Todd Akin gets online fundraising boost

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - Boosted by a fund-raising appeal from Mike Huckabee, embattled Senate candidate Todd Akin has raised $206,000 online since his "legitimate rape" comment inflamed the political universe last Sunday.

Akin's web consultant Wesley Donehue told CNN that the donations came from 3,300 unique contributors online, and did not include checks that are "pouring in" to the campaign.

Donehue, who helped South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson raise an ocean of online cash after the infamous "You Lie!" flap of 2009, said the money is "a signal that grassroots supporters want him to stay in the race."

A late Thursday email blast from Huckabee urging conservatives to donate to Akin's campaign has sparked a "dramatic uptick" in donations, Donehue told CNN.

Akin just may pull it off and surprise everyone, including the Dims.

Let me guess, you still have your 'Clayton Williams for Governor" bumper sticker on your pickup?

"Rape is like the weather: if you can't do anything about it, just lie back and enjoy it." -Clayton Williams, GOP candidate for governor in TX, 1990.

Its clear you condone what has been universally rejected, except by the Neanderthal element of the GOP. Idiot.

But yet Akin has lost millions , I am talking $$$$$. Chump change contributions is what this man is pulling in. Considering that many mainstream Republicans and Tea Party affiliates are not wasting thier time on this man speaks volumes. Not to mention the fact that many of us Independents are going to write this man off, and any other candidates that want to play the God card this year.

Who will be voting for this guy? Uneducated rednecks and women long out of child-bearing age. Same goes for his donors.

Social conservatives are starting to divide the GOP.
Not that I am going to lose any sleep over this matter.

Social conservatives have long strangled, not only divided, the GOP. You know it's bad when Barry Goldwater says he and Bob Dole are considered leftists by the party they formerly knew.

    A freakshow, nothing else.

Myviews, come on. ALL religions have that side of their platform. Ask Ryan who is a Catholic. The Catholics go just beyond no abortion to no birth control extremes. Let's review Jehovah Witnesses, lots of things like science and God's will, no medical intervention at all, so out go the abortion and birth control matters too. Lots of Religions have that, holy rollers, very strict evangelicals. Amish and Quaker beliefs. Get off your door to door pamphlets hanging on your door knob and get acquainted with religion period. Since you are also a person who has lived elsewhere there are MANY MORE religions who will kill the woman who becomes deflowered. When Joseph and Mary were around, they were not married, and Mary was with child. You get that they could have stoned her to death for that one.

Horrors have been known to happen. This science class absentee may even win handily. Who the heck knows? One would hope he does not.

It is beyond me that anyone would support this neanderthal. After what he said about women..I wonder if any women sent him any money....Chances are they are neanderthal men who believe in this bullcrap!!!

  9. View from my study

Bill Clinton was a notorious womanizer and was accused of rape. The Democrats stood behind Clinton and he is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at their 2012 convention. As far as I can determine Todd Akin has always been an honorable man. I stand behind him rather than the Republican establishment that has abandoned him.

Good Lord. My party has fallen into utter shambles. This nitwit is a prime example why we need to clear these people from the Republican party and start from ground zero. Maybe I'll just have to go Democrat this year . . .

No, of course not. If I asked them something like that they would think that I had lost my little piece of mind.

I like the guys tenacity and the fact he won't be pushed around. I'm glad he is staying in the race. He can still beat McCaskill no problem. She is the worst.

Akin is on a roll, ready and I guess he had his carrot juice
He has energy, he's wild and refuses to allow his party to make him a clown
Hmm, now I wonder if the Republicans have regrets for so quickly shooting him down????

The GOP should be ashamed of itself for throwing REAL conservatives like Goldwater under the bus. Things are finally coming around full circle, now the GOP can reap what it sowed.

@Jason. Going democratic may be not a bad idea. If republicans loose big this elections I am sure the purge of radicals will happen.
