Brown stands by fitness challenge against Christie

(CNN) - California Gov. Jerry Brown defended his recent fitness challenge against New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Sunday, saying the move was not a swipe at the Republican governor's weight, but a way to show that people his age aren’t over the hill.

"(It) essentially says this old retread can beat you any day of the week," Brown said on CNN's "State of the Union."

At the Republican National Convention, Christie referred to the California governor as an "old retread." So Brown challenged Christie to a three-mile race, as well as a chin-up and pushup contest.

Christie responded Wednesday, telling reporters at a press conference that "Brown can have that contest with himself."

The California governor, however, stood by his invitation Sunday, saying he got "warmed up" in the speech where he initially called for the face-off.

"I'm old. Yes, well, I'm 74. I'll be 74 and a half next month," Brown said Sunday. "But here I am. You know, there is some experience. Hopefully, there's some wisdom. So I got kind of warmed up."

If Christie does a chin up, it should count triple (for his three chins).

Gov Christie is about a side of ribs away from a heart attack. Hope he does something before its too late. Heart attacks do not respect political lines.

I'm afraid Gov. Christie may respond to Gov. Brown by challenging him to a hot dog eating contest. But as a Californian who has long admired Jerry Brown, I'd love to see Gov. Christie take up his challenge!

Christie – like a lot of Republicans such as Newt, Limbaugh, and huckster Huckiberry – can't control what goes into his mouth or what comes out of it. If a guy can't do anything about his own health how in the world can we trust him to take care of the health of the nation.

If Christie tries to run for national office, the 800 pound gorilla in the room will be himself. Don't think for a minute his weight (and all the health-baggage that goes with it) will not be an issue. What's weird is how someone that obese can have such a huge ego. Doesn't he ever look in a mirror? Someday, probably soon, his heart is going to explode. It certainly will if he accepts Brown's fitness challenge. What a slob.

If this guy is serious about a public office, what sort of example is he setting for the kids about fitness? If he's to run with the Conversative Nuts (we all know he hasn't ran in a while) he need to study the scriptures on "Gluttony".

Does Christie have to buy two seats on a commercial airline? Oh right, bet Mitt had a special seat made for him, wonder if Clint talks to it when it's empty.
