Romney knew ex-SEAL slain in Benghazi

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) – Mitt Romney knew one of the former Navy SEALs killed in this year's Sept. 11 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, he told an Iowa audience Tuesday.

The GOP presidential nominee choked up as he described meeting the man his campaign confirmed was Glen Doherty, who was killed in the Libya attack.

"We had a lot of things in common," Romney said of Doherty, recalling the two had skied at some of the same places, and that when they met Doherty had discussed his care and concern for people he had met working in the Middle East. "You can imagine how I felt when I found out that he was one of the two former Navy SEALs killed in Benghazi on Sept. 11th."

Romney only recently learned for certain that Doherty was the same man he had met at a party in La Jolla, California, a campaign spokesman said.

Reminiscing on a windy Tuesday in Iowa, Romney cited reports on CNN International that Doherty had left a safe location to rush to the aid of the consulate under attack last month.

"They didn't hunker down where they were in safety – they rushed there to go help," Romney said, tying that spirit to his candidacy. "This is the American way – we go where there's trouble. We go where we're needed. And right now we're needed."

The two men met under unlikely – and humorous – circumstances, Romney said. Several years ago he and his wife Ann headed out for a neighborhood party but did not confirm the address on their invitation.

"We went over, knocked on the door, they let us in 'good to see you' when we came in," Romney said. "We had dinner together and got our pictures with everyone."

"Turns out, this wasn't the neighborhood party," he continued, to laughter from the audience. "This was a family having a party with their friends all right?"

How dare Mitt Romney to say "we go where there's trouble, we go where needed" when talking about Mr. Doherty. Mr. Doherty answered "the call of duty" and Mitt Romney ran from "the call of duty". There is no history of any Romney answering the "call of duty" so don't insult this family or my five(5) brothers who did answer "the call of duty". Mitt Romney is not an honorable man and unfit to lead.

When there is real trouble the Romney family is nowhere to be found. He holed up in France during the Vietnam war for 4 years with the Mormon Church on a mission (Wow). And none of his 5 sons have never served in uniform like most of us.

Oh give it a rest, President Clinton didn't serve in Vietnam either.

Obama's administration is incompetent and a disaster and the details keep coming out that proof so.

When the IRS checks his past tax returns, Rmoney's tax liability will be a lot greater than what he has paid. And, he will be going to the Big House instead of the White House.

The head of the Mormon church says Rmoney does not represent their values, and he would not vote for him. E'nuf said!

You people who keep lying and saying that the Obama administration is a disaster should give it up. The housing market is up, the stock market is up and the unemployment numbers are down. Give it up. Mittens and Lying Ryan will be the death of this country if they get in because they will continue to follow the policies that the last GOP administration followed. THAT did not work well for the country. I wonder, WHEN Mittens starts war with Iran, will his five progeny serve in the military? Hahahah! I seriously doubt it.

Romney will say and do anything for a sympathy vote, how pathetic this opportunist is and this goes for all his supporters who are still locked in Romney's proverbial cage of lies. You right wing people want this so bad, you would curse your own kids for an Obama lost.

It's hard to believe that some Americans are going to vote for Romney when he hasn't even told the American people:
    1. What he plans to do with Medicaid
    2. What he plans to do with Medicare
    3. What he plans to do with Social Security
    4. What tax deductions he'll do away with
    5. And 10 or 12 more things he's hiding.....

For people to vote without even knowing the candidates and what they stand for just shows the stupidity of some voters!

truth is, truth hurts, that Obama will have to account for the situation surrounding the attack in Libya. now while I'm glad you are so concerned about this presidential accounting, I'm a bit confused as to why your type never held Bush to account for his incredible tally "of MANY people have paid with their lives because of the incompetence". Strange you should seek accountability from only [D] administrations. Aaah, but I guess when you have to deal with such a myriad of intellectual debilitations, 'hypocrisy' is not high on your list.

    @ – Howard

Our military HATES Obama ... who:
    * returns combatants to the battle field to kill our soldiers
    * leaks information and withdraw dates to our enemies
    * is making huge cutbacks on our military spending
    * orders our embassy guards to use unloaded weapons
    * uses and exploits our soldiers for political photo ops
    * doesn't allow our soldiers to fight to WIN
    * apologizes to our enemies
    * holds back absentee ballots to our soldiers
It is so easy to stop a GOP enabler. Just follow the trail of lies The wilder the lies, the more staunch the GOPer is. If you didn't have a problem with how Bush you cannot possibly have a problem with Obama. He is STILL trying to sop up the mess left by the last GOP regime.

Romney expresses concern over a man he knew that had died in Benghazi. Obama expresses no concern over a man he didn't know that he allowed to die in Benghazi. Yet his drooling supporters continue to want the worst president in American history to continue on.
How the hell do you know that he expressed no concern? Just because he did not go out and stage a bit of grief for the cameras? What a sick SOB you are. As far as being a drooling supporter, you've lashed yourself to a man who is a pathological liar: McCain passed him over for Palin, for God's sake.

Has this man absolutely NO shame?
This is so tasteless using this man's death whether he knew him or not for political gain......a month after the fact even.
Anything for a vote is right.

hey a-ho%% how about a little respect for the brave seal who gave his life. If Oblunder would have had his head in the game instead at clueless cloonenys house maybe just maybe this brave soul would be alive. Either obummer lied or was just inept at heeding to the warnings either way its a failure.
if you give Oblameo credit for Bin laden they you have to take the hit for the lack of leadership of this poor man, who i believe if they had thier head in the game instead of paryting would be alive

Do republicans really think that the failed governor of MA, who was 47th in job creation, added $2.6 billion to the MA debt, outsourced MA government jobs to India, raised taxes over 700 times, and left MA with a popularity rating in the low 30, will be a success as president?
