Stakes get higher in upcoming Biden-Ryan debate

(CNN) - A former senator vs. a congressman. A Catholic vs. a Catholic. A policy wonk vs. an experienced speaker. The elements are in place for an interesting debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan.

And Sunday marked Round II of the expectations game, as campaign advisers and surrogates sought to set the stage for Thursday's showdown.

  1. The Truth...

Biden is a "Catholic" in name only. Poor conscience formation and poor understaning of the teachings within his own faith. Very sad.

This debate isn`t about making Ryan look bad, it`s about making Romney look bad.

Biden should press Ryan to enumerate Romney`s tax plan in NUMBERS since Romney said %5 Trillion [over 10 years] wasn`t the number.

The Obama team needs to seize on the human distrust of secretive Romney ever so slightly. Biden should say: "Mr. Ryan, the American people may or may not agree with YOUR TEAM`s tax reform plan but IF you want to occupy the Whitehouse, they insist on knowing precisely what it is. You guys are good at the numbers I`m told. So in 1 of those simple "whiteboard" or Powerpoint presentations, give us the puts & takes in your tax plan and let Americans determine if it is credible"

Biden should use those EXACT words to embarass the GOP into telling 67 million people the specifics. The President can then finish Romney off in DEBATE No. 2.

I'd say Biden and Ryan are both policy wonks.

This should be on pay for view. We have possibly the most intelligent vice presidential candidate ever debating the dumbest idiot ever to be vice president. Joes got to be soiling his pants about now!

Lying through a debate is now a "winning" strategy? Lying through a campaign is going to be the way "forward" for America? Mitt Romney promises one flip flop after another, and somehow, the majority of Americans are now swayed to "his" side? Doubtful at best.

In the past two years alone, America has seen just what a Mitt Romney presidency would do to America simply by seeing what living through one Republican controlled state after another has done for America. Lost wages. Lost jobs. Lost voting rights. Lost women's rights. And now - because Romney managed to lie his way through a debate in a manner no other candidate would have been allowed to lie and not been laughed off the stage by our American media - he is slated to win the election regardless of his lies? Give me a freaking break.

@TheTruth: Considering that a catholic priest and the Nuns on a Bus have criticized Paul Ryan for saying his tax plan is based on his faith, since they believe its far from it, don't you think you should be referring to Ryan and not Vice President Biden in your statement?

Joe Biden is more man, more Catholic, smarter, wiser and way more truthful than Ryan can ever dream to be. You dont govern as a Catholic or any other domination for that matter.Even the Catholic church call lian Ryan and his policies IMMORAL.

Ryan will hold his own with Biden, though Biden will be on his good behavior and try to keep his foot out of his mouth. Yeah, the 47% will come up and actually it's 49.5% that pay no taxes and since I'm too old to hold a job, I'm one of those and I WILL NEVER vote for OBAMA/BIDEN! If Medicare and Social Security isn't reformed it will just suddenly go away-bankrupt..Bain Capital is a good company and saved a goodly number of troubled companies and the jobs that were with them.

@Gurgyl, I think you're asking too much from that poor old man.
He is a lose screw without a thread and if he usually says the dumbest things with prepared speeches, I can only imagine what he'll say ad lib.

Anyway, be careful what you wish for my little blind sucking creature, you might just get it and with a twist.

Is the stakes higher for Ryan because his mentor Ayn Rands book Atlas Shrugged ,now a movie is coming out,wow just at the right time, are the movie creators Democrates or what!!Can Ryan lie like the pathelogical liar Romney can,was he taught right, can a catholic alter boy lie like a whore in church, maybe for the position he wants as VP,he'd probibly sell his soul for that position wouldn't he!!We'll see at the debates just how much he let's out and if he gives us his own policies or those of his bosses Romney,he is egotistical and I wouldn't put it past him to slip one in on the STENCH his brother in arms right!!Biden will be waiting with open arms to mop the floor with Romneys sidekick Ryan,he's not as polite as the incumbent so hold your ears it may get nasty, but politics like these always are ,right!!

I would rather have Reince Priebus debate a weale on the issue of why Priebus is actually more weaslly than a weasle.

By the way, what a transparent strategy – tell everybody how great the other guy is so that unless Ryan drools on himself, the GOP can claim a "blockbuster" victory in the incredibly relevant and important VP debates.

All Biden needs to do is stand there and say the truth about healthcare. Romney wants to use overburdened, expensive emergency rooms for health care because he thinks it's free..(his words) it's not. His plan for preexisting conditions will eliminate healthcare for about 70 million Americans right out of the gate, that's allowing 50,000 Americans to die this year for absolutely No reason other than their 'politics'. The only way a preexisting person can get healthcare under Romney is if they had it recently (if they had it recently it wouldn't be an issue..duh). Romney will destroy any chance of healthcare in this country, it will be a luxury item that few Americans can afford.

@The Truth,we need more than a catholic at this point .Bidens going to show that Ayn Rand diciple what the floor looks like at floor level , he's not the polished ,polite one like the incumbent,he's the dog that definitly has the bite and the old political hardknocks smarts it takes to put a preppy where he belongs,on a trip back to Wisconsin to lick his wounds!!

So long the debate remain factual on both fronts it will be a dandy. I was disappointed of the Presidential debate a – one-sided factual debate.
