Outside airport, Romney marks 9/11 anniversary

Chicago (CNN) - Mitt Romney marked the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks Tuesday by greeting firefighters and first responders gathered on an airport tarmac in Chicago.

It was an impromptu stop for the presidential candidate, who thanked the emergency personnel stationed at the airport and observed the anniversary on the tarmac.

The line of first responders marked the moment the first plane hit the World Trade Center by saluting for a moment of silence, a large American flag draped over their trucks.

Romney's motorcade arrived 15 minutes later, after the flag had been taken down.

When he arrived at his campaign charter at Chicago's O'Hare Airport, the Republican presidential candidate climbed out of his motorcade, put on a blazer and walked over to the line of emergency vehicles.

Romney then shook hands with the line of men in firefighter uniforms who stood in front of four yellow fire trucks with flashing lights, and thanked them for their service.

It is good to see the failed governor of MA, talking to first responders and firefighters. He has promised to reduce the number of these government employees, so I would hope that they can see through his lies.

As governor, Mittens outsourced MA government jobs, raised taxes over 700 times, added $2.6 billion to the MA debt, and left office with an approval rating lower than 48 other state governors. I did not even mention his job creation being 47th in the nation, yet this is what the tea baggers want for leader? Talk about a group hell bent on destroying America.

If it was up to Mittens, he would outsource all police, firefighters, and teachers to India and China.

I see Mr. Mittens is managing to get his non-campaigning 9/11 "impromptu" visits in after all.

But how many of them would lose their jobs under the Romney/Ryan budget proposals?

  10. Keep us all on our heels...

and the whole time the firefighters are thinking to themselves... just who the f does he think he is? Mitt, if you really cared and really thought it was important, you would have arrived on time and not tried stealing the moment for political gain.

Mr flip flop finally got something right . Thanking first responders. Finally the american public is getting a good look at this clown. Lets see who agrees with or diagrees with tomorrow. Why would i want a president who has so little confidence in this country and so little reguard for the people that pay taxes here and keeps his money over seas. ? Why would I trust some one who can't show us his taxes because it would be more fodder for the democrats. Is this because he knows he is paying less than the average american.? What part of the affordable health care act is suddenly ok now? OOps I gues he changed his mind again. The vp must have run one of those 2 hour marathons again. Keep lying to the american people you two and noone will vote for you. Forward.

  13. Former Republican, now an Independent

It is pure hypocrisy for Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan to greet or thank firefighters and then support efforts to strip them of their civil rights. These two phony politicians want to eventually take the right to bargain as one voice away from every American, thus ending any advancements workers will ever make in wages and benefits. This will allow businesses to hand out even larger bonuses and salaries to executives, further transferring the wealth of the nation to the 5% and destroying the American Middle Class. Then we will be like any other 3rd world country in the on the planet.
