(CNN) – The University of Virginia declined a request by President Barack Obama's campaign to hold a speaking event at the university while campaigning in Charlottesville Wednesday, according to CNN affiliate WVIR.
According to a statement by UVA spokeswoman Carol Wood obtained by the Charlottesville station, the university denied the request to use either the McIntire Amphitheater or the Harrison-Small Library plaza because the use of the locations would require closing buildings surround the site for the entire day, causing disruption to class schedules.

To host the president would require cancellation of 186 classes, which "would result in an extraordinary disruption of the second day of the new semester," Wood said in the statement.
Wood wrote that the university would also have to bear the full cost of the event, including event staffing, and, by requirements for both federal and state tax-exempt status, the university would have to provide the same opportunity for other candidates.
The White House released a schedule Friday showing the president will campaign in Charlottesville on Wednesday.
WVIR reported that the university offered the campaign the university's John Paul Jones Arena, but were told it "was not academic enough" by the Obama for America campaign, according to the UVA Communications Office.
Details on an alternative event location are unclear.
CNN reached out to the Obama campaign and the university but did not receive immediate responses.
He has already disrupted a whole country whats a few classes.
FACT CHECK CNN – since you like to ONLY fact check President Obama – Once again your header is misleading – UVA did offer another hall and the campaign decided not to take it because of reasons of their own.
When are we going to see FACT CHECKS on Romney???
Obama 2012 – The Only Trusted Way Forward!!
Who wants to host a loser?
If it had been someone else (Bush or Romney )that asked first this wouldn't be an issue.
1st Romney criticizes Obama on the comment about business doing well, then he himself says close to the same thing.
2nd Now Romney has joined the birther party.
3rd now R/R have amended their health care plan. What, the original wasn't correct?
Question on the voucher: does this mean you no longer have to look for a doctor that will except medicare? They can charge what they want? Cost increase here we come. That is not going to lower health costs. The voucher is to help pay for private health insurance. As we all know the premiums for reasonable insurance is high. Also insurances WILL NOT cover pre-existing conditions... therefore the vouchers are useless... especially for the elderly that usually have pre-existing conditions.
That's education for you. And not for me.
Good to see UVa not continue spending further public funds to help Obama continue his deficit spending that will eventually ruin our economy. A rarional decision on education and practical living over politics.
Yeah presidential visits do actually disrupt a lot. Obama's caravan passed through Boone, NC where I go to college. They shut down the main roads for several hours and the buses couldn't run. Not a fan of Obama, but he did get me out of an exam that day, and for that I say thank you.
I wonder if the same would apply if MIttens had requested time/space. It is hard to know these days.
I don"t blame the university. How many towns are owed money by his campaign for the added security?
I hope they give the Romney/Ryan campaign the same courtesy!!!!
UVA is a bad egg:-(
"It was not academic enough"? Really? LMFAO!
OBAMA12, and direct democratic ticker. Period.
Could that be because it is a tossup state? When the President speaks, people get informed; when the GOP comes around they get deceived!

The words arrogant and presumptuous come to mind. Bravo, Mr. President.
Crazy. If Mitty is elected he'll cancel more than 186 classes permanently. And that will result more than chaos.
Yeah Right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
