Obama alters campaign trip to travel to hurricane zone

(CNN) - President Barack Obama plans to go to Louisiana on Monday to meet with officials handling the response to Hurricane Isaac, which made landfall this week, the White House said Friday.

According to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, the president canceled a campaign trip to Cleveland, Ohio in order to make the Gulf Coast visit. He will travel from Toledo, Ohio to Louisiana.

The announcement came hours after Mitt Romney's campaign announced the GOP presidential nominee was canceling a trip to Virginia Friday in order to fly to Louisiana and survey the storm damage.

Why? Because Romney is going there? What a poser. Remember when Bush "only" flew over NO? The liberal media complex lets obama get away with murder.

  4. WILLARD MILTON ROMNEY IS A COWARD & TAX EVADER

Leading from behind? I don't think so. Where was Willard Capone after Joplin? Where was he after the Colorado wildfires? He was running for office then. *crickets*

Romney has no business going. He holds no offical office and what help can he provide anyway. Its just a poto-op for him to make him look less like a robot.

Obama is only going to Louisiana because Romney is going.

The last thing on Obama's mind was whether he beat Romney to the punch.

ok Romney is "touring" the area today. Hell I can tour the area, just what else is he going to do. Now if he were to send his five sons out there to help rebuild it, use his OWN money not the government's to do so then he can finally honestly say "WE BUILT THAT" other than that going there hugging people getting your base riled up like some that are posting the nonsense here that they are is doing nothing but politics.

    @ Independent Voter

    Totally agree.

    @ ria

The President has a country to run AND is trying to get re-elected. His appearances/schedule changes involve tons of logistics. Unlike the other guy who has nothing but time on his hands and is pretty flexible to make photo ops on a whim. Nice try though.

This was a natural disaster. Mitt Romney's going to show the people his support. President Obama is going to show the people his support. The people down there could use it. Good for BOTH of them. What the H is wrong with all of you?

Obama already made it clear that his going to the area would be too disruptive to local efforts. Apparently, Romney didn't think of that, or considered his campaign more important. Obama figured he might as well go now that Romney and his enterage will go get in the way of the locals doing their work.

    Hey Tax Evader,
You do realize that Romney announced he was going to be there TODAY, before obama announced he was going there monday.

I wonder if he will be on the ground getting in the way of efforts to help those effected by the storm, or will he just fly over to see the damage.

Jindal back stabs the President again. Presidents don't go to disaster areas until the Governors gives them the OK or request their visist. I'll bet Jindal told Obama it was not neccessary for him to come so soon, while arranging for Romney to come and upstage the President.

So, horrific selfish RICH people who never ever have known want, hunger need and who hate and loath the poor, the non-rich white, and who have done everything legal and illegal to disenfranchise, and stop the vote of the poor and god forbid brown skinned are tellling us to vote for them? So that they can raise our taxes, take our security net, hurt the poor, rape the environment and continue on their world dominating way. Screw them. They are hateful liars, period.

Oh and JUST how many truck loads of food did it take to feed that porice ass Christie anyway... Yes, I hate them just as much as I will never have 250 million like that ass Romney NOR do I ever deserve and or need that while others starve and the world burns and they obstruct and lie.

The president always provides support to places hit by natural disasters. Unlike "unemployed" Mitt Romney, the president has a job to do and does not feel the need to advertise first every time he provides support.

This is why our political system is sooooo screwed up! Who cares who went first, who cares who went second, BOTH shouldn't use this or any other disaster for political gain. Our elections process is now like a TMZ show. Just bc Romney is the first to get his picture taken with Gov. Jindal doesn't mean he "cares" more about the people and the same would hold true about the President. And just bc Romney is down there getting his picture taken, doesn't mean the President should follow. Campaigns should be about ideas, NOT airline miles!!!
