(CNN) - Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will travel to Lafitte, Louisiana Friday to view storm damage from Hurricane Isaac after his joint morning event with Paul Ryan in Lakeland, Florida, according to his campaign.
Romney will join Gov. Bobby Jindal and meet with first responders to thank them for their work, as well as see areas affected by the storm in Lafitte.
Romney's campaign said Jindal invited the nominee for part of the governor's already-planned schedule to help raise awareness of the damage for people who need help and donations.
Lafitte is located just south of New Orleans and experienced heavy floods from the Category 1 hurricane that tore through the area on Tuesday.
Romney, who accepted his party's nomination for president Thursday night, has canceled his campaign appearance at an event in Richmond, Virginia later Friday, but will still be at the morning rally with Ryan in Florida. Ryan, meanwhile, will continue on to Richmond.
After taking a break from Tampa to speak in Indianapolis Wednesday at the American Legion convention, Romney made a joke, then expressed concern about the storm.
"I appreciate this invitation to join you on dry land this afternoon," he said, drawing laughs. "Our thoughts are, of course, with the people of the Gulf Coast states. Seven years ago today, they were bracing for Hurricane Katrina. This afternoon they are enduring Isaac."
He continued: "We're grateful that it appears Isaac will spare them from the kind of damage we saw during Katrina, but for many in the Gulf Coast who just finished repairing their homes and are getting a life back to normal, this must be a heavy burden. So today our thoughts are with them, our prayers go out to them, and our country must do all we can to help them recover."

There is only one president at a time.
Looking forward to casting my vote come November to show this clown he IS NOT and will NEVER BE POTUS. No one wants you to come "survey the area." You have no authority to do anything.
maybe he can cheer them up and tell them how they should borrow money from their parents to rebuild
Wow, good thing he is going to come down and use this for his own political gain.
That is more than odopey has done!...this is a real leader...
and just what could Mitt do about it unless he's going to dig into his deep pockets and offer some help. They are going to wind up asking the "big government" that they scorn all the time and President Obama for aid from FEMA. And they will get help indeed. If it's not what they think will be enough help then they will complain about it. Ironic ain't it?
Why didn't he start off with that in the National spotlight last night. Not one mention to the 44M that tuned in to probably hear him for the first time. Sad, that he couldn't take the opportunity to send prayers to the million people wading in the water in the Gulf. Missed opportunity.
If Romney wants to help instead of grandstand, here's a couple of things he can do:
1. Put on some boots, shut his mouth and help clear debris.
2. Open up some those offshore accounts and personally hand people checks to help pay for the damage (he'll still be rich enough afterwards)
3. Present a plan on how to continue to fund/properly structure national emergency issues so that there is less red tape, and more coordinated/timely action to disasters
If he can't do those things, then he should campaign in another state and let the real President (who will be re-elected in 2013 anyway) take care of business
Obama/Biden/E.Warren 2012
Romney is going to Louisiana to look for damaged business he can buy cheap, broker a deal for investors to buy it for a high price, get his usual huge commission and profits, then close the business because he bankrupted it.
Meanwhile, Romney will pay 13% or less income taxes on money he does not shift to other countries.
That's why he is going.
Maybe he can tell them about how over paid they are, and how he plans to cut their pay so he can keep his tax cuts. Romney's slogan should be: Ask not what you can do for your country, ask why should I. Draft Dodger's should not be allowed to hold office, especially as commander in chief.
Where is the President today? He is heading to Texas for a photo op with military families. I am glad we will have a real leader that will be in Washington the next 4 years, not Obama..
Romneu could not care less about the flooding. It is a token measure on his part. Romneyhood .......... Give to the Rich take from the poor
Wow Mitt is going to the Gulf Coast and Oblamo is going to Texas.....
So what? Who cares if he tours the damage? He's not the president. Steven Tyler would be more compassionate.
why...he is NOT the President
It's OK Mitt, President Obama has this in hand!
Really? He never even acknowledged the Hurricane or the danger or damage it was wreaking on 3 states while he stood and lied about everything from caring about seniors to the most disgusting lie about helping the poor – since his and Ryan's economic plan is to KILL Medicare and Social Security and end ALL programs for the poor including food stamps and even hot school lunches for poor children. There is NOTHING in his plans for anything for PEOPLE. ALL money and attention is going to corporations who have bought him and plan to use him to create corporate dictatorships that pay no taxes, have no regulations on them and even end the minimum wage and OSHA requirements for worker safety rules. He is no leader and just a rich liar.
Why? he is not the president, he cannot declare diasater areas, photo op plain and simple. What a clown.
Perhaps he will donate several million from his billions to the people in need in LA? Or will this be another Obama bashing ceremony? Wait, is he acting like a president already? It's so cuuuuute!
Regarding Mitt Flop's trip – Haven't those people suffered enough?
Another photo op. What won't this guy do to win the presidency? By the way wasting secret service time and dollars on his photo. He can do nothing, why is he there?
Bush serveyed the damage by Katrina, 2 days after the storm hit landfall. Obama criticized Bush for a late reponse, yet Obama is nowhere to be found during this storm. Romney is looking more Presidential by the day.
Did Jindahl invite the President or have they already moved beyond that. Shame on them disrespects the country...UGH
Pander pander pander pander flip flop flip flop flip flop pander pander pander.....
Should be interesting to hear the stupid remarks that Mitt will make to the POOR people in the Louisiana ... I guess he is trying to show that he is not Bush... but people will not forget what Bush did or did not do... and I am sure the Mitt will only worry about his rich friends.. and is only going for a photo op.,...
