Devo off the leash: 'Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro'

(CNN) – Seamus, the now infamous Romney family dog from the 1980s, was again in the spotlight on Tuesday, off-handedly referenced by President Obama on the campaign trail and the subject of a soon-to-be released punk rock song.

Devo, the punk rock band famous for it's hit "Whip It ," will release a song later this month titled, "Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro (Remember Seamus)."

Rolling Stone first reported the track's release.

Mitt Romney told the story of strapping Seamus' kennel–with Seamus inside–to the roof of a station wagon for a family road trip from Massachusetts to Ontario in the 1980s. The car packed with Romney and his wife, Ann, and their five boys had no room for the dog who Romney said actually enjoyed the ride on the roof. Critics and animal rights activists soon ran with the story.

Tuesday, President Obama invoked his opponent's pooch's wind-swept ride while campaigning in the battleground state of Iowa and referencing a speech Romney gave a few months ago.

Obama said, "That's what he said about wind power: 'You can't drive a car with a windmill on it.' I don't know if he's actually tried that. I know he's had other things on his car."

The large crowd laughed, apparently picking up on the jab.

Devo founder and commercial director, Gerald V. Casale, is a major proponent of the late Seamus, even starting a 'Remember Seamus campaign' aimed to "go off leash by choosing a non-human as the most important political figure of this election. Make 2012 the year where animals like Seamus are valued and honestly praised," according to the campaign's website.

Recently, a series of parody songs hitting both sides of the political aisle have gone viral on the internet as the campaign season gets into full swing. The latest, "Romney Girl" harps on a certain presumptive GOP nominee for his wealth while a recast of the chart-topping hit "Somebody That I Used To Know," points to what it calls a disappointing first term for Obama as president.

It looks like Obama will be as wicked as he can on his way out. That's too bad.
I'm sure the American people would rather have him spend his time talking about what happened over the past 3 1/2 years or what his great new plans to do better are.

David Letterman has given a lot of attention to Mr. Romney and the dog on the roof of the car. The question is why did Mr, Romney talk about his dog riding on the roof? Was it supposed to make him look like a regular guy?

ha ha ha ha ha - my daughter still remembers that, and she was just a kid. To this day, she (and the rest of her extended family) vote dem. We ALL vote dem.

If you will mistreat an animal in this country, you will mistreat humans.

*(I know I know - a lot of our veterans have also had dog meat served to them in Korea and other parts of the world – I've never been there but some buddies say it is seasoned so you don't even know it – just not a part of American culture tho). But hey - some countries won't eat beef – they go "yuck" or "ooh" – because the cows are sacred. Different cultures do different things. Get used to it, they are NOT going to die or go away because of republican HATE.

Way to go, Obama. Dig back into the '80s and attack Romney on being absent minded with his dog. There's a winning campaign strategy if I ever heard one. Don't forget about the time he overfed his goldfish when he was 8 and it died. The stink of desperation has engulfed the entire Obama campaign, to the point that the only "issues" they are willing to discuss are the lies and distortions that they make up about Romney and now Ryan. Let's discuss your track record for the last 3-1/2 years, Mr. President, and then we'd really have a good laugh, if it wasn't so painful and pathetic!

God, it just seems so childish. I like a good joke, but this one has been beaten to death. C'mon, Obama, I voted for you because you were mature.

Don't forget what Obama said four years ago. You really do make a big election about small things, especially if you have a shoddy record.

Better to have the dog on the roof than on the roof of Obama's mouth. He ate dog? How gross.

This issue will be dogging Romney throughout the election. Be consistent CNN since you enjoy using the word "dogging".
Since Rafalca didn't win gold, roof transport may be in its future soon, too.

The Obama campaign, the DNC, pro-Obama superPACs, they all have nothing to do with the song. It's called freedom of speech, pal. You should support it, not criticize it. Should I blame Mitt Romney for the stuff you say?

@ Jerry, now you are trying to think for black people, which you know nothing about except what fox news tells you and the propoganda that you see on TV. I bet you think all black people are like the ones you see in the tarzan movies. Grow up. It was okay for you to call President Obama a monkey, socialist, unamerican, Hitler, called his wife ugly, food stamp president, which is a racial slur against blacks even though there are more whites on the government roll. and we are suppose to go along to get along. You are such a hypocrit. There is no party more racist than the republican/tea party clan. Obama and Biden have it right and they should not apologize for it. Romneyhood needs to show those tax returns and you need to be looking for another candidate before the convention, because Romney is not the one. Your party is so full of hatred it is not funny. You think people do not understand the little codes that you say over the airwaves daily to your tea party base? Get a grip on reality. No one wants to go back to the dark ages, but you republican/tea party clowns.

    @Four and the Door

Haven't you been saying for months that Obama's run will soon be over "when the health care legislation is repealed?" Perhaps you haven't notice that the highest court in the land has upheld the law because it is constitutional. And likewise, all your right wing babble will soon be out the door on election day. Obama/Biden/Roberts 2012!
