Pro-Obama super PAC releases (less contentious) ad

(CNN) - Priorities USA Action, the pro-Obama super PAC that launched a controversial ad earlier this week, came out with a new spot on Friday–one sure to draw less scrutiny.

In the new ad, a former employee at a steel plant purchased by Romney's former private equity firm, Bain Capital, talks about how his life changed after the plant shuttered its doors.

Bain acquired GST Steel in 1993, but the company went bankrupt in 2001, two years after Romney ceased day-to-day oversight of Bain.

"The plant was my life, I mean, my livelihood," Joe Whitley, who worked at the plant for 29 years, says in the ad. "Romney and Bain, they were businessmen. They had no idea how to make steel. They knew how to make money."

The newly-unveiled spot marks the latest ad in a series of commercials this summer that attack Romney for his work at the private equity firm and feature laid-off workers from businesses purchased by Bain.

"They used us just like we were the scrap steel that we melted, you know, we were just a means to an end," Whitley says.

Starting next week, the ad is set to run in the battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio, according to the group. In total, the multiple Priorities ads this year comprise a $20 million television and online buy.

Responding Friday, Romney's campaign said the new ad was "another discredited attack."

“Just days after the President’s Super PAC released a heinous and despicable ad, and the Obama campaign was caught lying about it, the President’s allies have again come out with another discredited attack," said Romney spokesman Ryan Williams. "After 42 months of unemployment above eight percent, it is clear that the President and his allies don’t have any rationale for reelection. We tried it President Obama’s way and the middle class has paid the price. Mitt Romney has a Plan for a Stronger Middle Class that will jumpstart the economy and bring back millions of jobs.”

While the new spot is hard-hitting, it doesn't go nearly as far as the Priorities ad released Tuesday, which blamed Romney for the death of a former steelworker's wife after the employee lost health care benefits when GST Steel closed down.

Taking a closer look at the controversial ad, CNN found that the man's wife had passed away in 2006, not "soon after" the plant closed down in 2001 like he claimed in the ad.

And while campaigns and super PACs are legally not permitted to coordinate, Obama's campaign is now taking heat for denying it knew details about the man's story, despite featuring him in a conference call with reporters in May.

Tuesday's spot, which has yet to run as a paid TV advertisement, drew fire from Romney's team as evidence that the Obama campaign and its supporters are resorting to "desperate tactics" in the presidential campaign.

- CNN Political Editor Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

The story of the man who blames his wife's death on the flip flopper goes deeper than just the death of the poor woman.
According to the psycho twit's spokeswoman if they had lived in Massachusetts they would have been COVERED BY ROMNEYCARE!!!
One member of some conservative group, red something or other, twitted "OMG this is the end of his campaign"
He is running against Obamacare and everything Obama and his own spokeswoman brings up one of the things he is running from faster than bain and that retroactive resignation and his ghost taxes.

Hit the Robmeys campaign with the kitchen sink. Don't stop. Find others who lost jobs through Ronmey/Bain. Ronmey/Bain runied peoples livelihood. The US nation needs to hear the otherside of the story about Ronmey/Bain and their corporate greed.

    Obama 2012

Jonathan Lavine, Obama's campaign bundler, was running Bain when it had to close GST Steel and people lost their jobs. This unfortunate situation happens in business and it does not make Jonathan Lavine a bad person. Bain kept GST Steel going for as many years as it could but they couldn't compete with China and the Unions had contracts with the previous owner Armco that had to be honored and those contracts had problems. Just because these employees had to be laidoff it does not make Johnathan Lavine a bad person, a vampire, a fat cat nor does he deserve to be hit with the kitchen sink.

Good job on covering both the Rasmusson and Gallop polls; however, you forget to mention the Pew poll which you obviously hold in high regard.

From Pews website,"The latest Pew Research Center survey conducted July 16-26 among 1,956 registered voters nationwide found 51% supporting Barack Obama and 41% Mitt Romney."

No, Mitt Romney did not cause that lady to die .. that ad was uncalled for, and totally wrong ... but, yet, Mitt Romney was in charge when a whole lot of hard workers lost their jobs. Mitt Romney was CEO of a company that worked for profits .. not people .. therefore, many, many families were lost in the shuffle because of money .. greed.

@Marie MD: "One member of some conservative group, red something or other, twitted "OMG this is the end of his campaign"

And Ann Coulter on Hannity told him that "What's the point of his show ..." if Mittens' people keep going off-message and basically letting the cat out of the bag that Obamacare is a GOOD THING – and that Fox and Hannity (and all their programming) exists only as a propaganda machine for the GOP.

BTW, it's good to see Coulter having kittens. She's never liked Mittens – and she's such an awful person, it's actually kinda fun to see her so worked up and in distress!

On TV, the Colorado Springs police chief begged Obama not to come as he had no resources to protect him, and didn't need the extra burden ....but Obama came here anyway..
    Read this.
Colorado Springs ..…they had to suspend flights of the fire fighting tankers because the big O came to town.
No air traffic could be in his vicinity, so the firefighting planes had to stop. The big O (zero) spent hundreds of thosands of taxpayers money to fly across the country in Air Force One to Colorado to make a campaign stop in the middle of a tremendous fire, thereby totally disrupting all the firefighting and police efforts, and causing millions more in fire damage to forestsand homes.. and peoples lives.. all just to make himself look more prominent in the news. This is what we have for a President of our country now folks.
He sure has the best interests of Americans at heart does'nt he! We got "change" alright !

Obamacare is trying to make a one size fit all bill and it doesn't work that way it might have worked in a single state like MASS but Obama can't see that his bill doesn't work period with out a tax increase to the middle class.

Obama has spun this Bain Capital thing ( lied) into such a fairytale that you libs don't know how to distinguish fact from fiction. And this is the mentality that voted this guy in office? Please don't drag us down with you...hopefully rational thought will prevail over your partys lies. (Axelrod,Cutter, Gibbs, Cary and on and on and on)

What could be dirtier the this new attempt by republicans to prevent low income and people of color from voting. There is no evidence of more than two or three cases of voter fraud in this country, yet republicans are claiming we need these new laws in Republican run states. This is a real disgrace.Anything goes now for Obama to win against thesesniveling cowards who shipped our jobs overseas and blame Obama for this economy.Ask your grocer why something simply grown here like apple juice and pumpkin seeds are shipped here from China and marked"distributed in the USA "just to fool you.I thougt we grow more apples and pumpkins than any country in the world? This is what Republican tax cuts to the wealthy did with your jobs.Wait till you see the robbery that will go on if you put this TeaParty crew in charge.
