Republicans react to Romney's choice of Ryan for running mate

(CNN) - Responding to Mitt Romney's announcement of Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate, Republicans praised the pick Saturday morning.

Former President George W. Bush:

"This is a strong pick. Governor Romney is serious about confronting the long-term challenges facing America, and Paul Ryan will help him solve the difficult issues that must be addressed for future generations."

2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain:

"Governor Romney and Representative Ryan are the strongest team to return America to prosperity and to defend our interests abroad. Paul Ryan has proven that he is fully prepared to address our nation's economic challenges, which have only worsened over the last four years under the Obama-Biden Administration. I look forward to working for the election of the Romney-Ryan team this fall."

House Speaker John Boehner:

"Paul Ryan is a reformer and a proven leader who will be a great partner to Governor Romney in his efforts to get our country, and our economy, back on track. At a time when millions of Americans are still looking at President Obama's policies and asking 'where are the jobs?' Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney will focus on common sense solutions to stop Washington from spending money it doesn't have and get the federal government out of the way of small business job creators."

U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell:

"Gov. Romney showed today that he is determined to confront a host of growing crises that President Obama has ignored. Where the current President has simply refused to act, Gov. Romney has now pledged to lead. Paul Ryan is an excellent choice, and a confirmation that Gov. Romney is serious about strengthening America's economic future, tackling the deficits and debt that have skyrocketed under President Obama, and returning to a path to solvency and security.

Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee:

"My friend and fellow Wisconsinite Paul Ryan will serve America admirably as the next Vice President of the United States. Today, Americans are starving for leaders who can fix our economy and get our spending under control. Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan have the knowledge, expertise and vision we need to get America working again and get our fiscal house in order. Across the country, Americans are hurting, but America's Comeback Team will offer us a new direction and a brighter future. I congratulate Governor Romney on his excellent decision. This is a great day for Wisconsin and for America."

Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania:

"Congressman Paul Ryan is an outstanding choice as our country's next vice president, and today's announcement demonstrates Governor Romney's commitment to returning fiscal sanity back to Washington, DC. I have long supported Paul Ryan's fiscal and entitlement reforms to return our country back on a path of fiscal health. At a time when our country is at an economic crossroads, Congressman Ryan's depth of knowledge on how to tackle these challenges is unparalleled. He will serve Governor Romney and our country well to undo the flawed policies of the last four years.

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice

"Paul Ryan is a bold and inspiring choice as Governor Romney's running mate. Congressman Ryan shares the belief that American leadership is vital to a more peaceful and prosperous world. He will help to restore America at home so that we can lead again because he understands that America is an exceptional and indispensable nation on the world stage."

Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire

"Governor Romney has made a fantastic choice in selecting Paul Ryan to be our nominee for Vice President. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will put America back on a path to prosperity by reforming government, enacting real deficit reduction, and overhauling the tax code to spur economic growth. America needs a Romney-Ryan administration to get our fiscal house in order and put Americans back to work."

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie

"With Paul Ryan on the ticket this is a team that understands the economic stagnation our country has been facing the last four years and the urgency with which we need to change course. The Romney-Ryan team is uniquely positioned to make the tough choices necessary to confront our fiscal challenges and get results."

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush:

"I applaud Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan as his Vice Presidential running mate. Congressman Ryan's command of economic policy and the federal budget will prove invaluable as Governor Romney fights to reform government, accelerate job growth and rein in the out-of-control spending that has been a hallmark of President Obama's years in office. This courageous choice is the type of leadership American voters deserve. And, I believe it will ensure a victory for the Romney-Ryan ticket this November."

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell:

“Paul Ryan is a tremendous choice to serve as the Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States. In selecting a bold, innovative thinker, Mitt Romney has ensured that his campaign—and ultimately his administration—will be led by individuals with courage, determination, judgment, and wisdom. With this great announcement, America is on its way back. The Romney-Ryan team will get our fiscal house in order, our economy back on track and Americans back to work.”

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (at a press conference in Milwaukee on Saturday):

"I’ve known Paul throughout the years and know him as a man who is probably the smartest person I know in politics, yet he’s one of the most humble people I know in politics. Paul and I have often talked about the two kinds of people in Washington - not Republican and Democrat, but people who wanna be somebody great and people who want to do something great. Paul Ryan is definitely one of those people who wants to do something great and I think that’s why he was, certainly why Governor Romney was drawn to putting him on the ticket."

