Romney assails Obama as "intellectually exhausted"

Chillicothe, Ohio (CNN) – Mitt Romney looked to seize the offensive in his campaign against President Barack Obama Tuesday night with a hard-charging and sustained attack on the president’s leadership.

Calling Obama “intellectually exhausted,” Romney charged his rival had made “wild and reckless accusations that disgrace the office of the presidency” and failed to live up to the promises he made as a candidate in 2008.

“Another outrageous charge just came a few hours ago in Virginia,” Romney said of Vice President Biden’s warning that Romney would put them “back in chains.”

“And the White House sinks a little bit lower,” he said.

Romney’s speech on the streets of downtown Chillicothe – the last event on his swing-state bus tour – was elaborately produced. The campaign blocked off several city blocks and hung a giant flag behind the site where Romney would emerge from his campaign bus to be greeted by throngs of supporters waving signs and flags.

On-stage, Romney cast himself as a patriot who would return America to its heyday of prosperity.

“Everywhere I go in America there are monuments that list those who have given their lives for liberty,” Romney said. “There is no mention of their race, their party affiliation or what they did for a living. They lived and died under a single flag fighting for a single purpose. They pledged allegiance to the United States of America.”

Romney continued: “So Mr. President, take your campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago and let us get about rebuilding and reuniting America.”

The speech came as Romney’s campaign released a TV ad attacking Obama on Medicare – a hot-button issue Democrats have aimed to wield against Romney after he chose Paul Ryan as his running mate. Ryan authored a controversial plan in the House to reshape Medicare for those under age 55.

A spokesman for the Obama campaign immediately fired back at Romney's speech, in another sign the Romney-Obama battle was quickly turning more negative.

“Gov. Romney’s comments tonight seemed unhinged, and particularly strange coming at a time when he’s pouring tens of millions of dollars into negative ads that are demonstrably false,” said Obama campaign Press Secretary Ben LaBolt.

  2. Really?

Anyone who doesn't see that Obama has been accomplishing just what he set out to do needs to do a reality check. In order to convince people who have enjoyed over 200 years of freedom that collectivism is a good idea you need to keep the economy in shambles long enough for people to lose hope and go for the throats of the achievers. Divide and conquer is the name of O's game. (And some of you folks thought he wasn't accomplishing anything.)

I'm just glad to see the Democrats fighting back after four years of taking it from the GOP bullies. We all know that you have to stand up to bullies.

On the night Obama's inauguration Newt Gingrich, Paul Ryan and other top Republicans met and agreed that they would do everything they could in their power to make Obama a 1 term president by blocking every jobs bill that he proposed. Ryan has voted NO to every bill that has been put up for a vote. Paul Ryan voted for all tax breaks for the rich and stimulus package when Bush was President. You can go to MSNbc's Politic Nation with Al Sarpton and you will newt Gingrich admit to there meeting. Millions of Americans have surfed because of Paul Ryan

George Romney resisted releasing a single year of taxes, arguing that
it wouldn't present an accurate picture...but then he made a surprising
offer: He would release the past 12 years of tax returns...That way, it
    wouldn't look like a stunt

You better get out your Kevlar underwear, Mitt. Your pants are on fire. Let's ask your Republican primary opponents just how low YOU will go, shall we? You are noting but a parasite!

"Intellectually exhausted"? The "new" Republican philosophy is older than dirt. "The self-made man." The "rags-to-riches" Horatio Alger stories (for boys only.) "Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps" (from when men actually wore boots to work.) All of these expressions come from the 1800s. If hard work was really all it takes to make a decent living, slaves would have all become millionaires. No, it DOES take laws to make the playing field level, protect bank depositors, borrowers and small stock investors, subsidies for higher education and affordable health care so you CAN work hard, unions and wage/hour laws to protect the interests of workers. In a so-called "global economy" the middle class needs big government more than ever or we will see our standard of living decline to match that of the Chinese and Indian workers.

This, coming from the party that has been operating from the same flawed, failed premises for over 30 years? That's a hoot. Where are their ideas-oh, that's right, they don't have ideas, other than an abdication of their responsibility to govern, all courtesy of Governor Etch-a Sketch and his deputy, Mr. Right-wing social engineer. Nothing like deliberately destabilizing the economy so they can clean up and outsource what'e left.

Disgusting–coming from a man who didn't have the courage to serve, and uses his wealth to cover his own moral bankruptcy. The more Romney speaks the uglier he becomes.

Romney forgot the part where, as a patriot, he took multiple deferments and went on his mission to France during the Viet Nam conflict. France!?!

Romney calling the President "intelectually exhausted" is a real "newlow" to use Romney's own words and those of his campaign. It also points to his double standards and hypocratic behavior. He himself tells lies about Obama and his poistions and then cries foul when he is called upon his positions. There is no secret that Romney and his republican friends do not care for the middle and poor classes. They are only If not, let, Ryan and his republican friends answer questions like the following: What are their plans for the healthcare insurance of 40+ million unisured and what they propose to provide them healthcare? What are their plans to educate those who can't afford education? What are their plans to rebuild the decaying infrastructure of USA? What are their plans to become energy independent and clean the environment? How do they intend to support the middle class and poors while giving tax credits to rich people? How can claim to help poor and middle class when they increase their taxes and cut the budgets that support poor and middle classes? The fact is that they do not want to answer such questions because then their true identity will be revealed. Hence their hypocracy. Because of these facts, it is Romney whoo has reached the "new low" and should not be in WH. Therefore, we will make sure that he does not win the election. Let us vote all republicans out of office in November. Vote all democratic in November.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows Mitt Romney attracting support from 47% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns the vote from 44%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

This is the first daily update based entirely upon interviews conducted after Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan was introduced as Mitt Romney’s running mate on Saturday.

Are you kidding me? A man who ran the most negative campaign in recent memory against his GOP rivals? If anyone is intellectually exhausted is a man who cannot answer a straight question honestly, lies about Obama and his views on Welfare and Medicare. Romney is a "used car salesman", when he speaks I keep thinking "phony". He seems to be getting desperate, now he has to attack Obama's intellect.

CNN seems to be leaning to Romney, carry his stories quickly.

"They pledged allegiance to the United States of America". While, on the other hand, Mitt Romney pledged allegiance to Grover Norquist and the almighty dollar. And hid in France so his rich butt wouldn't get shot at. I really don't know how the man can sleep at night....

I believe the chains that Biden was talking about it in the way that all of those people would be chained to poor jobs or poverty with little to no way to get ahead.

  21. Republican who supports President Obama

Compared to the people he aligns himself with I question Willard's judgement. I classify him as a school yard crybaby and not worthy of the Office of President. If he wanted to display his intellect he would come out and disavow the Tea-party, Rush, birthers, and protecting the rich from paying their fair share of the progressive tax they are supposed to pay.

Crazy fool!!! Is he serious? He, Romney is the one spewing division, hatred and subtle racism too – from the very beginning. A very desperate man who realize this is his last chance after 6 years of campaigning. And quite frankly, he sounds unhinged
