Ryan vouches for Romney's character in speech to conservatives

Washington (CNN) - Beneath his stiff and sometimes impersonable exterior, Mitt Romney has a heart of gold.

That's according to the testimonial Paul Ryan delivered on Romney's behalf Friday at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, an annual gathering of social conservatives and faith leaders organized by the Family Research Council.

"I'm not the only one who has told Mitt that maybe he needs to talk more about himself and his life," Ryan said, acknowledging a recurring complaint among Republicans that Romney does a poor job of highlighting his personal side. "It wouldn't hurt if voters knew more of those little things that reveal a man's heart and his character."

Ryan spoke about the time Romney suspended operations at Bain Capital in 1996 to marshal support for a search and rescue operation for the missing daughter of an employee.

Romney is "one of those guys who doesn't just exhort and oversee good works, but shows up and does the work," Ryan said.

"Mitt Romney is the type we've all run into in our own communities, the man who's there right away when there's need, but never first in line when praise and credit are being handed out," he said. "He's a modest man with a charitable heart, a doer and a promise-keeper."

"He's the kind of person every community could use more of, and he'll be the kind of president who brings out the best in our country."

The remarks came at the conclusion of an otherwise pointed speech that criticized a litany of President Obama's actions over the last four years.

one lier vouching for the other. Gee thats a news flash. Tax returns show character. How many ways have you screwed your country out of money?. Like your swiss bank accounts Do you not haave the confidence to keep your money here? . What are you asking the average person to pay while you pay less. What write offs benifit you ? Will you cut them or only ones that effect the middle class?Putting your dog on top of your car shows character and lack of judgement. Speakin out on lybia before getting the the facts shows lack of judgement and character. .Lying about a race or about the presidents welfare work performance. These all show character flaws.

I realize that Gov. Romney’s character, or lack thereof, is the topic of the article, but that is not why people are asking to see his tax records. As for his character his tiny-step gate along with his inflection and habit of turning his whole torso after telling an obvious lie is all I need to see to know who this man is. Even the best actors cannot get past their own body language and Romney’s is a dead giveaway to the manipulative, insincere man he truly is.

Republicans are carrying a bunch of "dead weight", Americans know it and they are jumping ship. Did Romney think these Republicans, who don't like him anyway, would let him be the captain or is he just plain lost in space.

@Travis – yes Mitt showing his tax returns will reveal a lot about a man that wants to be president. He doesn't want to show them so that says to me he's a cheat or we know he's a proven liar so probably will show how long he actually stayed at Bain when he supposedly left. It is a sad day in America when you hate a man so bad that you bet against the country and want to put a PROVEN LIAR in office. And on top of all that he is a DUFUS.

  6. "Oust the House", vote a straight Dem ticket in 2012!

Given Lyin' Ryan's casual acquaintance with the truth and facts, that is less than a ringing endorsement.

In comparison to the current president how can you just bash mitt? One has a half-blood brother living in actual extreme poverty and has never helped him at all while claiming he cares about the poor when in front of camera. Mitt gave his whole inheritance from his father to charity and made it on his own and gives way more still percentage of income and total than obama. Please tell me your aware of this. And not just bogus tax dodging claims

I hear that Addelsson has SET ASIDE $100MILLION to make sure that President Obama is NOT re-elected.

$100MILLION. That's a lot of disposable income. So what do you do with that money? Do you dump it ALL into Romney's campaign in the improbable an hope that Romney pulls himself together and morphs into a formidable candidate? Or do you help your candidate along by, maybe, possibly, creating instability for his opponent in your attempt to make him look weaker and less capable than the ragdoll you're backing?

    Just ruminating out loud......

What does Ryan know about a character? His own character is being called into question since become the VP nominee. Ryan has known Romney for how long – weeks? Certainly providing the credentials to voucher for his new boss.

@ Truth Hurts, your blog name says it all. The truth is hurting you so bad about RomneyHood and Lying Ryan that you cannot see the forest for the trees. Whatever made you TP/GOP people think that Romney was the one, it was a cruel joke. Romney is in the same boat as Sarah Palin. The sad part is that I really feel bad for his children and grandchildren to see that the man they look up to is a liar, tax cheat and not as smart as he looks. Romneyhood is a businessman to the core (and a sneaky one at that) and knows nothing about government, but to take tax payers dollars to fill his and his buddies pockets.

If he has a heart of gold then it must be stashed away in a Swiss bank.

@Domican Mama.. ABC News (if you can believe them) reported the movie was written by a two time felon while in prison. He is a Cptic Christian from Egypt living in the U.S. and was funded by his family in Egypt. The movie was first posted to you tube on July 1st but not viewed by an Egyptian Muslim Cleric until last week where he brought it to the attention of his followers and inciting them to protest and riot. I think this was a calculated plot to incite the Islamic Egyptians by the Egyptian Christians who are at odds with each other and have been for centuries. America was used as a scape goat.

    Comical in a Shakespearean way.

One serial liar vouching for another liar.

    "I paid all my taxes"

    " I ran a marathon in under 3 hours."

Pathetic, and no one believes either of you anymore.

Why do people keep referring to Romney as a good man? A good man does not go around lying, tax cheating, and threatening war at every turn in the road. A "severe" conservative is someone to be feared.

Just something i've wondered for a while and maybe many others. How can you trust a man that changed his name to his biological father who abandoned him and wasn't part of his life? Would you or anyone you know or trust do that? Its just plain obviously strange isn't it?
