Jindal on Romney VP pick: 'It's not about the vice president'

Colorado Springs, Colorado (CNN) - As the entire political establishment awaits word of Mitt Romney's running mate, is one potential pick blowing off its importance and potential impact?

When asked by CNN on Thursday if he's awaiting word from the Romney campaign on whether or not he'll be picked, Gov. Bobby Jindal deflected the question – then intimated that the selection itself won't amount to much.

"The bottom line is, this election is about two different visions for America," the Louisiana Republican said. "This election is about Gov. Romney wanting to grow the private sector. President Obama, he's had his chance. His policies haven't worked."

"This election is not about Joe Biden. It's not about the vice president. It's about the two guys running at the top of the ticket," Jindal added.

The governor spoke to a reporter after rallying a small crowd on Romney's behalf outside a diner in Colorado Springs. Jindal was joined by Utah Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz. Jindal and Ohio Sen. Rob Portman – another potential Romney VP – campaigned across Colorado on separate days as the president visited the state

Jindal's words are sure to inflame the guessing game about who's high on the list – and who's not. But he is not the only prominent Republican governor to downplay the significance of the number two slot. Last week, Texas Gov. Rick Perry told CNN that Romney's VP pick won't make much difference.

Whether or not he gets the nod, Jindal has shown himself to have the political attack-dog bona fides required for a running mate.

At the Colorado Springs rally, Jindal continued his recent and unyielding political attacks on the president, often delivered from an iron fist in a velvet glove.

"[Obama] is a fine husband, a fine father - from everything you can see, a fine man," Jindal told the small crowd gathered in a diner's parking lot.

"I really only got two problems with our president: number one is that he is the most liberal president since Jimmy Carter was in the White House. My second problem with him, is that he is the most incompetent president since Jimmy Carter was in the White House."

Jindal has previously invoked Jimmy Carter to attack the president but the line shows his ability to connect the punch.

And on Thursday Jindal continued about Obama: "He has tried and he has failed. He has done the best he can. But his best isn't good enough for America."

This is very well put. The problem is not that so many people hate Obama or think that he's not trying his best. The problem is that his policies have had their run and they didn't do what America needs done. So does he change his methods? You would think so, but he is not. He has no new plan and apparently he thinks he didn't spend enough debt money trying to buy the economy back to life. He is proceeding forward with more of Plan A and Plan A did not work.

"I really only got two problems?" Apparantly, pandering to the ignorant involves speaking like the ignorant.

It doesn’t really matter who he picks, they can’t save him from himself and that is the real problem.

As one who has lived to see two vice-presidents become presidents, I can assure Mr. Jindal that the VP pick of any party's presidential candidate can be, and is, a deal maker or breaker for me.

Bobby Jindal does not understand older Americans or the history of our country over the last 49 years.

Now why aren't the "Birthers" coming out on Jindal and furthermore Jindal and his family, just like Romney and his family, have never served one day in our U.S. Military but yet they attack a fellow American whose family has served. The only people Romney and his buddy Jindal serve is themselves and their families.

My second problem with him, is that he is the most incompetent president since Jimmy Carter was in the White House."
Funny thing is as incompetent as you guys like to claim that President Carter was no one aborad EVER threw their shoes at him to express their disdain, disgust, and disrespect. He didn't run our country into the ground and as close to a Depression as you could get barring having actually lived through the Crash of '29. He didn't lie us into war due to willful ignorance, avarice, stupidity, and personal resentments that had no place residing in a Commader-in-Chief. And he didn't have to go into hiding after scurrying out the back door of the White House at the end of his term because people so hated his incompetent, coke-sniffing, "Mission Accomplished", C- student word salad talking, budget hiding, deregulating, foreclosure causing, bubble popping butt.
    Just saying.

Save your breath Bobblywobbley. You will not be on the ticket even if you attack until the cows come home. You have a "funny name & funny face". Republicans don't do that!

" he is the most incompetent president since Jimmy Carter was in the White House"

This kind of disingenous nonsense from the right makes me ill. I am not an Obama fan, but he did take over the job from the actual most incompetent president in US history, since then the Repubs have done everything in their power to try to make the President fail. That they have so much support outside the 1% probably says much about the level of education of the average American.

Are these guys kidding or just downplaying it. The wrong VP pick can pull down a campaign. Just ask John McCain.

I don't think that conservatives can really call Carter the worst president. They haven't paid attention to one of their own, George W(oman) Bush. He expanded government and didn't bother to pay for it; Medicare part D and No Child Left Behind.

Don't let Prohibitionist Jindal get near Romney if you want Romney to win. Obama's biggest vulnerability is his war on marijuana dispensaries.

How does Bobby Jingle and the rest of the GOP continue to LIE, and say "the President's policies didn't work", when the GOP has obstructed every single policy the President has tried to enact???

Jindal wants to grow corporate plantations to provide 100% employment through some form of slavery. Obamacare prevents slavery to drug companies and other forms of industrial healthcare that considers worker compensation only a lawsuit against a bad job. The GOP's war on education, women, and heritage resources is to ensure dependency a handful of families who control 99% of people from cradle to grave. Their lost war on drugs in the US is another prison without bars, like worker comp disability, but has shown success being waged against the good people of Mexico.

NO,NO,NO, the entire political establishment is waiting for Romneys VP nomination only the rabid media and punditry who make a living at least partially out of this inane debate.
He will make it at the convention not before ( much to your clear irritation as media) as that is the best political timing as if its perceived as good choice he may get a polling bump.
Give us all a rest whateve you say or do aint going to make it happen sooner... actually i just hope its someone CNN or any other media did not name as possible... Oooops silly me too late every possible has has been named, so you can say we said so!!UGH
