First on CNN: Sheldon and Miriam Adelson coming to Republican Convention

Tampa, Florida (CNN) Nevada billionaire and Republican donor Sheldon Adelson and his wife, Miriam, are getting ready to create more political buzz. They have decided to attend this week’s Republican convention, CNN has learned.

They are expected to arrive in Tampa on Monday, one source with knowledge of their plans told CNN, and will undoubtedly draw a lot of attention.

The couple will take in much of the convention activity and are expected to listen to many of the speeches, especially ones by Mitt and Ann Romney.

Another possible stop for them is the “Woman Up!” Pavilion here in Tampa named in honor of Miriam Adelson. The pavilion will be the scene for a series of events and policy discussions this week and is sponsored by the YG Network, a non-profit organization aimed at supporting conservative political positions and those politicians who support them. The Woman Up! effort was launched to emphasize issues key to women.

“Dr. Adelson is a passionate and successful woman who has balanced work and family life remarkably, and we are honored to welcome her to this effort,” Mary Anne Carter, executive director of the YG Network's 'Woman Up!" effort, said in a statement last week. “A renowned medical doctor, Miriam Adelson’s experiences in the Israeli Army, as a working mom, and a philanthropist equip her with a unique understanding of the challenges that women from all walks of life face.”

The Adelsons have donated $5 million to the YG Action Fund, a super PAC founded by the same former aides to Eric Cantor who founded the YG Network.

Every move by Adelson, a major casino magnate and of one of the richest men in America, draws intense interest both because of his wealth and influence.

Together Sheldon and Miriam Adelson have given at least $36 million to various organizations and candidates this campaign season according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks the influence of money in politics. Their donations to super PACs, including $15 million to Winning Our Future which backed Newt Gingrich and helped to keep his candidacy alive and $10 million to Restore Our Future, the main super PAC supporting Romney, is what especially drew a lot of focus. Adelson, one of whose main priorities is support Israel and protect its future, travelled there to attend a speech and fundraiser of Romney’s during his trip there last month helping to cement his support for Romney.

While the couple’s donations to super PACs are disclosed, Adelson has said some of his political activity may also be made to non-profit groups which don’t have to disclose their contributors. Several of these organizations are hoping for sizable gifts from the couple.

Adelson has told friends he is willing to spend up to $100 million this election season to not only make sure a Republican is elected to the White House but to support GOP congressional candidates.

Dang – I had to turn away from Morning Joe and come to CNN because Joe is going CRAZY!!! All of a sudden he is showing his TRUE COLORS as if he got a jump from Romney now 1% higher than Obama in the polls. I could not stomach him when in the past, I was able to.

The rich few are buying this campaign. Mitt Romney further insults American by making statement that he has followed the minimum requirements by law. He has no clue about what the middle and poor needs

I don't like their money coming into the race. It allows his and his wife too much influence over the candidate and the party.
