Kent, Ohio (CNN) - Buoyed by a string of recent polls suggesting his lead in Ohio is nearing double digits, President Barack Obama crisscrossed the crucial battleground state on Wednesday and sharpened his attacks on rival Mitt Romney's "47%" comments.
"I don't believe we can get very far with leaders who write off half the nation as a bunch of victims, who never take responsibility for their own lives," Obama told a crowd of more than 5,000 at Bowling Green State University. "I've got to tell you, as I travel around Ohio and as I look out on this crowd, I don't see any victims. I see hard-working Ohioans."

(CNN) – Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney pointed Wednesday to the Massachusetts health reform law he signed – and particularly its coverage of children – when asked about his compassion for middle class people.
Romney raised the law in an interview with NBC News. Conservatives have criticized Romney for supporting the law, which is similar to the health reform law signed by President Barack Obama. Romney has said his law was constitutional and appropriate in Massachusetts, but was not meant to be implemented nationally.

(CNN) - President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney went head-to-head on China, taxes, and jobs on Wednesday as the two campaigned throughout Ohio.
Both sought to illustrate what the next four years would be like under their leadership as new polls indicated Obama exceeding 50% support among likely voters in Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania. Those are all swing states that combined will account for nearly a quarter of the electoral votes needed to win the White House.
FULL STORY(CNN) – Mitt Romney's former rival Newt Gingrich issued a harsh assessment of the GOP nominee's campaign strategy Wednesday, saying Romney's presidential bid was struggling in key battlegrounds against President Barack Obama because of a messaging failure.
"The Romney campaign has yet to find a thematic way of explaining itself and laying out in a clear, crisp way the difference between Romney and Obama. And I think that frankly is a problem," Gingrich said on CNN's "The Situation Room."

DEVELOPING: ALL EYES ON OHIO… Polls show Mitt Romney trailing President Barack Obama in just about every one of the swing states where the 2012 campaign is being waged. But Romney appears to be in deeper trouble in Ohio than elsewhere, an alarming development for Republicans who know that the candidate's White House chances begin and end with the kind of middle-class voters who reside in places such as Akron, Cincinnati and Zanesville. – Peter Hamby

MITT ROMNEY AT A CAMPAIGN EVENT IN OHIO: “A lot of people can talk. Talk is cheap.
