Obama campaign breaks fund-raising record

Washington (CNN) - The Obama re-election team raised more money last month than any campaign has brought in this election cycle, a Democratic source familiar with the fund-raising totals confirmed to CNN.

The campaign's September total is expected to exceed $150 million, the source said.

That would top the previous monthly record of $114 million for Obama, set in August.

Officials refused to comment on campaign fund-raising numbers as the donations are still being counted.

The fund-raising information was first reported by the Wall Street Journal earlier Thursday.

Making sure each campaign has plenty of cash is key as the critical final weeks of the campaign approach - especially with a vigorous and now escalating TV ad battle ongoing in at least eight swing states.

September started with the Democratic National Convention and a well-received speech by former president Bill Clinton resulting in a bounce in the president's poll numbers. That helped solidify support for the re-election effort.

Obama is jointly raising money with the Democratic National Committee just as Mitt Romney is doing so with the Republican National Committee.

For Obama, August reversed a trend of several months in which Republicans out-raised the Democrats on the presidential front.

Romney brought in $112 million in August.

For the first time in history neither major presidential nominee is accepting federal matching funds in the general election campaign, only intensifying the chase for dollars.

One advantage for the president has been his ability to attract more small donors who can repeatedly give while the Romney campaign has drawn more large dollar contributors. Obama's campaign earlier this week announced it raised money from more than 10 million individual donors.

Romney officials have not yet indicated what their September fund-raising totals. Both campaigns have until October 20 to report their tallies to the Federal Election Commission.

I'll be donating every week until our President is re-elected! It's impossible to cut taxes, increase military spending, close loop holes, and strengthen the middle class like Romney claims. Don't believe the hype!

    FORWARD! OBAMA 2012

What a waste of money for everyone on all sides.

This country needs serious campaign finance reform.

We need to get all corporations, organizations and secret contributions out of the campaign picture completely.

Looks like Obama's puppeteer, George Soros, opened up his wallet to try to keep his well-trained puppet in office. Nice try, George, but Americans have finally wised up. Turns out, we really don't like your Socialist agenda after all, and we are voting in Mitt Romney to clean up Obama's (and your) mess.

Our political campaign is no different than horse racing, another exceptional for the U.S., besides we hold our election on Tuesday. Many things we do in the US are not very advnced and efficient compared to other advanced countries.

I refuse to go back to the Bush Years of trickle down economics b/c I've seen where that got us. Been there, done that and we're still trying to recover. Romney is trying to take us back and I love my country too much to let him succeed!

    Obama 2012! FORWARD!!

Romney embraced all the Tea-Party ideas just to win their vote to get the nomination. Now that he is nominated, he will change his positions and he will embrace all Obama's popular policies and successes and at the same time aggressively blame Obama for all his un-accomplishments. So now and until election he will sound more like a moderate republican just to get the center votes. Wondering what will happen to Tea Party? They won't say a word because they don't care what Romney says as long as Obama is defeated. They hate Obama more than they like Romney.
IF Romney can manage to "fool" the independents to get their vote and get elected ...Which Romney he will become as a president ???? Well, that's a 5 Trillion dollar question

I know I'll be sending as much as I can to Romney. 4 more years of this insanity along with another $6 TRILLION in debt is NOT an option. Our country will not survive another 4 years of Obama. The "lost decade" will turn into the "lost country".

Hey geek, that's like your an anarchist, and you would join the anarchist party/ another oxymoron. Independant means independant, you would rather see a third option. These are the two options you have and by voting republican, your no longer independant. You've had to much of Mittens Koolaid.

    Lucid One

OBJECTIVEGUY. I guess you missed to point about 10 Million individual donors.. Yes Mitt did well in the debate. he has been running (not working but still living off the fat of his investments) for 6 years. and had +20 debates just this election cycle. So he should have done well. Of course he had to back track most of the positions he held during the primaries... So the question for you republican voters..... who is the real Mitt?? As for the economy.... Profits are down slightly for the big corporations this year, but they were at 60 year highs last year. With all these profits, they have records numbers of cash in the banks, last I saw was +4 trillion. The stock market is near the record highs of 2007 prior to the crash... So how is that bad for buisiness???? Yet the repiblicans claim big buisiness needs more tax relief so they have the money to hire more. I guess the trickle down theory only works when companies make obscene profits. But if they are sitting on that much cash, why will they suddenly start hiring only if they get more??

