KitchenAid apologizes for tweet insulting Obama

(CNN) - The home appliance brand KitchenAid apologized Wednesday evening for a political tweet sent out from its official account during the presidential debate.

The tweet has been removed but at least a dozen retweets of the post showed it read, "Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! 'She died 3 days b4 he became president.'"

The company apologized in a later post from the same account.

"Deepest apologies for an irresponsible tweet that is in no way a representation of the brand's opinion," the tweet read in part.

The original post would have been in reference to a comment President Barack Obama made during the debate as he spoke about the importance of programs such as Medicare and Social Security.

"You know, my grandmother - some of you know - helped to raise me," Obama said. My grandfather died a while back. My grandmother died three days before I was elected president. And she was fiercely independent. She worked her way up, only had a high school education, started as a secretary, ended up being the vice president of a local bank. And she ended up living alone by choice."

"And the reason she could be independent was because of Social Security and Medicare," he continued.

Cynthia Soledad, KitchenAid's senior director of marketing, said in a statement to CNN: "During the debate tonight, a member of our Twitter team mistakenly posted an offensive tweet from the KitchenAid handle instead of a personal handle. The tasteless joke in no way represents our values at KitchenAid, and that person won't be tweeting for us anymore."

"I am deeply sorry to President Obama, his family, and the Twitter community for this careless error," Soledad said.

Looks like no Kitchen Aid under the Christmas tree this year. What kind of horrible person would say that?

If I were KitchenAid Human Resources, even further, if I were a family member/friend of this individual, I would be very concerned about the mind that could think up something so hateful and disgusting...I'd be completely alarmed that the thought was acted upon. Absolutely do not call for a boycott on KitchenAid, call for the termination and boycott of this individual ever holding another position where he/she can inflict such hate using mass media.

Rod – All companies do not contract out their social media. This could have come from someone in their marketing or communications dept. Either way, they are responsible and this lacked taste, wit, and humor.

Boycott Kitchenaid??? Maybe you can buy your appliances from China now. Way to support your own country, just a bunch of semi-Americans.. We need more countrymen and less whiners with their panties in a bunch over every little non pc comment. Besides , he probably had to off his grandma to prevent her from showing proof that he was not a U.S. citizen. Ha! Hows that for non pc.

There will be no more KitchenAid appliances coming into my house. No problem because their quality (but not their prices) has gone drastically downhill anyway.

You can apologize afterwards-but such a nasty and shameful statement speaks louder. No longer a customer of yours-forever.

I just became a user of Viking appliances. KitchenAid will never get a dime from my wallet again. I'm sick of the way President Obama has been treated by hateful Republicans. Discrimination and intolerance are the predominate values their party stands for.

The Democrats stoop just as low. How about the video of Mitt Romney's trash man (black) complaining that "We are invisible to Mitt". Come on your the trash man, very few people go out of their way to acknowledge you! How about Mitt's auto mechanic, the Dems have paid him to talk trash too! Kitchen Aid does not belive or support that tweet. It all gets this ugly this close to the elections. I will support Kitchen Aid for sure, they have the best appliances, the rest of you can have the walmart brand.

WOW; all the people who ASSUME the lame joke had to come from a Republican rather than someone DUMB enough to post something on the wrong Twitter account. They are just as bad as the lame brain that did the posting. "Stole the election from Gore now trying to steal it from Obama ??" Really ! and you think you are BETTER than the person that did the Twitter posting. Gore couldn't win against a virtually unknown governor after being VP for 8 years. What does that say. Steal the election from Obama ? If he can't hold on to the job after 4 years; he does deserve it any longer. All this ranting over some Tweet done in really bad taste.

Sorry KitchenAid, I will be replacing your products I have at home. Your comment was just plain disrespectful and went way over line. That was just horrible thing to say. You hired those to represent you and in so doing you accept blame for the posts. You know how it works. I do not expect you do go out of business but whatever I can do on my side to not support your products works for me. I am sure there will be a few that does the same as well. But I promise that I will never buy any of your products again. TG and Xmas holidays is coming soon.

This is not the first time a brand has had an employee/social media consultant errantly send a tweet not realizing they were logged onto the brands twitter account. You can't blame kitchen aid.
