(CNN) - President Barack Obama has a penchant for using high-profile prayer givers to send messages to the nation.
At his 2009 White House inauguration, Obama called on Pastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation, signaling an attempt to tamp down on the culture wars (Warren is a theologically conservative evangelical who was close to George W. Bush).

It seems that if the Cardinal of NYC gave only to the GOP, then it would seem that he was speaking for the church and endorsing one party over the rest. It would make sense given that there has been a fight between the leadership of the church and the Obama administration. I would hope that there could be many different religious leaders speaking over the course of the conventions.
