Ryan vouches for Romney's character in speech to conservatives

Washington (CNN) - Beneath his stiff and sometimes impersonable exterior, Mitt Romney has a heart of gold.

That's according to the testimonial Paul Ryan delivered on Romney's behalf Friday at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, an annual gathering of social conservatives and faith leaders organized by the Family Research Council.

"I'm not the only one who has told Mitt that maybe he needs to talk more about himself and his life," Ryan said, acknowledging a recurring complaint among Republicans that Romney does a poor job of highlighting his personal side. "It wouldn't hurt if voters knew more of those little things that reveal a man's heart and his character."

Ryan spoke about the time Romney suspended operations at Bain Capital in 1996 to marshal support for a search and rescue operation for the missing daughter of an employee.

Romney is "one of those guys who doesn't just exhort and oversee good works, but shows up and does the work," Ryan said.

"Mitt Romney is the type we've all run into in our own communities, the man who's there right away when there's need, but never first in line when praise and credit are being handed out," he said. "He's a modest man with a charitable heart, a doer and a promise-keeper."

"He's the kind of person every community could use more of, and he'll be the kind of president who brings out the best in our country."

The remarks came at the conclusion of an otherwise pointed speech that criticized a litany of President Obama's actions over the last four years.

    @ Marry
    "Just show your tax returns!"

Showing his tax returns is not a requirement when running for President of the United States. Tax returns doesn't show a person's character.

Well, we'll let the American people be the judge of that in Novembe,r when your candidate is making his concession speech and then, you can ask yourself was it really worth it.

When I saw the headline, I started laughing.
Just too good. . . Lyin' Ryan vouches for Romney's character. You can't make this stuff up.
Oh, and then he has to reach back to 1996 - 16 years ago - for an example.
Think even I've done more than one good thing in last 16 years.

paul ryan does not understand people / public/american people. he does not have much knowledge for human aspirations, god and religion. he thinks himself as a prophet and a great leader, who can convince american people what is good dor them and how to succeed in life. He and mit romney only know enough for their respective success, even thoug success is only partly. with romney's birth and opportunities, he had, he could have been a billionaire like bill gates, warren buffets and the like but he failed to reach that status because of his lack of business ablities. paul ryan however made some success in limited way through his abilities. american people are always working hard for their success but other factors, affect their lives, not being looked after by govt(s). with some help from riches and through their prayers, they can advance further. god help those, who help themselves. american people know this and depend on that. american people are not dependent on big govt. as claimed by paul ryan and mit romney. in fact they themselves depended on govt. indirectly not being investigated meeting govt. regulations. american public are hard working people and make good money by their own effort, only to be helped via mass education and mass health care. rest the american people can do and doing. ordinary public are more kind and generous to help those in need. mit romney's help towards a young lady is insignificant compared to other americans doing and helping every day within their limited means. romey and ryan failed to achieve their goals in their lives, so they are trying to become leaders to serve american people, infact only desiring to serve their egos to fill the gaps in their career. americans can not be fooled by their soft spoken lectures. american people need motivation, inspiration, education and better healt, so that they can do the rest.

This Pinochio (P) Ryan says that Romney has a heart of gold. But he will give it only to the rich and no one else (that is in small print). This is like a liar vouching for another liar

Chris said: Mitt gave his whole inheritance from his father to charity and made it on his own
If you call the tough times when Robmey and his wife Ann were 19 they lived off of Robmeys Stock Options. Who do you think provided those stocks to begin with?
altogether now!! How many of us lived off of our Stock Options?

Those of you who are so strongly in Willard's corner, why don't you ask him to release his tax returns if you:

    1) feel there is nothing in there damaging; or
    2) feel he could win this election.

Go ahead, I DARE you to this challenge.

    @ cali girl
I appreciate what you're saying, but again; a person's character is not revealed by the release of their tax returns. If there are other things you don't like about the guy, that's fine (I don't oppose or suppor him either), but at the end of the day, nothing states that he must show his tax returns while running for President of the United States.

We should throw the unhinged GOBP tea potty out of the government that they hate so much in Nov. They can't do the job.

The 2nd worst President in the history of America (Carter) is now telling the worst President in the history of America (Obama) to handle the current mideast crisis,
the same way Carter mishandled Iran. Talk about the blind leading the blind !!!
America needs a strong President, not a weak apologist and appeaser ...
Save America ... Elect Romney & Ryan in November !!

Mitt has been running for POTUS for at least the past 10 years. Now a last-minute reveal about his "character" is going to turn things around? I doubt it. I think most people have made up their minds about Mitt. A couple of stories about good deeds Mitt has (allegedly) performed won't counter the impression people have already formed by watching Mitt on television over these past few months. .

If Mitt Romney has a "heart of gold", people can sense it. It should be obvious without Ryan having to tell us.
If MItt Romney has a "great sense of humor" and is a prankster, we would know it without Mrs. Romney having to
    tell us.
Well, we've heard about his pranks, and they were more mean than prankish.
We've heard him speak, and that's frightening and far from funny.
So, he is what he is.....not ready for 'prime time'.

Som what is new for a VP candidate to vouch for the character of his Presidential candidate. It is self praise and validation which adds nothing in the public. Both are equally bad for us in the USA and its image in the world. Both lie all the time and makeup stories as they fit their purpose. Both of them flip-flop on their positions and know nothing about being VP or POTUS. They are actually unfit to serve USA in those capacities and won't be elected in Nofvmeber 2012.

Vote ofr Obama and the democrats in November elections and let us be civilized country as per our values.

For the record, Romney is no more my candidate than Obama is. In fact, this year I plan on voting for someone other than Republican or Democrat.

HOWARD.... If you want to call Obama the worst president in history....you'd better go back to fourth grade and start reading up on the presidents because you are either dumb or just plain stupid....Why are you people in such a hurry to show how uneducated you are by saying something like this when it can so easily be refuted....can't you read or do you spend all of your time watching Fox news????

The 2nd worst President in the history of America (Carter) is now telling the worst President in the history of America (Obama) to handle the current mideast crisis,
To find the definition of the worst administration in American history try a web search for "Nixon Agnew". Agnew wound up in jail, and Nixon was granted reprieve from jail time because of a pardon from Pres. Gerald Ford.

Thank you for the info. I will read up on that. So many lies being bandied about by the GOP in their all out effort to bring down the President that quite frankly, well, sometimes one can't help but wonder.
    Thanks again.
