Washington (CNN) - The Obama re-election team raised more money last month than any campaign has brought in this election cycle, a Democratic source familiar with the fund-raising totals confirmed to CNN.
The campaign's September total is expected to exceed $150 million, the source said.

That would top the previous monthly record of $114 million for Obama, set in August.
Officials refused to comment on campaign fund-raising numbers as the donations are still being counted.
The fund-raising information was first reported by the Wall Street Journal earlier Thursday.
Making sure each campaign has plenty of cash is key as the critical final weeks of the campaign approach - especially with a vigorous and now escalating TV ad battle ongoing in at least eight swing states.
September started with the Democratic National Convention and a well-received speech by former president Bill Clinton resulting in a bounce in the president's poll numbers. That helped solidify support for the re-election effort.
Obama is jointly raising money with the Democratic National Committee just as Mitt Romney is doing so with the Republican National Committee.
For Obama, August reversed a trend of several months in which Republicans out-raised the Democrats on the presidential front.
Romney brought in $112 million in August.
For the first time in history neither major presidential nominee is accepting federal matching funds in the general election campaign, only intensifying the chase for dollars.
One advantage for the president has been his ability to attract more small donors who can repeatedly give while the Romney campaign has drawn more large dollar contributors. Obama's campaign earlier this week announced it raised money from more than 10 million individual donors.
Romney officials have not yet indicated what their September fund-raising totals. Both campaigns have until October 20 to report their tallies to the Federal Election Commission.

from what hear... much of it from illegal sources... stay tuned...
It came from all of those "rich" people that he hates so much.
Of all the Mitt Romneys will the real Mitt Romney, please will stand up. One thing's for sure he is smarter than Obama, probably the smartest person to run in the 100 years or so in terms of IQ, only Bill Clinton comes close.
Obama doesn't want to win. He is collecting all kinds of money from "small donors" with prepaid VISA cards, but they have all been validated as honest individuals who are supporting Obama (I have a bridge for sale, too). All he wants to do is lose so he and Michelle can go on a long vacation with their billions of dollars from unknown donors. What a country. His desire is to be like Bill and just go around giving teleprompter speeches. His lack of skill as a president is so obvious, he doesn't want to win 4 more years of having to deal with economy or being held accountable.
I said mocked out of presdient obma what about fraud check scam from afrcian amercian
President Obama is truly presidential, who has very smart people on his staff. Keep up the good work !
10 million individual donors and he never forgets to send a thank you card. That's organized!
President Obama works hard for all 100% of the nation.
Is this the money that's under investigation because it came from shady temporary credit cards overseas?
that's right! Obama 2012!
President Obama will continue to work hard everyday to ensure all Americans get a fair shot at achieving the American dream. He's been doing this his whole adult life.
Only problem is that if you give Obama money he will send you a zillion emails a day asking for more. Several times a day I get emails from both Obamas asking for $19 more.
@BarackObama i know you have done a great job for all Americans. you have made a lot of progress during your presidency as you promised and i appreciated. Also some people should not make a poor judgment on last night debate about you. They should look what you have done for them and do better critical analysis to make a better decision for there president.
All that money should be use to help Americans struggling or schools or create jobs. It's a shame how we talk about money being raise but not about millions going to bed hungry each night!!!
This is what Romney said: the rich are good, don't tax the rich because the rest of you depend on them for jobs. Seniors 60 and over, you'll keep your Medicare, why worry about the rest of them? I can lower taxes 20 percent for everyone, increase military spending, make education better, provide great healthcare and lower the deficit – trust me. When questioned how that will work, he said " everything the President said is just not true" just like that. I can win a debate too if I just offer pie in the sky. How can you shoot this moving target? He has no principles! Remember 2007 – that's people like him!
Good !
Be aggressive–I M sending you, god bless you. Obama12.
Being 60 years old, I prefer substance over style. I predict contributions to Obama will increase. Romney's Etch-A-Sketch move during the debate has scared the carp out of me, so I am sending more. The Republican nickname for Bill Clinton was "Slick Willie". Mitt's debate performance was slicker than snail snot, but at least Bill told the truth when it came to the nation. If you buy the used car Slick Mitt is selling, you will need bus tickets or a good pair shoes.
I think maybe the fatal mistake Obama made was sacrificing North Carolina for Florida. Winning Ohio, Virginia and Florida is *one* way to do it but it's not the *only* way. (Play around with cnn's great electoral map and you'll see what I mean.) I think Obama might have had a pretty good chance to win by getting Colorado, North Carolina, and that "whole bunch." Is winning *all* three of the so-called crucial swing states actually all that much more-likely? He should have let Florida go in favor of North Carolina. As it stands, I hear Harvard Law School is probably going to be in the market for a new Professor soon.
Stress on 47%. Bain out source, his sayings like corporation is also people my friend, let GM be bankrupt etc, china outsource... I will teach you...bin laden kill... Ads stay continued. Americans are not dumb...they are darn smart. Obama12.
It is puzzling-"for the people" it this a lip service or through from the heart. With the millions in hand either of the candiates make any comments about donation some funds to the poor.
Aren't you people who are Republicans ever satisfied – saying that President Obama's donations are coming from illegal sources. Never mind the wealthiest Republicans have donated so much to Romney's campaign they could of brought down the deficit and still have money left over to feed and house the people who are suffering that Romney claims he wants to help. Why don't you people get real.
I used to think Obama had some intelligence, but now I see without his teleprompter he is an empty suit. Voting for Romney!
Sure Obama set a 'fundraising record', all it took was:
– Handing a NATO ambassador job to Haim Saban's unqualified wife for money and favorable Univision coverage.
– Illegal campaign contributions from untraceable pre-paid credit cards that allow donors to exceed donation limits.
– Contributions from foreign countries, in some cases those countries of our enemies.
– Pressuring the unions to dig deeper or else.
– False accounting.
Hustle man, Hustle man!
Everyday he's hustlin'.......
