Obama, Romney open up about their faith in a church magazine

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney have opened up about their religious faith to an unlikely source: Cathedral Age, the quarterly magazine of the Washington National Cathedral.

The interviews mark a rare instance of Romney talking about Mormonism, while Obama discusses his Christian faith in detail, referencing favorite Christian writers and Bible verses.

It makes some sense because there hasn't been a president that was either an agnostic or aethist elected. Most people either like their candidate/president to have a religious perspective. Theorectically, it should make them somewhat humble knowing that they aren't the most powerful being around.

INFANTICIDE & the constant underhanded plotting against Israel do not match up with the Christian faith. Only God will be asking the questions in the end but I know I would not want to answer questions about killing babies. We cannot know another man’s heart but his actions should be a reflection of his faith. Perfection is not feasible but basic standards are....

This has got to make the religous right sick. The guy who they so badly want to believe is different than them talking their language, and the guy they are stuck with publicly talking about how he really isn't one of them.

"There isn't anyone person on this globe that know more about my religion than me, so why would I want a religion written by those that were here before me, to ever rune my life?? I could write all my beliefs in todays language, but I wouldn't want anyone else to get my religion. It belongs to me!!!"

Yes, I'm sure Obama clings to his bible and leftist ideology that uses it quite well when it can, then discards it when ideology requires it to be.

For me religion is similiar to politics in the aspect of the more I realistically scrutinize them the less affiliated I have become. Growing up I was a christian democrat, now I'm an atheist independent.

I want a president who is honest, moral and ethical. How they derive that, either from a religious faith or sense of compassion or simply because they are a decent person, makes no difference to me.

Talk is cheap. I've known and known of so many so-called "religious" folks (usually fundamentalists of all stripes) who use their professed faith as an excuse for their bad behavior – including putting money and power ahead of people every time.

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice

So... he's a christian, but doesn't let his religion influence him during decision making for all Americans. That's bad because?

Are you referring to Mittens making money while with Bain Capital from Stericycle, a medical-waste company that helps to dispose of aborted fetuses?

Funny how Obama never mentions which Christian faith he believes in. It does not matter either way though, religion should stay out of the White House!!!!!! What faith they believe in on their own time it their business

Faith is not relevant in this election to most Americans. These are answers written or directed by each candidate’s religious liaison to appeal to the electorate which is not insightful or helpful. In the end this election will be about what they have accomplished and their plans for our future..

at least the president is a christian. Mormon ism is not a christian faith Mr independent. The trinity is the basis for christianity. Mormonism does not believe in the trinity. So mr independent what are to talking about.? women are on the same plain in christianity and will go to the same heaven unlike the mormon religion where we have different levels for women.

Jesus Christ preached a Gospel of helping the poor and the sick. How does GOP ideology relate to that? Also, remember Mitt, how difficult it is for a rich man to pass through the eye of the needle.

What Romney doesn't want you to know, is that the Book of Mormon, published in 1830, 180 years ago, is the foundation on which their church is built. In this book, 2nd. Nephi, chapter 5, verses 20-24, page 66, declars a very raceist doctrin, against the black race. It says that they were cursed with black skin, and an idle people, full of mischief, and subtlety. This book, since 1880 has had different printings, and have had many oppertunities to change these verses clean up to the present time, they have not ! Why? This is a question that Romney does not want to answer. Let me answer it for him. To change these verses, would call their prophet, Joseph Smith, a false prophet, therefore destroying the Mormon Church. So, as long as there are Mormons, according to them, the black race will always be cursed bt God!

"INFANTICIDE & the constant underhanded plotting against Israel do not match up with the Christian faith"

    Plotting against Israel?

Ehud Barak, Israel's Minister of Defense and former Prime Minister, sang Obama's praises and stated that he's done more than any president he's seen in the past several decades to help Israel's security. Please remove your tinfoil hat. There are no elephants in the strawberry patch, I assure you.
