Biden in Delaware for debate prep

Washington (CNN) – Vice President Joe Biden is currently in Wilmington, Delaware prepping for the vice presidential debate Thursday. However, the Obama campaign does not expect Biden, a former senator and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to make up for the president's showing in the first presidential debate, according to multiple Democratic sources.

While Obama campaign senior adviser David Axelrod is on hand in Delaware, sources told CNN his presence is not a reaction to the president's weak showing at the Denver debate and that Axelrod was previously scheduled to attend. The vice president's preparations are being run by his former chief of staff Ron Klain, who is in charge of the president's prep as well.

Biden started his debate practice Sunday and will continue through Wednesday for a total of four days of prep, according to an administration official.

Political watchers are increasingly focused on Thursday's vice presidential showdown following Obama's lackluster performance last week against Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The debate is the next of three more matchups in the presidential campaign. The vice presidential running mates meet this week and the presidential candidates debate again the two following weeks.

In last week's debate, senior Democrats said the president and his team were not expecting Romney to direct his message to political moderates. This surprise, they said, contributed to his performance.

Members of the president's team said Romney's statements during the debate about defunding PBS and Big Bird left an opening on which the president could seize. Obama has since targeted the GOP candidate over the remarks during campaign stops.

As the first presidential debate ended, senior surrogates for the Obama campaign were noticeably absent from the "spin room" where both sides attempt to put the best face on their candidate's performance. Representatives for Romney had the assembled media pretty much to themselves for the first ten minutes post-debate.

At the time, Axelrod was one of at least a half dozen people on a conference call that started as the first presidential debate ended Thursday night, according to an administration official. Axelrod, along with White House senior adviser David Plouffe, campaign manager Jim Messina, White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer, deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter and former White House communications director Anita Dunn participated in the call, which may have contributed to the Democrats' delay.

What? Biden is preparing for something that his boss couldn't be boithered with? Hmmm.

  2. A Democrat who's Honest about Obama

Too bad it's not Biden prepping for his VP Deabte as Vp for Hillary Clinton. Democratic America lost this election four years ago by picking the "star" over the candidate best suited for the job in Hillary Clinton.

Obama's big mistake was no dunking on Romney's head every time Romney let out big lies like he doesn't know where 5 trillion in tax cuts are coming from (he does), and his plan allows for people with preexisting conditions (it doesnt) and he doesn't know anything about tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas (he does). I think Biden is going to smack Lyin' Ryan upside the head every 2 minutes with the truth.

Poor Biden he must sick of listening to Obama's excuses for his bad performance which in reality proves that this is the real Obama (without his famous teleprompter telling him what to say, well scripted points, pre-rehearsed movements, pre-planned smiles, a complete Hollywood package). I guess it is up to Biden to carry Obama and win Obama his re-election.

I love Lyin' Ryin's comment to his conservative base about Joe coming on full steam without regard to the truth. Guess Ryan doesn't look in the mirror much, eh?

All I care is that if Biden gets crushed too, that my fellow Democrats aren't scrambling to cook up BS excuses and reasons.

Joe, give him all the rope to hang himself with. Lyin' Ryan says he doesn't have enough time to get into the math of their budget. i say give him all the time he needs. I want to see how this funny math works.

This guy Ryan is a jerk but Biden is too smart to let him jerk him around. Ryan has convienced the GOP that's he's the smartest guy walking, with his budget plan, but he can't and won't convience voters because we're smarter.

I just smell our Middle Class getting the shaft if Romney wins this election.
First off, his 20% "across the board" tax cut will NOT help most Americans if the FICA rate jumps back to 7.5%. (FICA is hardly a factor to the rich because of the cap.) Increase in FICA will wipe out Romney's cut for most of us.
Second – that 47% that currently pay no income tax? NO HELP from Romney's cut for them. And since they've always paid FICA, they're looking at an INCREASE in their federal taxes under Mitt, for he will surely let the current temporary cut expire.
That leaves only the rich. Let's take Romney, for example. With the current cap, his FICA rate on that $13 Million-dollar income is .0085% – not even 1/100th of a percent. So HIS 20% cut will be REAL. Add in his plan to further reduce capital gains rates and eliminate the estate tax, and it's a HUGE win for the Romney class.
Yup. We'll get screwed, alright. Amazing nearly 50% of Americans are ready to stick it to themselves – AGAIN.

The Obama campaign is prepping Biden to keep his mouth shut as much as possible in hopes that the human gaffe-o-rama machine buffoon does as little damage to their flailing campaign.

    FIFY, guys.

Biden – 3 DAYS before the first Presidential debate: "For the last 4 years the Private sector has been dead in the water!"

What a gift he is to Romney! Keep it up, old man – you could save America by stomping all over Obama's chance in Nov.

I think the President and the Vice President got their preparation notes mixed up. I think they were supposed to tell Biden to keep his mouth shut and just let the President do all the talking. It was a communication malfunction.

How dare Romney attempt to cut spending while the U.S. debt is in the the trillions and California's going bankrupt! What nerve! Obama needs to show him a thing or two!

I think it was a communications malfunction for the Democrats. I think they mixed up the prep notes for Obama and Biden. Biden's notes said keep your mouth shut and Obama's said speak your mind. That said, the VP debate should be hilarious. Send in the old guy.

They should put the debate on a pay channel only (maybe $1.00) to watch the debates and then all the money goes to support some charity or program like schools or something. Could you imagine if there were 60 million viewers like the last debate? Just to see what happens. If you have a TV you can afford $1.00.

Paul Ryan needs prep to work up the numbers. Hope he has enough time to answer his/Romney budget questions. Remember he said " We welcome this debate, we look forward to this debate, we will win this debate." Go getem Joe

Really???? If the FICA rate goes back up (it was lowered by 2%), they won't get helped by a 20% (TEN TIMES) cut on the other side??? Really????? Where did you learn math??????
