(CNN) – After a wave of post-convention approval, President Barack Obama's lead has faded, according to the latest Gallup daily tracking poll Tuesday.
Gallup's seven-day rolling average indicates that 47% of registered voters supporting Obama and 46% supporting Romney, returning the race back to narrow, pre-convention margins.

The president's lead was as high as seven points in Gallup's daily tracking poll last Wednesday.
A CNN Poll of Polls which averages the seven national survey of likely voters conducted following the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention earlier this month indicated that 49% of likely voters were backing the president, with 46% supporting the Republican nominee.
While the Gallup poll samples registered voters, it will move to sample the smaller pool of likely voters in the next few weeks as November draws near.
This latest edition of the Gallup poll was conducted September 11-17, nearly entirely before Monday's release of secretly recorded clips of Romney speaking at a private fundraiser in May that critics charge portray him as out of touch with ordinary Americans. Those clips have dominated coverage of the campaign trail over the past 24 hours.
The Gallup daily tracking poll is based on telephone interviews with approximately 3,050 registered voters; Margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points.
CNN's Dana Davidsen and Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.
wow! that didnt take too long to see the bump go bye-bye! we all knew the bump was not gonna last.....so......in november we can all take heart that potus can begin making plans to go back to chicago where he can continue practicing his disgraceful thuggery!!!!!!
Not sure this article passes the "smell test".
Likely was taken before Romney demonstrated his "smallness" about the Libyan Ambasador situation. That did not reflect well on him.
This poll certainly was taken BEFORE Romney revealed his true fellings about white, "working-class" people, retirees that pay no income taxes, retired and/or disabled veterans and the rest of those that make up the 47%.
His offensive comments on these TWO counts will hurt him. Especially in midwestern battleground states & Florida.
The problem is that here in the United States, we are so into "forgiveness" (as in Romney's major goofs the past two weeks) that we lose sight of the morals and ethics of a situation. I think someone must EARN forgiveness. And Romney hasn't done that. He just "double downs."
Voting Romney/Ryan. CT had the highest tax in history last year and guess what, the state budget is still running a deficit as well as boasting an unemployment rate of 8.6% with no signs of improvement on any front! Obama's got to go!
Gallup always polls to the right. They still call land lines... young people don't use land lines for phone they use cell phones. Who uses land lines... old.... people who don't change with the times...
by the way....you all moderating the discussion of american citizens, and eliminating whatever you dont want to see just makes me sick....i dont care that you dont approve of what I say.....if you can post the idiot Bill Maher's inane rants and sad commentary about republican women, and then feel the need to "approve" what I say? .....just kiss off – OH, have a nice day!
The timing of the release of Mitt's Latest Follies is interesting...
Thre are so many polls and they are all dfferent - the liberal media always seem to show polls with large Obama leads -- I believe all these polls are doing the Merican election process a disservice There is only one poll that counts - election night. Everything else is partisan showmanship,,,
As for the secret video of Romney - that is a hill of beans -– it had nothing to do with how Mitt is going to govern – it simple reflects a fund raising speech - and the liberal media is making a big thing of it trying to influence voters
well, this is hardly news. Gallup has had a 3 point GOP lean the entire cycle and shows Obama with a 4% approval rating. Most national polls show Obama up 3 to 7 points, so the likely number is 3. The other thing to remember is that Obama is doing very poorly in states like Texas and Alabama, and Romney is doing ver poorly in states like California and New York. Since it is an electoral college decision, it is fairly irrelevant what the national vote is (just ask Al Gore). Right now, Obama leads in 11 of the 13 swing states, and is on track for a 320-218 electoral college victory, including strong leads in PA and Ohio and Virginia...the country is hugely divided by state and ethnicity, with whites without college degrees going for Romney by 3-2 and blacks, latinos, youth and women going for Obama by that same 3-2 margin. Mitt Romney would have to receive 85% of the white male vote to have a chance against Obama, and that ain't going to happen, folks.
Tax Payer And President Obama Supporter
I wonder if Romney or his wealthy friends are responsible for the video that caused our Americans to be killed last week.

It wasn't a video. It was a blatant lack of security. Incompetence. Mitt Romney had nothing to do with that. But his administration starting in January will fix a lot of it.
obama has never been ahead...just lib media...vote Romney.
This could be a problem for The One.
Bring on the debates! Pleeeeease ask about:
1. Magic Underwear
2. Tax Returns
Each candidate can provide one, but not the other. Which will you vote for?
Wait till the debates. The show has just begun.
After Romney insulted half the country, here are the confirmed final results of the November election:
Obama – 55%
Romney – 45%
finally the people , no matter what, have awaken and therefore are not afraid to say, "I'm for Romney." Forgot to mention, as of tomorrow, IT Will Get Better-
Independents will turn the tide towards Obama for good. The lies and distortions of the Romney campaign won't work on anybody but the under-edicated, bigoted base. Independents would like to see Romney's tax returns. They'd also like to hear some specifics on how he plans to pay for low taxes, cheap gas, healthcare, and loopholes for the rich.
Starting in Jan. 2013–a certain group of people will have to work for a living. Romney will give no hand-outs.
If Mitt Romney's statements about the citizens who support President Obama are acceptable to people then his latest statements will not mean anything. However, if people are offended then he may be in some trouble. The fact that he even made the statement about 47% of the voters do not pay taxes and play the victim is outrageous even if this was to his supporters. Unfortunately, one only has to look at how the western part of MA fell deeper into financial difficulty when he was governor to know that he does not truly care about those who are not wealthy. At one time I assume that many of us did not pay much int eh way of taxes because our salaries were not large. Once we moved into higher earnings brackets out taxes did go up. However, how many of us had loophole after loophole which helped us to pay less. we know we did not.
Mr. Romney is not paying taxes on everything either. For him to talk about the 47% ion such a disparaging manner shows that he is totally unfamiliar with the plight of those who are underemployed, unemployed,or senior citizens. Those on disability also require assistance from the government. Perhaps we should just forget about them and only help those who would support Mr. Rpmney.
Elegance had nothing to do with us. Again Mr. Romney refuses to back down when he makes an error in judgement. He exaggerated the numbers and made accusations that he could not back up. Add that to the outrageous ads being circulated by the pacs and you can see the trend. They can manipulate the truth and then continue to write ads that contain these misstatements. Why we do not get angry about these events is the question. Why are we allowing these people to determine the path to election day and to film and air these ads. Where is the media? They are too afraid to speak the truth.
Big shock there!
Wow! Milton W's a poet and a fascist. Who'da thunk?
Obama, the sheeple may elect you but you will never be my president. Or any president for that manner. For all I consider is we have no president at all.
Well Mitt Romney has proven he's not fit to hold anything requiring public trust. I mean this guy, I just don't know what he stands for. He was for abortin before he was aginst it, he was for national health care reform before he was aginst it. He was against the 47% and now for them once his remarks hit the light of day. The only thing he is solid on is off shore bank accounts and more tax cut for the rich and and not letting people know if he paid any taxes before the last couple years.
Gee how surprising.......mideast in flames his majesty golfing and campaigning I wonder how this happened?
the communist Nigerian is going down !
