Ryan vague on which loopholes to cut

(CNN) - Republican vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan on Sunday attempted to clarify the plan that he and Mitt Romney have put forth to reduce the deficit, saying they aim to raise revenue not by increasing tax rates, but by ending certain loopholes and deductions for the wealthy.

The House Budget Committee chairman, however, did not elaborate on which loopholes he would plug, saying those decisions should be made in a public debate.

Obama says he's 'happy' to work with GOP, Ryan disagrees

(CNN) – President Barack Obama said in an interview aired Sunday that he would be willing to compromise on a budget deal, but he stood firm on his proposal to raise taxes on households making more than $250,000 per year.

"I'm, you know, more than happy to work with the Republicans," Obama said on CBS's "Face the Nation." "And what I've said is in reducing our deficits, we can make sure that we cut two and a half dollars for every dollar of increased revenue."

Romney says GOP made 'mistake,' weighs in on Eastwood, health care

(CNN) – Mitt Romney said congressional Republicans were wrong to accept a deal last year that could ultimately result in across-the-board spending cuts, including massive cuts to the military.

"I thought it was a mistake on the part of the White House to propose it," Romney said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "I think it was a mistake for Republicans to go along with it."

Gingrich: Clinton a ‘real’ president, Obama a ‘pretender’

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich sought to put a wedge between President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton on Sunday, saying parts of Clinton’s speech at the Democratic National Convention were “eerily anti-Obama.”

“You can take his speech, spin it not very much, and it's actually a condemnation of the fact that Obama learned nothing ... out of the 2010 election,” Gingrich said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
