Obama raises $181 million in September, campaign says

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's campaign raised $181 million in September, out-raising by far its previous monthly record, the campaign said in online posts Saturday.

CNN reported earlier this week that a Democratic source with knowledge of the fundraising numbers expected the haul to top $150 million. Obama’s previous monthly record was $114 million, reached in August. Republican challenger Mitt Romney raised $112 million that month.

The Obama campaign said in Saturday morning posts to Twitter that the contributions came from 1.8 million individual donors, including 567,000 from donors who had not previously contributed. The campaign said a total of 3.9 million people have donated to the campaign this year.

The average donation was $53, the campaign said, and 98% of donations were under $250.

The Democratic National Convention, which included a well-received speech by President Bill Clinton, occurred in September. The first presidential debate, which was widely seen as a win for Romney, came after the September books were closed.

Obama’s campaign hasn’t said how much cash it has on hand, an important figure as the campaigns enter the final month before the election and a costly advertising battle in eight swing states.

Both the Obama and Romney camps are fundraising with their party committees. Romney has not yet disclosed his September fundraising numbers.

Weird; Romney wins a debate and Obama sets a fund-raising record. Weren't we expecting it to be the other way around?

Our brave men and women risking their lives for us, for our freedoms, and they have Democrats at home doing all they can to take away our military's vote.

People with good in their hearts know they have a moral obligation to vote Republican. The hate that consumes each Obama bot is a new low for our country.

It is sad that you cannot read anything from a Democrat that is not all hate and lies. Read the comments from the libs here at CNN, Obama says he wants to punish every American who doesn't vote Democrat because his base supports it fully.

Just donated $50 to Obama's campaign. I believe President Obama will help all Americans. Romney thinks 47% of Americans are parasites.

President Obama and Democrats raised $181 million — the best month of his reelection bid.
It appears that Mr. Obama put himself on the ropes deliberately. The strategy was brilliant they pulled on Mitt Romney what is known as The Muhammad Ali Rope-a- Dope. This means there is a universal Big Bang about to happen in the next debate. Bye-Bye, Mr. Romney, you’ve shot your best shot with Snake Oil and now you have some serious explaining to do.

Obama owes a big thanks to Romney for this record breaking amount of money raised, everytime Mitts opens his mouth people donate to Obama and the whopper was the 47% video when Mitts finally told the truth about how he really feels about most Americans. This is a big accomplishment and it proves that the middle class are fighting hard to keeep Obama in the Whitehouse and to think that it was in part due to Mitts getting caught telling the truth for once !

Well, according to the media, Mitt Romney now has the presidency all wrapped up. Not sure I'm buying it, but then again I CAN imagine my fellow Americans going all out to vote in a pathological liar as president. What they will expect of him and what he'll deliver is another thing altogether. But, hey. Romney's showing us his kinder, gentler self now. And he promises – no matter what – he'll THINK of us ... all 100% of us. And he won't cut taxes on the rich after all. And he won't cut funding for ANYTHING. And he'll add 12 million jobs. And he'll increase military spending. And he'll balance the budget and reduce the deficit also too.

Good post. In all honesty to Mitt Romney, he DID promise to fire my friend Big Bird. And Mr. Lehrer ... after he told Mr. Lehrer not to take it personal cuz he likes them both. Priorities, you understand. Sesame Street style.

I don't know that Romney was lying in what he said, because it is different from what he has said before, and that was different than before, and that was different than what he said before....odds are that since he saying "everything and anything" (depending upon which way the wind blows), eventually he might get something right. I have never been so turned off by a candidate, as I am with Romney (no wonder they didn't even want him 4 years ago and really didn't want him this time either).

Here's what the Democrats ought to do: Ask for a fourth Debate where Romney gets to debate himself. They might need to set up four podiums so that "all the Romney's" get a fair hearing......

    What I'm seeing:
Obama Democrat Adminstration - spend into oblivion (we are already beyond return and can't pay this debt back)
Romney Republican Administration - cut, hack, and slash spending (but it won't be in military and big business like it has to be)

Bottom line, what is going to happen to the American people the next year to five years? What are they going to do to us?

Campaign money is not everything. Romney apparently put all of his campaign money into debate prep. What Obama needs to do with his campaign money is to remind voters about the rest of Romney's campaign. Just because Romney decided to reinvent himself completely at the debate does not mean voters should forget who Romney was before the debate. The numbers in Romney's tax plan still do not add up, and Romney still has not released his tax returns. Do we believe in the Romney who said before the debate that he stood behind what he said about the 47%, or the Romney who now says that he is completely wrong about the 47%?
