(CNN) - President Barack Obama's re-election campaign and supporting committees brought in more than $114 million last month – the first time the incumbent has outraised his opponent, Gov. Mitt Romney, since April.
Obama’s Campaign Manager Jim Messina announced the figure for August late Sunday night.

Romney’s campaign brought in $111 million last month.
But for three months in a row – June, July, August – Romney’s camp brought in more than $100 million, with $106 million in June and $101 million in July.
“No celebrating, because they're going to have an even bigger September. But now we know we can match them, doing this our way,” tweeted the Obama campaign.
August’s fundraising statistics mark a drastic improvement for the Obama campaign.
Team Obama and the Democratic National Committee only managed to bring in $75 million in July and even less in June: only $71 million.
Of the 1,170,000 people who donated in August, 317,954 of them were new donors who had yet to contribute to this election cycle, the Obama campaign said.
Since April 2011, 3,142,457 people have offered their dollars to the president’s re-election efforts.
The campaign also said 98% of contributions last month were $250 or less, with the average donation totaling $58.
“That is a critical down payment on the organization we are building across the country – the largest grassroots campaign in history,” Messina said.
Obama 2012
Forward on the path to a fair debt reduction plan, and increased manufacturing jobs. Don't believe the GOP lies!
Sorry camp Obama, I've been a bit behind on the giving, but I got your back in the next two months' fundraising my time and my money-just keep them money coming for now!!!
This is a joke.
Think of the money wasted electing a political official. Generally, he or she that raises the most money wins. I guess that makes it legal to buy an election. Just think of all that money that is spent on elections that could go to social programs, infrastructure repairs, medical research, health coverage, education etc.
Why do we allow this??? Do we need this obscene show of wealth and gamesmanship? I think it is disgusting.
How about, we give each candidate, X dollars to get elected once they are selected by the major parties, including the Green Party and then play it out.
Just imagine all that money being used for other than reelection purposes!
It's a disgraceful message that it costs this much money to run successfully for the presidency of the US. Basically a billion dollars, each. So the very best candidate with no money could run against the worst possible candidate with tons of money and lose by being outspent on attack ads and everyone would be ok with that? Really?
Big deal....extra 3 million....
everything is going obamas way towards the finish line
looks like Ryans 3 hour finish...just isnt good enough lmao
Hopefully, the American public is catching on to how phony both Romney and Ryan actually are, and not contributing to them.
In another article Romney stated that the GOP made a 'big mistake' voting for the sequestration bill. Actually, the GOP's 'big mistake' was nominating Mitt the twit and Eddie Munster.
Does the contribution to Obama include the commercials for Obama by the liberal media (abc, cbs, nbc, cnn)?
We need to continue on supporting our president to help keep him in office
This is the stretch run. If you believe in you Candidate, you dig deep and contribute. I intend to donate up to my legal maximum for the President.
My first ccomment is that this money could be limited and being spent on more productive endeavors like charities and putting restrictions on public funds for every campaign. Secondly, I think it is time for moderate democrats and independants to donate this season now not later for Obama! I voted the other side and realize that being a middle class voter means to vote for justice not to subsedize Europe. Time to donate $5.00 or more to the campaign and no I'm not a volunteer nor worker for the Obama machine.
Finally people are remembering what GOPers are doing with party of no and tea party; party all they will but at the end last laugh will be for the people.
Obama so loved the poor, he created millions more.
Go Obama.. Who on earth would vote for Robme and Lyin Ryan.. Those two losers will turn the clocks in this country back by 100 years... We can't let this happen !
This will make them try to keep people from voting even more. The conventions just proved who is best for the country. FORWARD 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I
I watched all I could stomach of Meet the Press yesterday. If that non working wife brings up her MS one more time I am going to scream. MS is a horrible disease and for people who don't have healthcare or a lot of $$$ or a therapy horse she never seems to use it's even worse.
On one hand we have Mrs. Obama's father who was in pain but still got up every morning and using a walker and went to work. On the other hand we have the witch trying to get sympathy votes. It won't work!!!
I wonder how many small donations Romney has received? I have never seen that statistic. It must be with his tax returns.
lets give president barrack obama another chance to deliver more and opponents should go and rest!
I sent Obama my check and I hope all the independent voters do the same. The Billionaires and Millionaires are contributing big to Mitt and Dan Quayle, Jr.
I wonder what motivated people the most to contribute to Obama, the DNC or the RNC?
"Jobs gone up? Oppinion Polls gone up? And now this?? You actually expect anyone to believe this?? The only thing that's really risen is Obama's Lies!."
Obama Donations: Over 3 million people
Romney Donations: a few thousand rich people rich people.
those Rich capitalist libs are everywhere! why they want to vote for this guy and pay more taxes is really beyond any logical reasoning, then again libs don't think, they react... i hope he takes everything that you have and throws it down the toilet on another handout or a solyndra
Of course he did. The upper middle class and rich hollywood actors love him. But remember hes for the poor and working class.
Glad to see the $$$ coming in. I'm a senior citizen and I'm going to send in my $50 any day now....Hey you Social Security and Medicare&Medicade recipitants (Florida in particular))-listen up!...If you think for 1 minute that we are really not going to be effected by the Romney/Ryan-overhaul and voucher system then you are kidding yourselves..I don't care what your feelings for Obama are -if you vote this duo into office you are sealing your own fate and that of your grown children. Wake up seniors! Why would you even want to chance it-WHY ????
