Obama: 'could not be prouder' of Biden debate

(CNN) - President Barack Obama called Vice President Joe Biden shortly after Thursday's vice presidential debate, and told reporters that he "could not be prouder" of his running mate.

"I'm going to make a special point of saying I thought Joe Biden was terrific," he told reporters after Air Force One landed near Washington. "I could not be prouder of him. I thought he made a very strong case. And you know I really think that his passion for making sure that the economy grows for the middle class came through so I'm really proud of him."

It is highly unusual for Obama to approach reporters in this fashion after deplaning.

Obama also posted a tweet to his official Twitter feed after the debate.

"Tonight proved once again that you won't find a better and more tireless advocate for the middle class than @JoeBiden. -bo #TeamJoe," he wrote.

Obama was to watch at least part of the debate while flying back from Florida, where he held an earlier campaign fundraiser in Miami.

@Bruddah who asked if anyone really wants Biden to be next in line – are you aware that he is the CURRENT VP??? Some of these comments make me wonder if it isn't already too late for this country. I will take Biden over hot shot kid Ryan any day.

hey ron. you know what worse then biden being a jerk. Romney using dead people as a political gain. after 5-6 hour past death. Now that is a disgrace of a leader. Just as worse as the westboro baptist church.

I thought I was watching a Batman movie. Biden played the Joker role. Ryan played Robin and kicked butt. He had control of the facts while Biden could only smirk, laugh, and grimace. when your on the defensive, have no record, you have to revert to other tactics such as distraction, interruptions, etc. What we saw was a professional, mature Paul Ryan and a rude, discourteous, clown in Joe Biden.

The GOP is not even the same party it used to be. It is now the American Taliban. The GOP is run by xstian fanatics who care only about religious delusions, not about this country. Vote the Talibangelicals out of our government. Ryan is a sick religious freak of a liar, who would FORCE A WOMAN TO GIVE BIRTH TO THE CHILD OF HER RAPIST if he had his way.
How any woman can vote for the GOP is a mystery to me, they have to be brainwashed.

It's hysterical how the Romney supporters are acting so upset over Biden's manner. What's the matter, you can dish it out but can't take it? Biden was great and, like Obama, couldn't believe the "malarkey" coming out of Ryan's mouth so laughing was his reaction to it. Romney was totally rude, didn't follow the rules, plowed over the moderator and interrupted the President but that's fine by you as long as it's your guy being aggressive. Get over yourselves – you lost this one big time. Obama/Biden for sure!

I have no issues whatsoever with the tone of last night's debate. When your opponents are a joke you laugh at them.

Just the fact that Obama/Biden will fight to save Medicare and a woman's right to choose should be enough for many folks to vote for this team again. As a woman in her early 50's I deserve to have the Medicare I've paid into for over 30 years (as well as Social Security), and I want woman to continue to have choices that we've fought so hard for.

Gavin – did you forget that Ryan and Romney will low tax to people? it means wealthy people will get double rich just like Bush did to low tax rate in past. rich got richer. Debates do not make matter to me. See Bush won debates and re-election then what happen? Economy went bad and we paid trillion tax to war. unemployment was high. Remember debates do not mean anything. Trust me on that.

Biden totally had control. Ryan deer in headlights on Iran and that 5 trilion tax cut and abortion was telling. Disappointed only that Biden didn't tell why: Ryan sponsored an "egg" bill with Akins, you know, the guy that said a female body was built to Not get pregnated after being raped.

Last nights debate proved to me that once again the Obama Administration has no idea what this COUNTRY needs or wants. After his showing in the debate with Romney, O's supporters, especially those in the biased media, were out for blood. What they didn't seem to understand about Romney's performance though is that he spoke from the heart. No teleprompter can offer that kind of insight or emotion. The O Administration listened to the likes of Chris Wallace and etc. They trained Biden to be an attack dog and he did so accordingly. Problem is, American's don't want hotel debate practiced aggression, they want the truth! Hell, we even let a little BS slip in from time to time because we are human but the O Administration isn't truly worried about what WE want are they? According to most polls, Ryan won on style points alone, if nothing else. At this time in our history...I'll take that! ROMNEY/RYAN 2012!!

@Robert, with all due respect, your candidate was doing the same thing with another family who asked him to quit. Now, the real tragedy with your comment is that with things going on like BENGHAZI, YEMEN, SYRIA, IRAN and our economic problems at home, the most relevant issue you could bring up was that garbage.

Gavin, it's quite apparent you and I watched two different debates. Ryan couldn't provide any specifics on any of Romney's proposed plans and Biden only interrupted Ryan when he spoke an outright lie. That's where Obama got in trouble by allowing Romney to say anything he wanted without calling him out. I will say I found the debate very entertaining though.

I thought Joe Biden did a good job. And in wrapping up, he made it a real point to emphasize that he (Biden) means what he says and does what he says he is going to do. Something it seems imossible for Mitt Romney. And there were times n the debate when Biden seemed to have Ryan flummoxed, searching for a rationale which would not come. So I think.

The complaints and the breast-beating about the grimaces and the "malarkey" and the interruptions is hystrionics. If a man is trying to sell a load of "stuff" you call him on it, and you let the viewers know you think it is a load of "stuff", and you do not let him get away with it. I hope President Obama does the same thing in his next debate. Because if you are going to try to sell Americans a load of "stuff" you need to get used to being called down on it, and Mr. Romney is state-of-the art in load of "stufff" sales..

Ryan like Mitt is a spinner of the truth. They fail to speak truthfully about their party's intention toward education, universal healthcare (Obamacare), women, gay rights, tax cuts for the supper rich while advocating for tax increases on the middle class, military adventurism, the very poor and disenfranchised citizens who they blame for not being rich/healthy.

Did anyone notice how many times Ryan had to spit his words out of a dry mouth and over dry lips, and how often he had to sip water? Clearly he was nervous at having to spew what he knew were lies and knew Joe was ready to hammer him. Joe showed his "common man" touch and spoke with passion about his connection to the middle class. I wish President Obama had done nearly as well as Joe; if he had, this contest would be over. Mr. President, in the next two debates you had better show you want a second term and come with a combination of Joe's passion and a President's demeanor, and armed with facts.

Ryan was asked specifics at times...and interrupted or chuckled, gaffawed or talked over and the "moderator" allowed it. Disgraceful display of unprofessionalism by Biden.
