(CNN) – The surreptitiously recorded video of Mitt Romney at a campaign fund-raiser has had a moderately negative effect on registered voters, a poll released Wednesday indicated.
The poll, taken Tuesday, showed 36% of registered voters indicating they would be less likely to vote for Romney after the tapes were released. Twenty percent said they were more likely to vote for Romney, and 43% said the tapes made no difference.

Among independents, 15% said they were more likely to vote for Romney in November, compared to 29% who were less likely and 53% who said the tapes made no difference.
The poll was taken Tuesday, as the tapes were picked apart by media outlets and pundits. They were first released Monday night on the website of the liberal magazine Mother Jones.
In the tapes, Romney makes a political prediction based on his view of Obama's supporters.
"There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what," Romney says in one clip. "There are 47% who are with him, who are dependent on government, who believe that, that they are victims, who believe that government has the responsibility to care for them. Who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing."
Adding to his argument about entitlement, Romney said his "job is not to worry about those people."
Romney also discusses, in pessimistic tones, the chances for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
The Gallup survey was taken by telephone from 885 registered voters, and the sampling error was plus or minus 4 percentage points. Among independents the sampling error was plus or minus 5.5 percentage points.

So 140,000,000 (47%) Americans are on the dole. 62,000,000 Kids, 45,000,000 Seniors, 12,000,000 disabled people, the number looks to me more like 17% that are unemployed or milking the system. The kids, seniors, and disabled people, according to Gov Romney should start paying taxes. Good luck with that Mitt.
I can only imagine how bad the economy will become if Romney/Ryan gets in.
sorry, sorry charlie...i read this as a net loss for romney of 16%...i'd say that was a pretty big deal...oh, and those 46% do pay taxes but i'm not really sure romney does which is another pretty big deal...and one more thing...is romney for or against paying income taxes?
myviews says: "I think that large percentage of people voting for Romney are people who want jobs for themselves and their kids."
Given that [R]s caused the economic mess that we are in now, those people should be admonished to remember the following:

Mitt the Patriot will win going away
I don't find anything patriotic about being a tax evader.
You have to wonder about people that would be more likely to vote for Romney have hearing that he despises half of Americans.
I should hope so. 1 instance shouldn't completely sway your vote. Need to look at everything they've said and done. Republicans of course are the best at trying to turn 1 phrase, even if it's misquoted, into the basis of their entire campaign.
Tax evader, fraud of tax, Medicare, immigration....
Suzanne - All I hear from Romney are announcements, proclamations, declarations, pronouncements, and promises. I've yet to hear HOW he's going to do any of these things
Lots of detail in "Hope & Change" and "Forward"???? Obama has spent one entire year attacking Romney and not told the American people what further disasters he wishes to inflict on us. Will he try to get cap & Trade passed again so we can pay $10 a gallon for gasoline?
Romney is toast and he knows it. When he loses in November, I'm sure he will blame Obama for that too!
Tell me just how has Romney convinced the people who want jobs for themselves, get said jobs by voting for him? When has he ever spelled out any details? So you are tired of the so called "47 percenters" but can accept a multi-millionare not paying any income taxes
I see alot of stupid comments here. The liberal media is in full campaign mode for Obama. This latest story is NOTHING. It will not change anyone's vote either way.
Although I'm not a Romney fan, I can't believe how many people I've seen complain about how high gas prices are (for their oversized SUV), and how high taxes are (though they pay zero after deductions), and how they are underwater on their mortgage (on the house they put zero $ down on), and how high foods costs are (as they sit in a steakhouse on a weeknight), and how high their medical bills are (as they sit on a couch and eat potato chips.
The truth hurts for these people. That's why they hide behind the "victims" to feel like they are part of the action, and to see if they can get a piece of the pie. You know it if you are one of them.
WHEN (and I mean WHEN) President Whoever lets the middle class tax cuts expire in Dec '13 or '14, the average American worker, who currrently makes $50K, will suddenly have to pay $1,700 more annually. That's the current tax savings from the Bush tax cuts, renewed by every Congress since. Can you hear the screaming already? So many people hate when the government takes away something that was handed to them.
Likewise, if we actually took away tax loopholes that forces some of these 47% to actually pay some taxes, you'd hear screaming across the country.
People, the only way we will pay down this 16T debt is if WE ALL chip in and stop the moaning and groaning. The 16T is in OUR pockets, courtesy of tax cuts and other stimulii across ALL income levels.
In the other iReport, one guy name rice, is telling that he is really hurt by the robme comments, but he still for him, see hate for obama is more than anything for him.
Ok, first of all, the 47% he spoke of are HIS voters, look where they are the heaviest, the south! FACT! Romney has no shot at winning, and this is pointless. Even his fat cat Rove is now spending money on down ticket candidates, and no more on Romney. He knows, like anyone else with half a brain, that Romney cant win. Its OVER!
