Five OMG moments at the RNC

(CNN) - Anyone can turn on a TV, scan their newsfeeds or fire up a laptop to quickly get a sense of the important topics being discussed at the Republican National Convention.

This is not about those. This is for those other moments - the ones that make us SMH or LOL or unfollow certain people on Twitter. These are the moments that prompt us to show our phones to the person next to us, eyes wide with disbelief and mischief. It's not news.

Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker, catch the latest updates from the GOP convention on CNN's 2012 Conventions Live Blog, and check out the CNN Electoral Map and Calculator to game out your own strategy for November.

1. Strange looks

Men and women had plenty to say about Condoleezza Rice's lipstick malfunction on Twitter and Instagram during her Wednesday speech.

"I don't care what their beliefs are I will always feel completely awful for any woman who has lipstick on their teeth in public," wrote Twitter user @Morgan Murphy. Others were not so kind.

"A good friend would have told Condi she had lipstick on her teeth. Where's Ann? Dropping the ball, that's where," wrote @mkusek01060

At least no one created a Twitter account for Condi's Lipstick.

The distraction theme continued as Paul Ryan and his widow's peak took the stage.

"Paul Ryan. The charisma of Edward Kennedy. The widow's peak of Edward Munster," wrote @SteveintheKT

"All you listen to Ryan for his powerful speech, I just stare at his widow's peak," wrote @bey_guy87

On Facebook David Atherton attributed the following to Wikipedia, "In political polling, widow's peaks are considered to be a facial attribute for candidates that is a clear positive ... associated with being seen as more competent and with greater integrity."

2. Making faces

Continuing on the distraction theme were these tweets from co-creator of "The Daily Show," Liz Winstead.

"McCain is doing his blinky thing! The one where he blinks a bunch when he doesn't believe what he is saying," she posted.

"Blab all you want abt Ann Romney's speech- nothing will help if Mitt doesn't lose that 'I have a weird thing on my tongue' face."

This guy thinks he and Paul Ryan look alike.

And in one of the fantastically creepy trends to emerge from the convention delegates snapped photos of themselves wearing paper masks of Paul Ryan and then posted them to Instagram.

3. Bringing sexy back

But before Paul Ryan even opened his mouth Wednesday night, Twitter was already reflecting on Paul Ryan's sex appeal.

@chrissyadeleke Pretty ballsy speech by Paul Ryan. Not gonna lie. I liked it. He makes politics sexy. Because he is sexy.

@cMMoore6 Paul Ryan is sexy. #simple

@sarahcgoldstein Paul Ryan has the most handsome blue eyes. Very sexy.

@Lynzeebug22 Paul Ryan is kinda hot... Sexy vice president. Im down

You get the idea.

4. Elevator music musings

Step into the nearest elevator and what do you hear? Probably the Village Voice furiously typing this tweet after Ryan made a reference to the generation gap between him and Romney based on their music preferences:

@villagevoice Paul Ryan fails to realize that classic rock is pretty much the new elevator music

Comedian @robfee quipped, " 'Haha Paul Ryan has dumb music on his iPod!' – Joe Biden as he duct tapes a Ray Stevens cd to his walkman"

5. Give Santorum a hand?

How many times did Santorum mention #hands during his Tuesday night speech? We stopped counting at 20.

Huffington Post senior editor Craig Kanalley said, "Rick Santorum said #hands 24 times,#Romney 3 times in that speech."

This is proof that it would be a miracle Romney could win with Obama getting so much help abusing, ridiculing, humiliating and being rude to the Republicans, Romney. If Obama doesn't win will all this help, getting what he wanted in Texas, Dream Act, ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, Huffington Post, New York Times, Univision, Telemundo, MTV, CBS, radio stations, Hollywood, Time Magazine, etc.....and I'm sure Obama is not done yet opening ways to win, that would be a miracle. All that Democrat power vs Romney, Republicans, winning is slim to none for Romney.

Guess some in attendance last night were not respectful of John McCain. They were talking and milling around as he spoke. I might disagree with the man but he is a war hero and he was their nominee four years ago. He is still in the Senate and is one of the few who is actually working. He has not shirked his duties nor did he run away and hide. He continued to represent his state in the Senate.

They should really think about what they are doing. Rudeness is not acceptable at any time. Those who can;t sit still and listen should just leave the hall. They are not children even if they act that way.

Number of wars inherited by Obama? 2 and all the debt that came from them.
Number of banks brought down by deregulation in the W administration and left to Obama to clean up the mess? all of them

Obama inherited the problems from the past and has done well to clean them up so far. Having multimillionaires pay 15% on their income while I pay 30+ % is not just republican, it is criminal. And Obama didn't create that situation either.

Why does Ryan feel the need to lie about things? Does it make him feel better about himself? Didn't one of the campaign people say "we are not going to let fact checkers determine this campaign?" Gee, why not just say we'll lie over and over again and soon people will believe it.

President Obama does not lie. He has done nothing but try to help this country and the GOP has done everything can to screw things up. The GOP is willing to bring this country down to smoke and ash rather than let the man govern.

I must admit to some sympathy for the CNN coverage of the RNC. Four years ago they were completely in the tank for Obama and now they keep trying to find a way to discredit the Republican candidates and elevate the President and just have nothing. I watched them last night struggling to roll out so called fact checks to call Paul Ryan a liar that fell apart totally on examiination.

I'm not opposed to the liberal bias of CNN but just tell people that thats the way you approach your coverage and stop pretending.

John McCain served our country in our military, wiped the blood and guts that a few seconds earlier had been his friend off his face, had his leg and arms broken multiple times and was beaten on a daily basis as a POW until he was released. I am sorry you are so bothered by the way he blinks his eyes. Get over yourself.

Did anyone else hear Marco Rubio say "We choose more government, not more freedom" near the end of his speech? Unbelievable!

romney is dukakis. no soul, blows with the wind, dilutes himself to try to appeal to everyone, and just doesnt look like a leader. I wish the GOP could run a guy with guts and character, rather than a milquetoast CEO type. i would vote for him. this whole convention was soulless wonkery without substance or even decent speechwriting. a vote for romney is simply a vote against the worse guy. how sad that this is all we have to choose from in this supposed great nation

Yes I think Marco Rubio got all excited and mixed up ... he meant it the other way around. He wasn't the only only confused on stage tonight, Clint Eastwood was quite something. However, as an indepedent, undecided voter (who voted for Obama 4 years ago), I have to say the republicans (mainly Romney and Ryan) did a good job of influencing this undecided voter. I now await next week and the debates still though.
