Charlotte, North Carolina (CNN) - Bill Clinton tinkered with his 50-minute stemwinder of a convention speech for "weeks and weeks," his longtime friend Terry McAuliffe told CNN Thursday.
"He really took it on himself and said, 'It's my responsibility to lay out the case for what President Obama has done,'" McAuliffe said.

Clinton won rave reviews for explaining, in folksy and often combative detail, Obama's accomplishments since taking office.
Asked if Clinton is frustrated with the administration's seeming inability to communicate those achievements with similar clarity, McAuliffe said: "He doesn't talk like that."
McAuliffe, an all-but-certain candidate for the Virginia governorship next year, was glad-handing and signing autographs in the streets of Charlotte, the site of this year's Democratic National Convention.
He said Clinton flew to Arkansas on Thursday morning.

every day bill gets up he needs to say a big thank you to ross perot....for a guy who never got 50% of the vote the media loves him..
"Can we trust Democratic-Leaders"............?
When on day One-1 of the D-convention GOD was in the Dems-doghouse and Jerusalem was the lost City of Israel..But
"Lo and Behold".....on day two-2 with a yea or nae roll call.......three times....both GOD and Jerusalem were re-instated on the D-convention Platform...."Flip/Flop Leadership" at its best Sooooo when they can do this to GOD than what about us..? "So help us GOD"
I now know why the repubs hate Clinton.

The speech was very disappointing in the diversions it took into misinformation and unfounded allegations about the Republican plans. Bubba does deliver a rousing speech and it was obvious the Democrats have been starving for someone to stand up and find positive things to say about the Obama Administration, like,"...They are Democrats so they will do better next time I promise.".
That was a very good speech. The "arithmetic" part of his speech echoed what President Obama said earlier regarding the budget: "It's Math"
Former President Bill Clinton spoke the truth about Republicans and it would take a fool to think any different knowing that he's putting his legacy is on the line. I thank Former President Bill Clinton for telling the American people what they needed to know that President Obama couldn't say because he is a sitting President and Republicans used that against Obama by lying. Again, one of the most important truths Clinton said, Republicans have created ZERO JOBS.
Great speech! Clinton talked and Mitt cried inside himself.
After weeks of back room deals to get Hillary elected in 2016 ... tonight, I watched the master snake oil salesman, Bill Clinton, sell ice boxes to a room full of liberal Eskimos. Sure the economy was bad when Obama took over in 2008, but Obama, not Bush, squandered 5 1/2 TRILLION of our hard earned dollars in just 3 1/2 years ... and, it was Obama, not Bush, who kept unemployment at over 8% for 42 straight months. Thanks to Obama, our current enconomy is NOW in shambles ... and, Obama wants to double down on his failed policies ... at OUR expense.
Save America ... Dump Obama ... and Elect Romney & Ryan in November !!!
WILLARD MILTON ROMNEY IS A COWARD & TAX EVADER

This was when Bubba really took a diversion into misinformation. Do "The Math" and what it will tell you is that we have no hope of ever coming close to paying for Obama's spending plans even if we taxed the millionaires 100%. It just isn't enough. The spending has to be addressed and the economy has to grow. Of course it would be awkward for Obama to talk about growing the economy after the results of everything he has tried so far. He would have to change something and this would require admitting that what he has done will not work. He has backed himself into a corner. That's okay because Americans have a better choice. Romney/ Ryan 2012.
that really was a great speech from a great former President. just great
The second night wasn't good as the opening night, but it was still great
The Republican convention SUCKED in comparison to the Democrats
And I forced myself to watch the RNC. I can't pull myself away from the DNC
I bet Mr. Clinton's speech reduced horse-Mitt into a Boehner level crying fit. BRAVO!
I think President Clinton was very sweet and honorable in trying to win re-election for Obama because Obama needed his help.
Why are the other news journalist trying to put Clinton and Obama against each other? I am not referring to the above piece but others who would write about last night performance from former president Clinton, A great job last night, by the way, And tonight our president will hold his own, he also, has a great command of words, stage presents and unmatched swagger. It is not Clinton against Obama, remember, it's President Obama against Mitt the twit Romney, who is bland from head to toe and uses words like, "For Pet's sake"
Anyone who points out that Mittens and Ryan are lying will, they themselves, be referred to as demagogues.

I have yet to hear a Republican say they hate Clinton. Clinton does not walk around with a chip on his shoulder nor does he hold some weird grudge against the private sector, small businesses nor did he divide our country the way Obama has divided us. Clinton was in the middle and had a lot of experience as a Governor when he became a young president. And was a good governor. Clinton is just trying to rescue Obama, let's be real, he had no experience as a governor, mayor or city worker.
Clinton took a knife to Romney & Ryan and peeled away their lies as if they were frogs in a high school science lab.
let the games begin
And tonight our president will hold his own, he also, has a great command of words, stage presents and unmatched swagger. It is not Clinton against Obama

Seriously, you cannot compare a man who proved to be a very good governor and than president as Clinton was to Obama, a man who never was even a Mayor and never even held a management position in the city and had absolutely no experience handling the thousand stuff a governor handles, had never even managed a budget.
Humm,
Of course you will work for weeks and weeks writing a speech if you have nothing to say. Bill really knows how to blow smoke. Change is coming in November.
Clinton took apart the GOP's arguments piece by piece last night. Romney's only hope is that more people were watching football than the convention.......but then again, clips of Clinton's speech will surely be shown over and over again leading up to election day. Unless Romney has an "October suprise" up his sleeve, he's toast.
"Clinton was in the middle and had a lot of experience as a Governor when he became a young president. And was a good governor. Clinton is just trying to rescue Obama, let's be real, he had no experience as a governor, mayor or city worker."
Clinton made a heatlh care reform proposal to the left of what Obama enacted. Guess what Obama enacted? The GOP's response to Clinton's proposal. Obama is and always has been a centrist. The only thing that has changed is that the GOP purposefully moved (and continues to move) waaaaaaay off to the right in order to shift the appearance of where the center actually lies, just so they could claim that Obama was "way left of center."
"Do "The Math" and what it will tell you is that we have no hope of ever coming close to paying for Obama's spending plans even if we taxed the millionaires 100%."
You're misrepresenting the math of what is proposed by reducing it to a silly soundbite talking point straw man invented by the GOP/Teatrolls. I suppose that makes sense, since "The Math" has already shown that Mittens would be raising taxes on the middle-class and Ryan's Pathology of Plutocracy budget, which the GOP passed twice and Mittens promised to sign, would explode the deficit and debt in far greater manner than Obama's. When there's nothing left for you to argue against, invent something that's easy to argue against, right? That's all you've done and the GOP/Teatrolls are doing. It's horse pucky and people are starting to really get tired of the stink.
Bill Clinton reminded me why I am a life long democrat. As if I ever need any reminding of that fact.
I was inspired by watching both days so far of the DNC. Well done, except of course for the Israel/God thing. We watched both on C-span. When watching some of the RNC convention (on MSNBC) I had to mute just about all the speakers (some of Krispy Kreme Christie), and felt bad for the RNC when Clint did his empty-chair skit. I'm hoping the DNC had a bigger rating.
If he thinks Obama will help his wife in 2016, I think he is sorely mistaken.
