Romney's '47%' – Washington's tax break obsession to blame

New York (CNNMoney) - Mitt Romney's videotaped remarks made public this week point to at least one true fact: Nearly half of American taxpayers do indeed end up paying no federal income tax.

In footage taped with a hidden camera at a Romney fundraiser in May, the Republican presidential candidate describes the "47% of the people who will vote [for President Obama] no matter what." He says they are "dependent on government" and "believe they are victims." They "pay no income tax," he says.

Seems like the only people obsessed with tax breaks are the faux job creators. They are the ones getting the tax breaks. And speaking of taxes......

    Where are yours Willard?

    OBAMA 2012!

Oh boy Willard! You've really stuck your foot in your mouth this time. I'm in that 47% and I pay income tax, payroll tax and every other tax and I'm not dependent on government. Not to mention, you are disenfranchising republicans in that 47%. Look here Mr. 1%, some people really are victims of the Bush Great Recession. Some people lost their life savings, their homes, had to pull their kids out of school because they couldn't afford tuition anymore. There is a role for government. But this is the same guy who said "he really doesn't care about the poor because they have a safety net."

Why anyone would vote for Romney is beyond me. He has a big mouth, he's arrogant & ignorant. His ideas regarding foreign policy are reckless & dangerous. Nearly half of Americans are lazy and want handouts according to him. Food, healthcare & shelter half of us don't need any of that. Are we a third world country? Romney your a liar, fraud & a little out of touch. I will vote for Obama.

how long it will take low and middle Republicans to comprehend that Mitt was including them in his 47% remarks?

The freeloading 47%, just don't care that everyone else is rowing the boat. And for those that find Romney's CORRECT statement "uncomfortable"... too bad. The truth hurts, and it's about time someone had the stones to say it.

Wow...really pulling out the stops to apologize for Mittens disgusting tyrade behind closed dorrs that revealed him for the plutocrat jackhole we all really knew him to be in the first place, eh CNN? What's the next step in desperately trying to save your horse race narrative? Simply adopting his disgusting rhetoric for him and trying to actually prove him right, despite the facts proving him so insanely wrong and so nauseatingly amoral?

I am very astonished to hear Romney saying about 47% who do not pay tax while no one knows whether himself have been paying taxes, since he refused to release his Tax Returns as a proof. Where does he gather the courage from to even dare giving these horrible remarks.

Romney will force people who are retired to get a job to pay taxes until they DIE
Disabled people who are on government assistance will be stripped of their government support an will be forced to DIE on the streets.
People who cannot find a job because of a poor economy will be cut off and forced into crime or DIE in the streets

Romeny of course can hide his money in the Cayman Islands so he does not pay taxes

Face it Romney – 47% can't stand you.

And now you've ticked off people who have worked 45, 50 or 55 years and are living on soc. sec. and meager retirement, underpaid and poor military, disabled, etc.

But hey -- I'm sure you can count on the top 10% - reckon 10% is enough to win the election?

  12. The REAL Truth...

Based on remarks this week alone, it's evident that Willard's campaign is toast! His 47% comment is typical Republican attack on Obama, who has absolutely no skin in that game. As mentioned in the article, the Tax Code is SOLELY the responsibility of Congress, not the POTUS. I'm really tired of his lapdog attack strategy – as are most intelligent Americans.
It's time for the GOP/RNC to give us some details on what their plans are for "fixing what ails us". The trust us we'll fix it when you vote for us approach is lame at best.

"Unless they are all unemployed, most of the 47% of Americans who don't pay income tax are not freeloaders, but simply don't make enough money to make it over the baseline. Some of these 47% are undoubtedly Republicans. They still pay other taxes like payroll, sales, property taxes, etc."

I know it. You know it. Mitt Romney knows it. Republicans now trying to "spin" Mitt Romney know it. What Republicans haven't figured out is that Mitt Romney doesn't much care for THEM either. And each and every one of the spinners come out looking even more foolish than Mitt Romney. Yeah, I know ... unbelievable to what extent they will contort the truth for a guy who holds them in as much contempt as he holds us, isn't it?

Well, you get some honest to gawd truth slapped in your Liberal vacuum view of the world.

Screw these freeloaders and the Liberals who cry a river of their own self inflicted plight, Mitt's right, they aint going to vote for you anyway. The refreshing comment may have just released him.

These are the kind of things we need to talk about, not Romeys taxes, the daily media reporting of todays Democrat talking points as lead stories.

Anybody posting on here saying Romney lost their vote is a bold faced liar, they were never going to vote for him in the first place.

Why doesn't Obama campaign in Texas? He doesn't need to, he knows he's hated there. Same thing for Mitt, these people are not his supporters and there's nothing he can do to change their minds.

I think all those caring repubs should sacrifice their social security /medicare /medicade so all of us peons who actually work for a living AND pay taxes can depend on something we have paid intofor many . I also have a question – if the wealthy create jobs where are they – EXXON Mobile makes 42Billion in quarterly profits _ Should be good for new refineries / more drilling and several million jobs at least _ Now what about OCC petro / Valero – IBM / Altria etc we should be importing people to fill jobs if the rich create them (except in NC where no one is smart enough to fill the jobs that are available!)

It's disgusting how elitist Romney has such contempt for fellow Americans, including our seniors, veterans, etc. These individuals respectfully earned a place in the 47%.

What about the rest of use who do pay taxes and WILL vote for President Obama? How can I vote for a man who pays a tax rate of 13% on his income when I pay a tax rate of 28% on the small income that I make? Never trust a snake who hides in the grass!!!!!!!!

So where does this sorry SOB lump a disabled retired vet? Perhaps if he and his rich friends paid their employees a fairer share of the company's earnings then those 47% would make enough to not be income tax-exempt! The rich pigs would do well to remember that even the longest legs must touch the ground and the ground is covered with those 47%-plus.

How can Americans be sure Romney's not being completely hypocritical by not paying any income taxes himself these past years?

Romney refuses to release his own tax returns for the American people. Don't trust what Mitt is hiding.

well of course they don't If you don't make much money you dont pay taxes. How many people file and don't have to pay? Romney thinks the middle class is between 200 and 250 thousand a year. We all pay sales tax and some state tax and gas tax. So if you are poor like most of the red states then you don't pay. Romney is talking to his own base. Look at the states with the highest rate of people that don't pay , all red. He is a sleeze . Forward.

But people seem to be ignoring the fact that many of that 47% are die-hard social conservatives. The states of Mississippi and Alabama are proof of that but its easier just to say they are all democrats.

Mitt is including Americas seniors and our Men and Women fighting for us overseas in that 47%. Mitt said he is not worried about 47% of Americans. So Mitt which Americans are you worried about. Mitt is not presidential material.