"Today, Mitt Romney cemented his vision for America as the economic leader in the world. Paul Ryan's leadership in Congress and his boldness to deal with our financial problems is exactly what Americans want to hear. More importantly, Ryan's boldness is exactly what America needs. Since 2008, uncertainty has plagued employers, families and our economy and the Obama-Biden ticket has failed to realize the depth of the situation.

Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann:

"Americans know we will grow when we are strong. The Romney-Ryan Republican ticket is our Comeback Ticket to prosperity and strength. I'm proud to support these men and look forward to their success."

Amy Kremer, chairwoman of Tea Party Express:

"We have been polling our members for the last couple of months, and Paul Ryan, along with Senator Marco Rubio, have had the strongest support from Tea Party Express supporters across the country. Ryan is a strong fiscal conservative, and he has used his Chairmanship of the House Budget Committee to address the serious financial woes facing the country."

Ralph Reed, Faith and Freedom Coalition:

"Mitt Romney choosing Paul Ryan as his vice presidential nominee is an inspired, outstanding selection. Paul Ryan is a rare and exceptional public servant who combines the courage of his convictions with a sharp intellect and a winsome personality. I have known him since he worked for Jack Kemp at Empower America in the early 1990s, worked with him in passing sound budgets in the House, and am proud to count him as a friend. He is a person of devout Christian faith who has a 100 percent pro-life and pro-family voting record in his 14 years in Congress. He will excite and energize social conservatives, who will play a critical role in the outcome of the elections."

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony List, a national anti-abortion rights organization:

"By selecting Congressman Ryan as his vice presidential running mate, Governor Romney demonstrates his commitment to protecting American women and unborn children. A longtime pro-life advocate and a strong fiscal conservative, Congressman Ryan has insisted that there can be no 'truce' when it comes to advancing the rights of the unborn and achieving fiscal responsibility. He has a pristine pro-life voting record and will be an asset to Governor Romney's campaign.

R. Clarke Cooper, executive director of Log Cabin Republicans:

"Congressman Paul Ryan is a strong choice for vice president, and his addition to the GOP ticket will help Republican candidates up and down the ballot," said , Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. "As chairman of the House Budget Committee and author of the Republican "path to prosperity" that provided the blueprint for serious spending cuts in this Congress, nobody is more qualified to articulate a conservative economic vision to restore the American economy and stimulate job creation.

Chris Chocola, president of Club for Growth:

"Congressman Ryan wants the same thing we do: to pass pro-growth policies and shrink the size and scope of government. No one understands the dire consequences we face by continuing to ignore our spending problem better than Congressman Ryan, and no one can do a better job of articulating a vision of how to fix it. Most importantly, this pick sends the message that Governor Romney is interested in bold reforms to save America from fiscal collapse. For the future of America, we hope that they are successful."

Excellent choice, Paul Ryan is all mathematics, economics, accounting unlike Obama who has no idea of mathematics and got used to passing the buck to someone else to answer on his behalf because he can never answer mathematics questions, he cannot engage in a conversation of economics because he didn't bother to study any of it!!!!!! He thought law would be enough to carry him as president but he found out there is more to being a president than law, you also have to know numbers!!!!!!!!!

Paul Ryan voted for Medicare Part D, aka the Prescription Drug Plan, which forbid Medicare from any bargaining with drug companies over the cost of medicine. Considered to be a giveaway to drug companies. Yet now, his 'budget' would force seniors to take a set amount of money each year to pay for whatever kind of insurance they can then fit into their budget.

    1) Medicare part D is a major reason Medicare is going solvent so soon.
    2) Ryan claims his plan is the only way to 'save' Medicare; by making it useless to many seniors.

    Not a good man.

Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what all the freeloaders and women's groups looking for free abortions and free birth control pills and free condoms are saying.

From my above post, I meant to say:
    1) Medicare part D is a major reason Medicare is going insolvent so soon.

A great choice, Romeny has pick someone that is aware of what is going on and what needs to be done to fix this. Unlike Obama and the rest of his squawking parrot party, that has the idea of tax and spend to get things going.
