Brown uses Warren's heritage issue in T.V. spot

(CNN) – Questions over Elizabeth Warren's claims of Native American heritage were revived by her rival for U.S. Senate Monday in a television ad characterizing Warren as untrustworthy.

Sen. Scott Brown, locked in a tight battle with Warren in Massachusetts, also used the topic to attack Warren at a debate last week. He asserts Warren used Native American heritage to help her chances of being hired by Harvard Law School as a professor.

In the 30-second spot, news clips focusing on Warren's claims are used to cast doubt on the former Obama administration official's trustworthiness. In the final clip, a reporter asks Warren if there is anything that will "come out about you that we don't already know."

"I don't think so, but who knows," Warren responds.

Last week, Brown opened an hour-long debate with the issue, claiming Warren wasn't being totally transparent about why she was listed as Native American in official documents at Harvard Law School.

"Professor Warren claimed that she was a Native American, a person of color and as you can see, she's not," Brown said. He repeated his call for his opponent to release records showing whether she had claimed Native American heritage on job applications.

"When you are a U.S. Senator, you have to pass a test and that's one of character and honesty and truthfulness. I believe and others believe she's failed that test," Brown said.

Warren defended her claim, saying that she had learned of her heritage from her family, adding that "my mother was part Delaware and part Cherokee."

Warren has denied that she ever used her heritage to gain access to college or employment.

Previously, Warren has said that she listed herself as having Native American roots while at Harvard University Law School to meet other people with similar backgrounds.

CNN's Kevin Liptak and Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.

Desperate. He can't run on the issues because he doesn't even know what they are. Brown is nothing but another reactionary dimwit conservative panderer who tries to win elections by appealing to peoples' basest emotions.

"as you can see, she's not"

And, as you can see, Brown is a bigot who thinks you can "tell" just by looking at people what their heritage is.

That's all Brownie has and he keeps playing it over and over. That and he wants MA voters to forget he's a republican. Obama is going to take MA by close to 70% – there won't be enough split tickets for Brown to win. Another benefit of running the Mittster for president.

Brown you are toast. Is this the best the GOP can do. Use people's heritage to steal the elections and fool the voters. This same old BS has been used for 31/2 years against President Obama. America wake up and vote Dem all the way. The Republican/TP'ers do not need to be in control of anything. Hopefully we will not see this party for another 20 years., by this time America will be back on track with out their help, because they are not doing anything now.

Is that all Brown's got? And THAT is the ONLY thing he is concerned about? REALLY?

This guy doesn't know much about genetics does he? Well, I suppose he figures if we spend all out time focusing on this non-issue, voters won't notice that there are real issues that need to be addressed that she can challenge him quite forcefully in.

  9. Credibility

Senator Brown unfortunately has chosen to be very shallow with his personal attacks against superficial appearances. Americans should be proud of our heritage no matter how we look.

Brownie saw how great birtherism works for Trump and Mittens, so why not alienate American Indians because you have an opponent who does not look like she is out of the Cowboys and Indians movies of the 1940s.

Scott brown can't run on the issues, so he'll run a smear campaign. I respect Scott brown for his service to this country, but Wall Street's favorite senator needs to get sent packing. Do you think it will be appropriate if Ms. Warren ran ads of Scott Brown pimping out his daughters on the night he was elected?

Pretty soon we'll all have to take DNA tests to prove we're human in order to run for office. I think Brown would fail that one.

So what is his heritage? "Brown" is a color. Sounds like he might be trying to pass as a person of color.

You know, I just don't get his point here, if he has one at all. Is he saying Warren doesn't have any Native American heritage, or that you shouldn't elect someone with Native American heritage? Doesn't sound like he has a leg to stand on. He's just standing on bigotry.

Brown has proven to be a reprehensible person that is not unlike most of the Tea Party Republicans..not real bright.

Elisabeth Warren has more smarts in her little finger than Brown has in total comprehension of anything !

Brown is a bumpkin through and through.

Not riding a horse holding a tomahawk in one hand and a peace pipe in the other? You fail Scott Brown's "Look like a Native Amercian" test.

Me being african-american, understand you can't look at persons skin and determine their nationality. Scott Brown was one of the few Republicans I had respect for.

"Professor Warren claimed that she was a Native American, a person of color and as you can see, she's not," Brown said.

Brown is either very ignorant or he is lying. You cannot tell at a glance whether or not somebody has Native American heritage or not. I have a nephew who is 1/4 Native American and he is blond with blue eyes.

Learn about dominant genes and chromosones, Mr. Brown, and get back to us when you learn a thing or two.

Brown represents everything wrong with Washington, and I hope Ms. Warren sends that message loud and clear. With all the issues to focus on, he decides to take cheap shots at her heritage? Speaking as person whose grandmother was part Navajo, I resent his remarks and fiind them totally offensive. Brown fits in perfectly with his party of division, hate and disrespect and I hope the people of MA send him packing.

  23. Can You Spell - Stoopid ?

    Scott Brown,
Are you going to ask Elizabeth Warren to prove she is a woman
by pulling up her skirt ?

You should have taken a lesson from the Birthers
    and left this one alone.

Now your foot is in your mouth, and you are going
    to lose this election.

    One less Republican,
a giant step forward for America.
