Axelrod: Enthusiasm for Ryan reminiscent of Palin

(CNN) – A top adviser to President Barack Obama's re-election campaign said Monday that Republicans' enthusiasm for the newly named vice presidential pick Paul Ryan echoed the fervor that met Sarah Palin when she was selected by Sen. John McCain in 2008 to join the GOP ticket.

"There's no doubt that I think the appointment thrilled the base of the Republican party, the tea party Republicans, the social conservatives. Because Congressman Ryan is a certifiable right winger," David Axelrod said on CBS Monday.

"I saw that excitement four years ago when John McCain appointed Sarah Palin as well," Axelrod continued. "There were huge crowds, much of the same kind of reaction. I don't think it worked out very well. When the reality catches up with the moment, it's not going to be a plus for Gov. Romney."

Palin herself had little to say to her 2012 counterpart in a statement Sunday, released nearly twelve hours after Mitt Romney made his running mate announcement.

"Congratulations to Mitt Romney on his choice of Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate," Palin wrote in the statement, which mentioned Romney's name only four times and Ryan's name only three out of over 1,100 words. The statement was posted on her Facebook page.

Palin – then largely unknown outside of her home state of Alaska - was named to the GOP ticket in August 2008. While met initially with adoring crowds, she subsequently stumbled in interviews and on the stump.

On Sunday, Axelrod hammered Ryan as a "right wing ideologue" on CNN's "State of the Union," telling Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley that his ideas on the budget and social issues were well outside the American mainstream.

"He's quite extreme. A good person, a genial person, but his views are quite harsh," Axelrod said.

The Wall Street Journal picked Alfalfa Ryan for Mitt the twit. Now right wing social engineering is front and center.
Americans want Mitt the twit's tax returns.

For you imbeciles claiming that Democrats in congress cuased the republicon/ bush depression – seriously? Are you high or just completely unaware of anything? Democrats took the house, had a 49-49-2 split in the senate. Democrats had a sum total of ZERO influence over policy starting in 2007. Democrats uder Speaker Pelosi passed their entire agenda in the first 100 hours of taking office. Then nothing happened. The ONLY thing of substance that got through the split senate (pubbies were already begining their tactic of abusing the filibuster) and the veto pen of dubya was the first increase in the minimum wage in a decade.
So no, Democrats did not cause the bush depression. bush did. Just because things happen at the same relative time does not mean there is a causal relationship.
Leaves coming off the trees at the same time football season starts does not mean that falling leaves causes football.

    @No-surprise

"All we will get is a liberial Supreme Court" – we already have a 5-4 right leaning SCOTUS. Unless someone dies or retires, it ain't gonna change bro.

"Higher unemployment" – its been coming down since Obama stemmed the 700,000 jobs a month loss with the stimulus, for a while, and will likely stay the way it is until after the election.

"Bankrupt businesses" – this has nothing to do with Obama policies and is a result of the long term effect of failed trickle-down fiscal approach taken by Dubya's "regime".

"Over burden tax plans" – we have the lowest tax rates in history. That was sold to the sheeple/leemings as being good for creating jobs.. See where that got us.. lowest tax, no jobs. But Ryan's plan will fix all that and give you a 20% tax cut that is UNFUNDED. NO taxes, no revenue bubba. Economics 101.

"More government run bail outs and unfunded government departments" – if the GOP would pass the Farm Bill, the Jobs bills and actually DO something in DC, we could make some progress. Again, some issue as before.

"Unions running everything" – NEWSFLASH – less than 12% of working Americans are unionized. They don't run everything. This is typical Repug tr_ash talk and completely inaccurate.

"Elderly without health care" – ACA fixed that issue, but because it came from Obama it's bad. The GOP wants to voucher or privatize the system to wall street can raid the last untapped mass of US treasury reserves !!

"Welfare debit cards and Food Stamp debit cards the new normal" – they have always been there.

"Otherwise, it will be great living in Greece, I mean America." – What you neocon nuts don't get is that Greece is where it is today BECAUSE of conservative rule and supply-side, trickle-down fiscal policies. Yet, you seem hell bent on takeing us there with these hair-brained, half-baked, feel good ideas..

Regarding the GOP meme that Obamacare "wages war on religion" by covering contraceptives:

    – Obamacare specifically exempts houses of worship and religious nonprofits from offering birth control
    – The rule regarding contraceptives closely mirrors a measure included in Romneycare

BTW, Romneycare (Massachusett's "Commonwealth Care") provided access to publicly-financed contraception. To this day, it offers subsidized, low or no-cost insurance to low-income residents, as well as providing primary and preventive care (including family planning services and prescription contraceptives).

In 2005, Mittens signed a bill that expanded the number of people who get family-planning services, including the "morning-after" pill.

Most important, Mittens directed the Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services to REQUIRE Catholic hospitals to issue the morning after pill to rape victims.

@No-surprise: Greece has a very limited economy; basically tourism, merchant shipping and agriculture. They also have a rampant problem with tax evasion.

The US has an extremely diverse – and much, much larger – economy than Greece. Comparing the two is apples and oranges.

You'd know this if you'd just unplug from Fox and Limbaugh.

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice

See, I told you I wasn't serious about this whole 'run for president' thing. Why mess up the recovery by winning?

  8. Really?

Good! Like Palin or hate her, even SHE would have been a better VP (or even President) than our current occupier!
Romney/Ryan will be soooooo much better than our current debacle.

    @Cayman Islands

Silly you. You're expecting republicons to think?

Hey Mitt!! We want to see your tax returns for the last 20 years to see the percentage you paid. We also want to know how many off-shore jobs you created and how much money you have in off-shore accounts evading taxes. Put up or shut up Mitt!!!!!

@85 Days until Obama is RE-ELECTED

The Dems are loving this... they can't wait to tear apart the Ryan tax plan. Luckily, the majority of Americans see thru the rhetoric and propaganda coming from the right.

The Grand Obstructionist Party and it's Teapug contingent FAIL miserably in following their own fiscal responsibility ideology. In true GOBP fashion, the 20% tax cut is UNFUNDED and will add $1.5 TRILLION to the deficit in YEAR ONE !! Deficits don't matter, remember. Let someone else pay for it.

Three times in the last 100 yrs, the Dems have had to resuscitate the American economy after the Conservatives ran it into the ground – as they have done with Greece's economy. The last time was after the Great Depression. Now Obama has had to do it again. We're not done yet. There is work to be done, but it cannot occur with the current GOP stalemate in DC.
