Gabrielle Giffords to deliver pledge of allegiance at Democratic Convention
Charlotte, North Carolina (CNN) - In what is sure to be an emotional moment for the tens of thousands of delegates and attendees, former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will deliver the pledge of allegiance at Thursday's session of the Democratic National Convention.
"Gabby will attend the convention tonight and will deliver the pledge of allegiance," Giffords' spokeswoman Hayley Zachary told CNN.
Giffords, who was seriously wounded in a Jan. 2011 shooting in her hometown of Tucson at a constituents' event, recently moved back there from Houston to continue her recovery.
Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly arrived in Charlotte on Wednesday.
The Roll Call newspaper first reported Giffords' involvement.

It is so refreshing to see that the focus will be on the Pledge of Allegiance to the US rather than candidates that take a pledge offered by a private citizen aimed to benefit the most economically privileged in this country. Who do you think the Founding Fathers would back in this horse race?
Go gettem Gabby,it great she's doing so well and her husband the rock of her life,always there,always protective ,always supportive!Yah,let's see how Romney remarks on this event,will he be like Limbaugh and berate,belittle her or act adult like and wish her well,it'll show how he relates to people and resonate with voters if he screws up,he did it in London and has other places so why stop now!!See ya tonite Gabby,have fun,make a nite of it,knock em dead!!!
Gabby leads the pledge of allegiance, while the elected republicans offer a pledge to Grover Norquist.

Wait for it, wait for it and there it is One Nation under GODDDDDDD and the Democrats will stop Gabby to take a vote to omit God again from the Democrat platform.
Glad to see her recovery has been so tremendous, but when are the Dems gonna stop exploiting this poor woman and trotting her out when they need brownie points with the public? Leave her alone and let her heal in peace...
Will she call the Republicans nazis, or claim that they are Christians who are out to kill the jews? At least she isn't a convicted perjorer like their keynote speaker or a corrupt union president who stole billions of our hard earned tax dollars so he could retain his luxuious office and then was given millions more to rebuild the UAW golf course for the use of UAW officials only. She is not the head of the democrat liberal campaign committee who goes on televison and tells everyone that what they just saw and heard on television did not happen. This is freaking amazing?
PJ thanks This is always on my heart no matter who it is. I also said many kind words for Santorums daughter Bella and I still have her in my prayers. Actually most of us regulars do that too.
Weird – I don't think that Nazis are in the pledge of allegiance. You must be referring to a different GOP pledge. But I have to agree, you are freaking amazing.

Actually the original (1892) did NOT have "God" like most official or federal documents and sayings.
Including our money, official seal and motto, etc. etc.
So the Dems are more like original patriots than the Repubs as it turns out.
Be a patriot like 1776 – keep away from establishing a religion by the government!
Perhaps they could wheel her out, just to add a little emotional drama.

Giffords is the only one the DNC could use to keep at least half of its delegates from BOOing "one nation under God".., sadly.
