Washington (CNN) – U.S. Rep. Todd Akin returned to Capitol Hill Monday for the first time since his comments about "legitimate rape" caused widespread condemnation from fellow Republicans, some of whom called on Akin to drop his bid for Missouri's U.S. Senate seat.
Trailed by reporters asking him about his plans for the Senate race as he walked out of the House chamber Monday, Akin said "I'm in, totally in."

Portland, Oregon (CNN) - Rep. Paul Ryan, the GOP vice presidential candidate, sided with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Monday in the strike by unionized Chicago teachers and urged President Barack Obama to stand behind his former chief of staff.
"Rahm and I have not agreed on every issue or on a lot of issues, but Mayor Emanuel is right today in saying that this teachers' union strike is unnecessary and wrong," Mitt Romney's running mate said at a campaign fund-raiser in Portland, Oregon.

Washington (CNN) - The last time Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, was on Capitol Hill he was known best as the chairman of the House Budget Committee and as a popular member among rank and file Republicans for leading the charge for major spending cuts and advocating a dramatic Medicare overhaul.

Mansfield, Ohio (CNN) – As Republicans braced for news of a post-convention bounce for President Obama Monday, Mitt Romney sought to reclaim the offensive in the race during a speech to Ohio voters.
Romney mocked the president's campaign slogan at an enthusiastic rally in a Mansfield, Ohio factory, warning if Obama were reelected Americans would face more years of high unemployment, a high deficit, and "more years of a nation at the cusp of the kind of crisis you're seeing in Europe."

(CNN) - Mitt Romney gave the appearance of taking a stunning new position Sunday when it seemed he was embracing parts of Obamacare, a law he's vowed – vehemently and repeatedly – to repeal if he wins the election.
"So you'd keep that part of the federal plan," NBC's "Meet the Press" host David Gregory asked the candidate, referring to Obamacare's provisions about pre-existing conditions and coverage for young adults. Romney replied, "I'm not getting rid of all of health care reform. Of course, there are a number of things that I like in health care reform that I'm going to put in place."