Now Romney is apologizing for the 47% comment...."I'm sorry , I was wrong...
give me a break – does he think we are stupid?
He has flopped around more than anyone I've seen.
He meant that comment when he said because it fit for the moment....
and now it fits to say he was sorry....and he was so rude in the debate...fidgety and uppity...
how can you even listen to him ?
how can you believe in or vote for this man...
    PLEASE VOTE!!!!!
    VOTE OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he gets all his money from a very small group of very rich people to whom he is beholden. Obama gets his from lots of poorer people and I prefer he be beholden to them. As I am more like them!

  13. Go MItt!!

Oprah lost sleep after the debates. She is scared "her" president is not going to get re-elected so she threw a bunch of money at his campaign. Face it all you obama supporters he is a failed president and was not ready to be in the position he is in. He will go down as the worst president in history. If you keep him in as president it will only get worse for him and America. Personally I think he should resign. I am proud to say I didn't vote for him. Go Mitt!!!!!!!!!!!!

objectiveguy....boy, I sure did enjoy the debate....loved to see Obama beat Romney like an old drum with the facts, while he let the etch-a-sketcher make it up as he went along....only to have the fact checkers, afterwards, hand Obama the win by better than a 2-1 margin. Well, you self-styled neo-conservatives were never strong on the facts, were you? Its all about the fairytale....seen everyday on FUX news....Soros, socialists, Obama's mess......so I see you're even taking notes on the fairytale, so you can repeat it like a trained parrot! What pure, unembarrassed delusion! God I do love stupid people who can't even keep their own lies straight.

GOBAMA – LOL – the republicans put a moderate in there – LOL – and the "moderate" (the guy who is supposed to be in the "middle of the road" ) Can't win – NOW -he's saying he's "sorry" for the 47% comment ?? Hello ? This guy Finally decides to repudiate this comment ?? This sounds like there is a snake in the woodshed somewhere. WoW ! ( this guy keeps lying constantly) one of these days he's going to have to cover up for the last lie he told, and it will continue. LOL – what a farce Romney is – I mean, he may be a great husband / father / & everything else, but this guy isn't qualified to be in that oval office.
Vote Democrat – 2012 ( for us "working" middle class – making under 85K per yr. per household)

I see...when BIG MONEY is in the OBAMA house...it's "O.K"....when money is even mentioned in the same sentence with Romney, it's "EVIL" and "VILIFIED" ..... Noooooo, no bias at all.

Liberals are PROs at bending, twisting, and outright bypassing that which doesn't fit THEIR wants and needs.....which we see continually in the narratives they force upon others:
[1] Occupy Wall Streeters...trashing entire areas, burning buildings, pooping on police cars, and carrying signs of "who" and "what" they hate....then TURN RIGHT AROUND and whip out an iPhone (100% outsourced to china)... go deposit their $ in banks (which they supposedly hate)...and tweet their friends using an internet (created by the dept. of defense...which they also hate...also the people that enable to have the freedoms they enjoy btw)
[2] ACTORS....you know, the people who live in the FAKE WORLD...and know zero about the REAL WORLD...including the pencil neck talk show hosts who back seat drive everyone else then do NOTHING themselves
[3] HIPPIES, ARTISTS, COLLEGE BRATS....same as actors...living in the FAKE WORLD (college brats think they know it all then reality hits them when the babies, bills, and bosses are SCREAMING at them).

...Liberals live in a universe where economic laws, and reality are discretionary. Wouldn't THAT be nice if it were true?

If we put all the money spent on campaigns this year toward paying off the deficit, we could make a dent in the deficit. How many robo calls, emails, tweets, and stupid ads are really making a difference anyway? They don't impact my opinion at all. If our "leaders" think that spending a fortune on campaigns is a good use of money, we need leaders who have better ideas than that.
