Obama's convention bounce vanishes in Gallup poll

(CNN) – After a wave of post-convention approval, President Barack Obama's lead has faded, according to the latest Gallup daily tracking poll Tuesday.

Gallup's seven-day rolling average indicates that 47% of registered voters supporting Obama and 46% supporting Romney, returning the race back to narrow, pre-convention margins.

The president's lead was as high as seven points in Gallup's daily tracking poll last Wednesday.

A CNN Poll of Polls which averages the seven national survey of likely voters conducted following the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention earlier this month indicated that 49% of likely voters were backing the president, with 46% supporting the Republican nominee.

While the Gallup poll samples registered voters, it will move to sample the smaller pool of likely voters in the next few weeks as November draws near.

This latest edition of the Gallup poll was conducted September 11-17, nearly entirely before Monday's release of secretly recorded clips of Romney speaking at a private fundraiser in May that critics charge portray him as out of touch with ordinary Americans. Those clips have dominated coverage of the campaign trail over the past 24 hours.

The Gallup daily tracking poll is based on telephone interviews with approximately 3,050 registered voters; Margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points.

CNN's Dana Davidsen and Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

The media is in overdrive to get Obama re-elected. Obama's gaffe about Egypt being an ally got about 10 minutes of coverage on all networks. Stories about American embassies being breeched and our dead ambassador are fading away for an all out assault on Romney. I guess we'll have to wait for the September jobs report for a single day of news critical of Obama.

Not for long after Romney opened up his big mouth and won't back down!

Romney does not have the forethought or wisdom to be President of the United States. He has made enough blunders to be the laughingstock of this country and he is not learning from his mistakes. Another sure sign he is not qualified for this job.

After all the hard work, effort, mis-information and out right dishonestly being reported by CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC and hundreds of liberal newspapers and publications, the only two reliable Polls, Rasmussen and Gallop have your guy up by only one percent. Wow.

Romney stated the truth – clear and simple; unfortunately a lot of us do not want to hear the truth.

Nearly 1/2 of us want Obama re-elected, and nearly 1/2 of us want a change (Romney). It is the remainder that will decide the election. Neither the Obama supporters nor the Romney supporters will be influenced by any of the polls/editorials – we will just use the time for bantering back and forth. It is going to be a long two months – Obama will lead, then Romney – I don't think anyone has a good idea who is going to win at this point.

Why the so-called media cannot report honestly, at least, once? According to some reports on CNN Mr. OBAMA is a kind of President that since the inaugartion day continued the campaign for his re-election and left the American people increasing the long list of "people on food-stamps". Is he really, a President that all of us need?

The twit is losing more latino votes and when his comments about Mexico, where his daddy was born and why his polygamist grandaddy moved there, it's going to be worse. He's losing to the President as far as women votes in most of the swing states.

The protesters over the weekend had signs that said: Obama we are El-Qaeda.” Then the Whitehouse stated that it was a protest about this film clip that was putout 6 months ago.

Do you think that Whitehouse is denial as to what is happing?

It was bound to vanish at some point. The question is how much will it rise after the debate. I don't think that Romney will get much after the debate.

What else does this man have to do to tell America that he is not prepared to be president? Mitt Romney has no idea of what is going on in everyday lives of people....TeapubliCANTS will spin this latest gaffe, but even they know that they have a bad candidate.

Finally a story of actual substance from CNN. Rather than out of context hyper sensationalism over Rombey's 47% or Obama's redistribution. Next will be the famous "cling to your guns" video. Stick to reporting the entire story. Maybe the public will see for themselves.

Romney is either a fool or a prophet (maybe he's both). Poll reports 47% support Obama. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction.

This was before Romney said that 47% of Americans were "victims" and before he said : He would kick the ball down the field when it came to Israel and the Palestinians. Romney is done.

I dont think so Cnn and Gallop. Mitts numbers are spiralling into the toilet and this latest tape is just another nail in his coffin. He's had nothing but bad weeks while Obama, his wife, and Pres Clinton have been hitting them out of the park.

So, after all the comments and stories about Romney's campaign supposedly melting down, it turns out to be far from the truth–what a surprise, NOT! The Main-Stream-Media really ought to try reporting the facts and letting the viewers, listeners, readers decide what to think about it for a change. I for one see tremendous integrity, competence, and experience in Mitt that will allow him to turn our country's economy around and fix it...like he did for the 2002 Olympics and so many companies. We have to change leadership in the White House and finally stop spending more than we are earning! Right now, the debt is so high that every man, woman, and child in America would have to pay $50,000 each in order to pay off the debt. And, if we don't reverse this quickly, America will not be able to even keep up with the interest payments. What do we do then? We can't declare bankrupcy as a nation. Nobody is big enough to bail us out like Greece. Enough is enough already...get registered and vote for Romney-Ryan!!

Romney may be a nice guy among the "high on the hog" types, and he may be a good family man. However, that does not make him fit to be president. He is accustomed to being a businessman and investor, not a leader of anything. Anyone who seriously sees him as a better alternative to Obama is fooling himself/herself. Besides, as long as penguins don't get to vote then nothing really matters.

The media attempt at making Romney looking like a meanie conservative failed. You just can't hide the high unemployment, high debt, and failed foreign policies of the Obama administration.
