a hero and not a politician – we need more heros
It would be an absolute insult for the American people and someone of Petraeus' caliber to be #2 on a ticket with the likes of Romney. I hope Petraeus is on the top of the ticket in 2016. HE is a republican I could vote for!
He is not a toxic like the gop.
It is nice to know that he still puts his country first and doesn't get into the politics of running for office. It would have added a lot to the Romney ticket; that would be the military aspect, foreign policy and command understanding of the military and espinoge needs of the country.
