Roseanne Barr dishes on why she's running for president

(CNN) - Actress and comedian Roseanne Barr, who's running for president as the nominee for the Peace and Freedom Party, said Thursday she's making a White House bid in order to push "socialist solutions."

"I was asked to carry the water and carry a message during this election and to make socialist solutions part of the narrative, because they're being left out and they work," she said on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

Barr won the nomination last week at the party's convention in Los Angeles, along with her running mate Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq and anti-war activist best known for her protest outside of then-President George W. Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas.

Barr had originally sought the Green Party presidential nomination, a bid she announced last year on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," but lost that contest last month to Dr. Jill Stein.

The former "Roseanne" star said Thursday she's tired of what she called the "two-headed beast," referring to the America political system's two main parties: the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.

"All they do is use 'extractionism' as their strategy, they blame each other for the fact that neither one of them has any real solutions," Barr said. "They know they don't have to because they got it all sewn up."

But the White House hopeful reserved her strongest criticism for the nation's wealthy, particularly those who work on Wall Street, and the amount of money spent on political campaigns.

"Government should not be run as a business," she said. "Government is the thing that protects people from fat cats, monopolists and crazy international bankers that write off human life."

- CNN's Ashley Killough and Robert Yoon contributed to this report.

In 2009, Forbes Magazine reported that the happiest people in the world lived in the socialist Scandinavian countries. I wouldn't say that most folks in America are happy, if the CNN news blog is any gauge. Someone has said, "capitalism produces rich bankers, but socialism produces happiness." People on the right are either highly invested in exploitative capitalism, are paranoid, or they don't know any better.

In capitalism, you give up quality of life for the illusion of sham individual freedoms. You're free to own assault rifles and die in the gutter. You work so that somebody else can make money off your labor. In socialism, everybody pools their efforts to make life better for all, rather than for a few bankers and guys who offshore jobs and hide their money (I'm talking to you, Mittler).

It's time to put the old "business man will make a great president" idea to bed. There could hardly be any idea that is more bogus. George W. Bush, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge. Need I say more? The goals and means of business are the inverse of what those of government should be. Business men (and women) may have good organizational skills to lend, but their efficiency orientation and emphasis on profits may be a positive detriment to governing. What we need is someone who has the welfare of Americans at heart, and with a guy like Rob-money, it is transparently obvious that he doesn't have that capacity. His heart is full of greed.

Excellent article! It will keep the focus off the economy and that's what we need to get Obama reelected.

Her life has been a disaster, her career gone and the woman has no education and she thinks she can run the United States???? Seriously, this is just nonsense and a way to get back into Hollywood. This woman has always been reckless and a disaster, vulgar, rude, the lowest you can get. Granted, I don't think President Obama has done a good job but at least he is a lawyer.

To give this women any air time on such an important issue as being President is as shameful as President Obama not removing the commercial that suggest that Mitt Romney was responsible for the steel worker's wife's death. Shameful!

She's a joke, they don't really think she could sway the votes. If they were really trying they would get a candidate, that could be serious.

I thought the President is a socialist. At least that is the nicest thing the teapublikkkans have said about him.
Maybe she will take some votes coming the bully bishop's way. Wouldn't that be funny?

Why does Rosanne waste time on such nonsense? I understand that her career is long over but does she really believe that a high school drop-out with borderline personality can be President? Obviously she knows that she won’t win so why does she bother? Is it a pathetic attempt at reviving her career?
